A Rundown Of Alleged Blogger Harassment By Brett Kimberlin, Neal Rauhauser, Ron Brynaert, & Nadia Naffe

A Rundown Of Alleged Blogger Harassment By Brett Kimberlin, Neal Rauhauser, Ron Brynaert, & Nadia Naffe

Many of you have probably been following the Brett Kimberlin saga. Certainly, if you read Right Wing News regularly, you would have at least seen the daily links that have been going up since this whole saga caught people’s attention.

Today is supposed to be a “A National Blogger Day Of Silence.” Ace from Ace of Spades HQ came up with the idea in order to draw more attention to this whole issue (Unfortunately, I’ve never been all that good at shutting my mouth; so no day of silence for me).

On Friday, this site will be absolutely dead-silent, which is what Brett Kimberlin and his stalker crew seeks, and what the media and our supposed Representatives in Congress would permit.

The only post on Friday will be a bold-faced Open Letter to Congress, urging them to act and not attempt to pass the buck to others.

They are our representatives; we would like some representation.

They vowed to defend and protect the Constitution; they can honor that vow now.

I will post links of Congressmen’s and Senator’s email addresses and offices and phone numbers, and urge every concerned American citizen to let them know, in no uncertain terms, that a crime in progress against the First Amendment (and people’s safety) is occurring, and we humbly request they take this seriously.

They are literally going to get someone killed. That is their endgame here.

Will the media and Congress pretend “we didn’t know” when this happens?

What’s going on is nothing less than an organized campaign to silence conservative bloggers. The tactics range from annoying to illegal and they allegedly include harassment, posting people’s home addresses, going after family members of bloggers, smear campaigns, calling people’s places of employment, nuisance lawsuits, and SWATTing.

The problem is that you may suspect that a certain person is running a Twitter account or a website, but you can’t prove it unless he admits it or law enforcement is willing to look into it. Most of the time, law enforcement officers don’t want to look into it because like most people, they don’t understand it very well. Furthermore, the strategy that seems to be in place here is that the bad guys harass people non-stop, deny that they’re doing it, and then claim that they’re actually the ones being victimized. So, to someone who’s not well versed in what’s going on, it sounds like a bunch of he said-she said between Internet nerds who are arguing about who’s being mean to whom.

Only when you start to look at it in a larger context does it start to make more sense. In order to help with that, here are just SOME of the allegations that are being made against Brett Kimberlin, Neal Rauhauser, Ron Brynaert, & Nadia Naffe. Some of them are provable. Some can’t be proven unless the Department of Justice or FBI decides to get involved. (Incidentally, I’d like to see them involved. Towards that end, I’ve been reaching out to congressional staffs and asking them to try to get their bosses to write a letter asking either the DOJ or FBI to investigate the suppression of speech that appears to be going on. Although I haven’t had any luck yet, both U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga and Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) have written the DOJ asking it to investigate SWATTing, which is no small matter. People have gone to jail for SWATTing).

* Speedway bomber Brett Kimberlin called the employer of Stacy McCain’s wife. It was clear from the call that Kimberlin knew where Stacy lived. Stacy McCain and his family left his home after that and haven’t returned.

* Stacy McCain has said he believes the “Breitbart Unmasked” website is run by Brett Kimberlin. I’m not linking the site, but it has posted a picture of Ali Akbar’s mother’s house along with an address.

* According to Aaron Worthing, he and his wife lost their jobs because their boss was afraid of (Brett) Kimberlin. Worthing also claims Kimberlin tried to frame him for second degree assault.

* Brett Kimberlin accused Breitbart blogger Mandy Nagy of being part of a conspiracy to kill him.

* Brett Kimberlin sued liberal blogger Seth Allen for harassment.

* Brett Kimberlin filed a State Bar complaint against Patrick Frey.

* “OccupyforAccountability.org, a site related to (Brett) Kimberlin, published (Patrick Frey’s) home address, as well as a Google street view and Google aerial view of (his) home.”

* (Ron) Brynaert and (Brett) Kimberlin have both filed complaints against (Patrick Frey) with (his) office.

* “(Brett) Kimberlin filed a frivolous State Bar complaint against (Frey), and has now filed a State Bar complaint against Aaron Walker.”

* (Patrick Frey) was told (Brett) Kimberlin filed frivolous claims of stalking against (him) with an anti-stalking unit in (his) office. (Frey) was told (Brett) Kimberlin filed frivolous criminal charges against (him) with the California Attorney General. (Neal) Rauhauser encouraged Daily Kos readers to file complaints against (Frey) with the California Attorney General.”

* Neal Rauhauser led an organized harassment campaign on Twitter where things like you have “sexy, f***able children” were said to Tea Party activists.

* Neal Rauhauser asked for someone to get a picture of Patrick Frey’s wife.

* “(Neal) Rauhauser is a fan of abusive litigation for purposes of political harassment.”

* Mike Stack from The Crying Wolfe was SWATTed.

On June 23rd, 2011, the Readington Police Department received a phone call: from an unknown source, indicating that they were Mike Stack, and that they had just shot their wife in the head a couple of hours ago.

“A police report of the incident describes the events, indicating that Stack had to be pulled from his home, handcuffed, and the area assessed before they could even talk.

While this incident alone is terrifying for those involved, there has been little mention of what exactly preceded the Stack arrest. : Other calls had been made – from addresses that Stack no longer resided.

Stack explains one such call, “… : the call was made to the police department of the town where I used to live, and the police were sent to my FORMER address.”

Indeed, there is a separate police report for Stack’s previous address, where the residents who had no idea what was going on were pulled from their homes in what had to be a harrowing experience.

Stack also told us that,: “”The police, in their hurry to control the situation, quickly accosted the innocent residents, handcuffing them on the ground…”

But it wasn’t just Stack himself and this innocent couple who were terrorized that night. : Police also responded to Stack’s parents house, questioning them about the alleged shooting.”

* Erick Erickson was SWATTed,

Last week we spent a lot of time writing about Brett Kimberlin and the incident involving blogger Patterico where someone spoofed his phone number and told 911 he had shot his wife.

Tonight, my family was sitting around the kitchen table eating dinner when sheriffs deputies pulled up in the driveway.

Someone called 911 from my address claiming there had been an accidental shooting.

It wasn’t nearly the trauma that Patterico suffered, but I guess the Erickson household is on somebody’s radar.

Luckily it was two sheriffs deputies who knew me and I had already, last week, advised the Sheriff’s Department to be on the look out for something like this.

* Patrick Frey from Patterico’s Pontifications has also been SWATTed.

At 12:35 a.m. on July 1, 2011, sheriff’s deputies pounded on my front door and rang my doorbell. They shouted for me to open the door and come out with my hands up.

When I opened the door, deputies pointed guns at me and ordered me to put my hands in the air. I had a cell phone in my hand. Fortunately, they did not mistake it for a gun.

They ordered me to turn around and put my hands behind my back. They handcuffed me. They shouted questions at me: IS THERE ANYONE ELSE IN THE HOUSE? and WHERE ARE THEY? and ARE THEY ALIVE?

I told them: Yes, my wife and my children are in the house. They’re upstairs in their bedrooms, sleeping. Of course they’re alive.

Deputies led me down the street to a patrol car parked about 2-3 houses away. At least one neighbor was watching out of her window as I was placed, handcuffed, in the back of the patrol car. I saw numerous patrol cars on my quiet street. There was a police helicopter flying overhead, shining a spotlight down on us as I walked towards the patrol car. Several neighbors later told us the helicopter woke them up. I saw a fire engine and an ambulance. A neighbor later told me they had a HazMat vehicle out on the street as well.

Meanwhile, police rushed into my home. They woke up my wife, led her downstairs and to the front porch, frisked her, and asked her where the children were. Then police ordered her to stand on the front porch with her hands against the wall while they entered my children’s bedrooms to make sure they were alive.

The call that sent deputies to my home was a hoax. Someone had pretended to be me. They called the police to say I had shot my wife. The sheriff’s deputies who arrived at my front door believed they were about to confront an armed man who had just shot his wife. I don’t blame the police for any of their actions. But I blame the person who made the call.

Because I could have been killed.

Patterico believes Ron Brynaert is responsible for the SWATTing.

* Ron Brynaert claimed witnesses against Brett Kimberlin had been hypnotized.

* (Ron) Brynaert contacted a man named Ken Ashford in an attempt to learn Aaron Walker’s real name, and threatened to email every member of Ashford’s firm claiming Ashford had harassed him. Brynaert later contacted the Human Resources Department at Ashford’s firm to complain about him.

* “(Ron) Brynaert has recently accused Aaron Walker of “extortion” for sending Brynaert a settlement demand letter in Walker’s lawsuit against Brynaert.”

* Nadia Naffe accessed James O’Keefe’s email and made some extremely wild and flimsy sounding allegations against him that didn’t hold up to scrutiny in court.

Nadia Naffe is a young conservative activist who once worked with O’Keefe, and is now publicly accusing him of a scheme to assault her sexually. A judge previously dismissed her harassment claim against O’Keefe for insufficient evidence, and even sources that would normally report any allegation against O’Keefe with unmitigated glee are treating her with suspicion…

Note that the “scheme to assault her sexually” didn’t involve actually touching Naffe, asking her for sex, doing anything “sexual” or genuinely threatening at all. Going by her own words, it seemed to basically just be a charge whipped up out of thin air based on what appeared to be pretty much nothing of consequence.

* “Nadia Naffe has now filed a civil claim against (Patrick Frey) and (his) boss Steve Cooley.

* Nadia Naffe was threatening to file a bar complaint against Patrick Frey’s wife, although I don’t know if she followed through or not.

There are still a lot of questions about these allegations that are impossible to answer without information that only law enforcement can gather. For example, where is the money for these lawsuits coming from?

“Speedway Bomber” Brett Kimberlin (see mugshot above) is a director and founder of the Justice Through Music Project, a seven year old Bethesda, Maryland-based 501c3 nonprofit entity.

…JTMP has received at least $70,000 in grants from the far-left Tides Foundation since 2006. The 2006 grant in the amount of $60,000 was for general operations which means JTMP could use the funds without restriction. The 2008 grant of $10,000 was also for general operations.

Another noteworthy donor is singer and liberal activist Barbra Streisand who has given JTMP at least $10,000 through her Barbra Streisand Foundation since 2006 ($5,000 in 2006 for general operations and $5,000 in 2008 for general operations).

Yet another is Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Sen. John Kerry (D-Massachusetts). Mrs. Kerry is CEO of the Heinz Family Foundation which has given JTMP at least $20,000 since 2006 (the grant was earmarked for general operations).

….Do the people at the Tides Foundation, Barbra Streisand Foundation, and Heinz Family Foundation know that they have given money to an organization run by a litigious, violent, radical felon who appears to delight in intimidating people whose views he disagrees with?

Campaign finance rules are a beast. So, if any of that money was used for these purposes, it could be an issue. Is there some sort of conspiracy to harass, threaten, and intimidate people? Did anyone commit perjury?

Last but not least, this is a First Amendment issue that should not only concern conservatives, but members of Congress, and even liberals in the media. As far as I can tell, most liberal members of the media seem to be perfectly fine with this sort of behavior. If they have a problem with it, they certainly seem to be keeping it to themselves. That’s actually rather foolish because if say, today, someone posted a picture of Ezra Klein’s mother’s house and her address on a website, I would condemn it. If people filed frivolous lawsuits against E.J. Dionne, I wouldn’t approve of it either. But at a certain point, if this goes on long enough, it’s just going to become the “new normal.” If conservatives have to put up with this long-term, you can be sure that liberals will have to deal with it, too. Everybody would be better off if it doesn’t go down that road.

PS #1: It’s funny that conservative blogs are important enough to be harassed by the Left, but for the most part, not important enough to get any funding from the people with deep pockets on the Right.

PS #2: Thanks to the ACLJ, Ron Coleman, and Eugene Volokh among others for stepping up to help out bloggers in need on the legal side of this fight.

PS #3: You can donate to help some of the people who’ve been impacted here.

Update #1: I’ve learned from the The Mental Recession that Mike Stack from The Crying Wolfe was also SWATTED. I’ve added those details above.
