Woman Found Guilty of Killing Autistic Stepdaughter By Duct-Taping Her Mouth And Tying Her to Wooden Board
Misty Stoddard has been found guilty of murdering her 11-year-old stepdaughter, Melissa, by duct-taping her mouth shut and tying her to a wooden board that Stoddard used for S&M games.
It took the jury only two and a half hours to convict Stoddard.
Melissa died of suffocation in December 2012 after being tied to a wooden plank with her mouth duct-taped shut…the court was told Melissa’s body was covered in injuries at the time of her death.
She had moved in with her father and his second wife – Misty – just five months earlier to escape her mothers abusive household in North Carolina.
The details of this little girl’s short life are horrific. I’m glad Stoddard was convicted, but hope this case will help others recognize the signs of child abuse before it’s too late.
