Thumbs Up To Torture? How About Thumbs Up To A Court Martial?

The US soldiers who did this to Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison are disgraces to the uniform…

“The photos (JDH: only some of which are shown above) showed U.S. troops smiling, posing, laughing or giving the thumbs-up sign as naked, male Iraqi prisoners were stacked in a pyramid or positioned to simulate sex acts with one another.”

Not only should the 6 soldiers responsible for this be court martialed, they deserve to spend a few years thinking it over in a military prison. I don’t care what kind of training they received and it doesn’t matter what sort of scumbags the people they tortured were, members of the US military DO NOT treat prisoners that way.

Furthermore, it’s especially galling that these pieces of human garbage would treat Iraqis like this, given that one of the reasons Saddam was so reviled by his people was the torture his men inflicted on them. But at least we punish our troops who act that way, Saddam would have probably given them a raise.

In any case, we need to make absolutely sure this isn’t happening anywhere else in Iraq and then we need to take steps to insure it doesn’t happen again. What we’re doing in Iraq and the deserved honor heaped upon the members of military is too important to be risked by some bunch of immature yahoos who get off on taking pictures of themselves humiliating prisoners.
