The Public School Official Of The Day Who Should Be Fired Or Alternately, Reason #11,456 Why We Need School Vouchers

Out — bleeping — Rageous!

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. — On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American Flag.

Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.

The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.

…The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.

Maybe it’s just me, but if you’re trying to pick, “which flags should be permissible,” it’s a no-brainer that the American flag is allowed — after all, we’re in America.

I’m not sure who’s responsible for this insane decision, whether it’s the superintendent or someone else, but any American school where an American flag isn’t welcome is a school that needs some major personnel changes at the top. Whoever is responsible for this decision should be out of a job tomorrow.

Update #1: From an email I just received,

“Wanted to toss out a little more information to you concerning the Sampson County School banning the american flag

From what has come out, is that gangs have somehow being wearing flags as a way to show off what gangs they belong to (I am going to take a shot here, I think it my be the mexican flag, as the gang MS13 is growing).

Anyway, the school board passed the resolution to ban all flags because of this (can’t go addressing this gang issue, can we?)

Now that the school board’s decision has ‘hit the fan’, they announced today that all principals are holding the ban in place until the school board reverses THEIR decision (and thereby removing the blame from themselves).

I would like my email to be anonymous, as my wife is a county school employee, and I don’t want any backlash at her….”
