The Cops Were Right To Arrest This Six Year Old

As per usual, whether they’re tasering a granny or hauling a 6 year old off to jail, if you’re breaking the law, I’m siding with the cops.

“A kindergartener was handcuffed and taken to the Highlands County Jail after acting up in school.

Desre’e Watson’s mom says she couldn’t believe it when she got the call that her 6-year-old daughter was arrested and jailed on felony charges.

Police say the girl became violent. They say she threw chairs and hit a teacher. But her mom says she’s never seen that kind of behavior and believes something must have brought it on.

“I was upset simply fact they handcuffed her and took her to jail, but I just want to find out what really went on,” Lateshia Wilson said.

The 6-year-old faces three charges: disruption of a school function, battery on school employees and resisting arrest. The State Attorney’s Office will now decide whether to prosecute or drop the charges.”

So let’s say you’re a cop in this situation, what do you do? You’ve been called to a school because apparently, the teachers can’t handle a child. The kid is behaving in an extremely violent fashion and if something isn’t done with her, she could seriously injure her teacher or her fellow students. What if, as a cop, you just leave without arresting her and she throws a chair at a fellow student and busts her head open? Who’s going to get blamed then? So yes, the police made the right decision to take her to jail given the situation.

As for the school, should they have called the cops on this kid? My gut instinct is no, but it’s debatable since we don’t know the situation here. Have they had problems with this kid before? Has the mother been previously uncooperative? Do they spank kids at this school? The proper way to handle this would seem to be to send the kid to the principal to get walloped with a nice big paddle until she sees the error of her ways. Why that wasn’t done is impossible to say at this point.

In any event, the most telling thing here would seem to be that the mother isn’t criticizing her child’s horrible behavior, which may very well be an indication of where the real problem lies. Maybe it’s just me, but if I had thrown a chair at a teacher at school, I would have been more scared of the reaction from my parents than going to jail (although that would have been pretty scary, too).
