RWN’s New Design

I’ve been planning to redesign RWN for months and actually working on it for the last few weeks — well, I haven’t been working on it per se; my designer Danny Carlton has been working on it.

Typically, our design sessions went like this:

Me: This looks cool, Danny. Do this.

Danny (15 minutes later): Ok, what do you think?

Me: Ugh! I know I told you to do that, but it looks awful. Let’s do this instead!

Danny (20 minutes later): All right, how does this look?

Me: Ooooh. That’s almost it. Now, just do x, y, and z and that won’t look half bad!

Then, after only a few short weeks of those sorts of discussions, Danny had lots more grey hairs and I had a new design. By the way, let me tell you, Danny is phenomenal to work with. He’s a real scripting guru who can code just about anything in no time and he’s great on the design front, too. If you’re interested in having him work on your blog, you can get in touch with him here and I’d give him my highest recommendation.

Now, let’s talk a little bit about a few changes you may notice:

#1) All the comments for the last 7 days of posts are gone. Sorry about that, but I did warn everyone on Friday it would happen.

#2) At the bottom of each post, you may notice some changes. There is now a permalink button which will make it easier for bloggers to link to individual posts. Also, there is now an email button. So, if you like a post and want to email the link to a friend, just hit the email button and fill in their address.

#3) I’m sure some people will mention the dumping of the old RWN logo that was in the left corner. Unfortunately, after doing a lot of work on the top, we decided to dump it and go with a basic look instead because the banners looked better than all the designs we came up with featuring the old logo.

#4) The headers for the posts and the type on the page are both bigger. Hopefully, that will make it easier for everyone to read.

#5) We now have a threaded comments option so that if you want to reply to a specific person, you can do so.

Long story short, I hope everyone likes the redesign! Also, please let me know if you find any bugs.
