Just Go Go, Now Now:

Just Go Go, Now Now: George Michael is getting ripped to pieces for his newest song which depicts George Bush and Tony Blair as gay lovers and Blair as a poodle following Bush around. He had to know that was going to happen right? You’d think so, but Michael had this to say,

“I would never knowingly disrespect the feelings of a nation which has suffered so much loss, so recently,” he said in The Sun. “I am definitely not anti-American. How could I be? I have been in love with a Texan for six years.”

The thing that really chafes me about this is that Michael made millions in the US and to this day has homes here. There are so many “stars” and well known figures who have this sort of attitude. They live here and they got rich here, but they don’t like America and look down their noses at the people who made them wealthy and famous. It seems like we have some celebrity ripping on America or threatening to leave the country every few weeks. You can just go down the list; George Michael, Louis Farrakhan, Tom Cruise, Jane Fonda, Rosanne Barr, Noam Chomsky, Robert Altman, Ed Asner, Zach De La Rocha, Ted Turner, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Alec Baldwin, Danny Glover, etc, etc, etc.

Cubans who hate Cuba risk their lives crossing the ocean on almost anything that will float on the slim chance that they’ll be able to get away from Cuba. Mexicans who want opportunities elsewhere risk their lives evading border guards and crossing deserts with minimal supplies to get out of Mexico. Before the Berlin Wall came down (thank you Ronald Reagan), East Germans risked being blown up by landmines, getting mangled by attack dogs, and getting shot by guards to get out of their country.

Yet in a country like America, where there are multiple flights to Europe and Canada leaving 24 hours a day, seven days a week and we can’t get Tom Cruise or Danny Glover to buy a one way ticket on any of them. Just in case any of these people think we can’t get along without them, let me assure them that we will all somehow manage to live out our lives without seeing Vanilla Sky 2, Lethal Weapon 5, or hearing a new “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” dance mix. If these people REALLY think it’s so terrible and awful here, why don’t they hit the road like Pierre Salinger who moved to France? At least he had the guts to put his money where his mouth was…unlike the rest of these people…
