John Hawkins, Political Gunslinger For

John Hawkins, Political Gunslinger For Hire: Here is a great idea for a political commercial inspired by the bizarre ruling against the Pledge of Allegiance. I used the name Joe Smith to represent a generic Republican candidate…

(Commercial opens with the candidate saluting the flag while Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American” plays in the background.)

(Smith looks at the camera) Hello, my name is Joe Smith and I’m a candidate for the US Senate. Recently, a group of Democrat appointed judges said the “Pledge of Allegiance” is unconstitutional. Maybe that’s what Democrats like my opponent believe, but that’s not how I see it. I love America, apple pie, motherhood, and the Pledge of Allegiance. If you elect me to the Senate I’d do everything in my power to make sure that our children will grow up saying the Pledge of Allegiance whether Democratic judges like it or not. No matter what those Democrats think, I’ll always stand up for American values and the things that made us great…

(Smith then turns to face a flag and puts his hand over his heart) I pledge allegiance to the flag…

(Smith then recites the entire pledge as they cut to different scenes of kids saying the pledge, a huge American flag, an eagle flying, a US jet screaming past, firefighters standing there smiling, etc.)

Now that’s a commercial that would be almost as good as the one Reagan did back in 1984 (Real Audio required to view this, commercial courtesy of this page).

PS: Here are some other great Reagan campaign commercials: The Iranians Are Scared Of Reagan, There’s A Commie Bear In The Woods, and why should you pay for Walter Mondale’s Promises?
