Gallup Polling: Majority Of Americans Says Government Too Powerful

When you look at these kind of numbers , you start to realize how incompetent the Republican Party has to be to lose to the Democrats.

obama

According to Gallup, 54% of Americans believe the government has too much power. That’s up from 51% just last year, but down from the high of 59% in late 2010, just before the mid-term elections

Incidentally, just in case you’re wondering, about 36% of Americans say the government has “about the right amount” of power and 8% say it has too little. Among those 8% are pretty much every last Democrat in Congress and in the Obama Administration whose solution to every problem is to give the government even more power.

You’d think that the “small government party” Republicans would be perfectly poised to take advantage of numbers like that when they’re up against the party of socialized medicine, IRS abuse and that thinks some government bureaucrat should be able to decide what size of soda you’re allowed to drink.

But instead of taking advantage of our party’s long history of small government advocacy, what do we do? We embrace Medicare Part D, bailouts and a candidate who came up with the prototype for Obamacare. We don’t want to try to be the Libertarian party, but we also need to stop trying to be a “Democrat lite” party and give the people candidates that they can believe in. We have something to offer the public: freedom, human decency and small government that can survive long-term while the bloated big government vision of the liberals will soon drive our nation into bankruptcy. We don’t have to be radical or extreme, but Republican politicians do need to have enough courage to offer the American people “a choice, not an echo.” /i>
