Come on, man.

One of my favorite parts of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown this year was the “Come on, man!” segment: the talking heads would highlight something stupid (or funny) from the previous week and tag whoever was responsible with that line. “Come on, man!”

I’m thinking exactly that about some of my conservative brethren right now, because of John Hawkins’ most recent poll. Seventy-nine right-of-center bloggers (myself included) responded, and I gotta tell you, I’m… dismayed… at a few of the answers.

For example, #3:

Do you believe ACORN stole the 2008 election?

Yes: 20% (16 votes)
No: 80% (63 votes)

Twenty percent?

Come on, man.

I wrote this in November, after another poll showed even worse numbers on that question:

The problem, of course, is that this is ridiculous. ACORN stole an election that Obama won by…what was it? Seven percentage points, nationally? Nearly 9.5 million votes. He won the Electoral College 365-173, and only three Obama states — Indiana, New Hampshire, and North Carolina — were won by fewer than 100,000 votes. Had those three gone the other way, Obama still would have won 335-203.

ACORN is, I honestly believe, powerful enough to sway a few very close districts. A very close state. Maybe more. But swings of that size? No way.

Get your heads on straight, conservatives. Use the facts. Facts. We’re conservatives. Facts matter to us.

Maybe I should be happy it was only 20% – that earlier poll showed an outright majority of Republicans answering “yes.”

That should be enough to invalidate the poll, if you ask me, but still. Come on, man.

Now, on to question #6:

Should Barack Obama be impeached, or not?

Yes: 11% (9 votes)
No: 88% (69 votes)

Eleven percent. Come on, man.

You do understand, right, that Obama has to commit a crime before he can be impeached? Right? We can’t just impeach him because we disagree with him. Not even if we think he’s destroying our nation and our way of life. He has to commit a crime. He has to do something at odds with the written law, and we have to be able to prove that he did it.

So you’ve got a crime in mind, right? And proof of it. Right? You’re not just being a foam-at-the-mouth partisan?

There are two possibilities here. One, people answered “yes” just to be funny. Two…

come on, man.
