A Warning To The Left: Trying To Throw Your Political Enemies In Jail Is Dangerous Business

When George Bush came into office, there were plenty of conservatives who wanted him to go after Clinton. But Bush, being Bush, wanted to strike “a new tone.” Did he get any credit for bucking a lot of people in his party and trying to avoid partisan strife? No, not one iota.

In fact, to the contrary, Joe Biden is out there promising to do to Bush what Bush wouldn’t consider doing to Clinton,

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden said yesterday that he and running mate Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.

Biden’s comments, first reported by ABC news, attracted little notice on a day dominated by the drama surrounding his Republican counterpart, Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

But his statements represent the Democrats’ strongest vow so far this year to investigate alleged misdeeds committed during the Bush years.

“If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued,” Biden said during a campaign event in Deerfield Beach, Florida, according to ABC.

“[N]ot out of vengeance, not out of retribution,” he added, “out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president — no one is above the law.”

Joe Biden, Barack Obama and the Democrats better understand something: the idea that a former President, Vice-President, etc. can be tossed into jail — on charges that half the country thinks are politically motivated crap, without there being frightening consequences — is a pipe dream.

These little fascist dreams the Left has about locking up their political opponents for disagreeing with them are dangerous, not just figuratively, but literally — and not just to the Republicans they target, but to the country.

Look at history; situations like this have often led to violence in the street and revolutions in other nations and if you think that say, George Bush could be tossed in jail for “torturing” members of Al-Qaeda, issuing an executive order liberals don’t like, or some similar nonsense without it leading to levels of outright hatred between the Left and the Right not seen since the Civil War at best or significant amounts of violence at worst, you are kidding yourself.

That doesn’t mean Bush, Cheney, or anyone in the Administration is “above the law,” but what it does mean is that if Obama, Biden, and Company want to go after them criminally, they better come up with something capable of convincing their political opponents Bush actually deserves to go to jail, which would have to be an offense one hell of a lot better than anything the Left has produced so far.
