A Different Take On The Tortoise (Newt Gingrich) and the Hare

I’ve been saying this for a while. Newt Gingrich might be the tortoise that wins this race. He keeps creeping up in the polls. Not making a fuss, just plodding along with great conservative ideas, and a brilliant mind. The others have raced ahead, fighting each other to try and get past Mitt Romney. These candidates keep making really bad mistakes. Of course there is Mitt, who makes no mistakes. Because he is a robot. Ok, just kidding. I actually like Mitt Romney and would be fine with him being the nominee, but I totally get why others think he is a “RINO.”

At the beginning, I said I liked all of the candidates, except Newt and Ron Paul. I said Newt, because of his past personal life, and his sitting on that stupid couch with Nancy Pelosi with the liberal view of global warming. He answered the question about the commercial saying it was a mistake to do the commercial and that he didn’t convey the message he wanted to convey, which was that conservatives care about the environment, but not the radical view that many liberals have.

As soon as Newt gets to the top of the polling (IF that happens), the media will jump on his personal life. Many people aren’t even aware of his past personal life. The worst of which is that he was having an affair at the same time Clinton was being serviced by Monica Lewinsky in the White House. People tell me that that was long ago, and he has completely changed. He is now a Catholic convert, and has been happily married 11 years. He has admitted that he did “inappropriate things in his personal life.”

I think the American people are desensitized to past indiscretions. I think at this point in our country’s history, when things are so bad, they really don’t care what a candidate did in his personal life.

I can, of course, forgive Newt for his past. That is what Christianity is all about after all. But I wasn’t ready to forget, and vote for him as our nominee. But I’m starting to change my mind. He is so intelligent. He has great ideas. He would wipe the floor with Obama in a debate. So, maybe there is a good reason to re-evaluate him.
