This Week In Quotes: Dec 9 – Dec 15

Another reason Gingrich isn’t fading is Mitt Romney. Let’s face it: Mitt Romney is the Republican version of Al Gore. Even people who are predisposed to liking him can’t seem to get there. — Jed Babbin

The very problems that have roiled Europe’s economy are coming to a slow boil in the U.S. Just as European leaders must limit deficit spending, reform unfunded entitlement programs, and resolve the underlying systemic problems in their financial systems, so must the politicians in Washington. Yet the Obama administration is burning taxpayers at each end of the dollar by bailing out failed socialist policies abroad and, at the same time, forcing them into place here at home. — Jim DeMint

Why shouldn’t you touch a hot stove? There’s no complex, smart answer to that. You’ll get roughly the same answer from Stephen Hawking that you’d get from Forrest Gump: It’s hot, and it will hurt.

But say you were going to argue that you should touch a hot stove. That would have to be a very complex answer, since it defies basic logic. And some people could run with that, talking in detail about pain receptors and the brain’s reaction to stimulus, and come up with a very smart-sounding argument on why touching a hot stove is a great idea.

Others will go further and mock all those ignorant people in the flyover states for their irrational fear of hot stoves and announce, “The most enlightened thing to do is to press one’s face against a hot stove.” Those people are what we call intellectuals. — Frank Fleming

We are going to have the candidate of food stamps, the finest food stamp president in the American history in Barack Obama and we are going to have a candidate of paychecks. — Newt Gingrich

You will not see me bow to a Saudi king. — Newt Gingrich

If Gov. Romney would like to give back all the money he’s earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain, then I would be glad to then listen to him. — Newt Gingrich

If Tebow wins the Super Bowl, against all odds, it will buoy his faithful, and emboldened faithful can do insane things, like burning mosques, bashing gays and indiscriminately banishing immigrants. — Joshua Hammerman

There’s only one way this country can be saved. With a conservative. With a conservative. And it’s high damn time that so-called conservative pundits and conservative outlets and conservative websites and conservative magazines start acting their role. And I don’t just mean in their fundraising appeals how conservative they are, but I mean use their intellectual power, use substance to support a conservative. Romney is not a conservative. — Mark Levin

Conservative primary voters want a conservative — it’s really not complicated — and the Republican establishment doesn’t. It’s not complicated. They don’t like conservatives, they are scared to death of conservatives on a host of levels. They’re afraid of losing the party to conservatives, and thus the power. They also think conservatives are hated. — Rush Limbaugh

Everyone agrees the ticket ahead in America is education. Children from the bottom fifth who get a college degree have only a 16 percent chance of staying in the bottom fifth and a 19 percent chance of making it to the top fifth and getting excoriated by the most powerful man in the world. In his speech, President Obama called for a “national mission” to improve education in the same breath as he inveighed against “laying off good teachers.” Does it ever occur to him that some of the teachers might not be good? The teacher’s unions have surely done more to hamper upward mobility in America than the nation’s most loathsome collection of banksters. — Rich Lowry

National Public Radio went looking for one of these fictitious millionaire job creators. A reporter reached out to the business groups and a tax lobby in the Republican Congress hoping to interview one of these millionaires. Days ticked by with no luck. Many of our job creators are like unicorns, they’re impossible to find and don’t exist. — Harry Reid

I didn’t overpromise. And I didn’t underestimate how tough this was gonna be. I always believed that this was a long term project. That reversing a culture here in Washington, dominated by special interests, it was gonna take more than a year. It was gonna take more than two years. It was gonna take more than one term. Probably takes more than one president. — Barack Obama

“I don’t see how you can argue that the country is going to hell and then actively support an establishment moderate Republican for the nomination.” — Mark Levin
