In Defense of Tax Cuts…

Liberals love to crow that conservatives only want tax cuts to “help out the rich.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. Conservatives want tax cuts because they help everybody by allowing them to keep more of their own money. This helps the small business owners so they can afford to hire more people, thus adding more money into the economy. They help the average taxpayer who is clipping coupons to make ends meet, by easing their financial burden.

When liberals ask how any sane person can support tax cuts, they’re ignoring the obvious: We want to be able to keep the money that most of us break our backs to earn. We want to be able to start college funds for our own kids, we want to be able to save up for a down-payment on a vehicle we don’t have to pray doesn’t break down on our way to work, and we want to be able to save for our retirement, because Social Security is all but gone. Not all of us aspire to own private jets, like the liberals think we do (even though they themselves own private jets *cough cough* Al Gore *cough cough*). Some of us just don’t want the anxiety of living paycheck to paycheck, praying that there are no medical emergencies or broken appliances to pay for this month. Some of us don’t want to have to decide between putting gas in the car or paying for clothes for our ever-growing children.

This is by no means an exaggeration of the life of the average American. Instead of complaining about our situation, however, we buck up and try to keep afloat. We put in extra hours at work, we get second jobs, we make budget cuts, and we do what we can. So to all of those saying tax cuts are “unpatriotic” and that they’d happily pay more in taxes, I pose a very simple question: why don’t you? Why not send in a check to the IRS, in addition to what you already owe? Go ahead and put your money where your mouth is, and leave the rest of us alone.
