One of the things many bloggers have long believed is that weblogs are able to influence public opinion, despite not receiving massive amounts of traffic, because large numbers of influential people read blogs. In other words, blogger influence comes mostly from "the who", not the "how many". So, in order to test that hypothesis, I decided to poll more than a 100 prominent conservatives to see if they read blogs. Here are 28 people who responded (5 chose to remain anonymous)...
The key question they were asked to answer was of course: "Do you read blogs other than those associated with a publication you work or write for?" 19 out of 28 people who responded (68%), said "yes".
While that was certainly useful information, there was another important piece of information that I wanted to gather: which blogs do these conservative opinion makers actually read? In order to find that out, I asked the 18 respondents who did read weblogs to list their favorite blogs. They were allowed to make as many (or as few) selections as they liked, 6 of them decided to keep their selections anonymous, and I dropped choices that were ambiguous or that were not blogs.
