Question: Rush Limbaugh has said that conservatives are “outnumbered,” which I took to mean that the new liberal electoral coalition fashioned and mobilized by Obama now represents the majority of American opinion. First, do you think this is what Limbaugh meant? If so, do you agree? And if you agree, what’s to be done about it? — huckupchuck

It’s understandable that conservatives are frustrated by losing this election because Barack Obama is an awful human being, who has performed awfully and run an awful campaign in the midst of an awful economy and he still won.

Without question, that spells trouble for the Republican Party.

On the other hand, the GOP had its best year in half a century in 2010 which suggests the political environment isn’t nearly as bad as a lot of people seem to think. Additionally, Obama may be a disaster, but Mitt Romney was also the least electable candidate the Republican Party has run since Barry Goldwater.

So, are we outnumbered? I don’t think so, but I do think that demographically, the air is slowly, but surely leaking out of the bubble and shrinking the map of states where we can compete effectively. That means we need to move from talking about doing outreach to black and Hispanic Americans, to actually doing outreach to black and Hispanic Americans.
