5 Things I Admire About My Dog

You’d be surprised at how much there is to admire about a dog. Just to name a few things….

1) My dog is brave. Seriously. Just yesterday, we walked past 3 deer, all of which were at least quadruple his size. So what did he do? HE CHARGED. Then, after they ran, he left his calling card, if you know what I mean…just so that if they came back, they would know exactly who scared them off.

2) He’s excited about EVERYTHING. The dog loves to get up in the morning. He loves to go to bed. He loves to go outside. He loves to get treats. He loves to play with toys about as much as you’d enjoy having a make-out session with a super model. You’ve got to love that sort of zest for life especially since most human beings can get whiny because they have to wait 5 minutes to get on a ride at Disneyland

3)He’s ferociously loyal: Not only does he get protective of me if a dog, or for that matter, a small child runs up on me, he always wants to be where I am. When I go into another room, he wants to go into another room. If I sit on the couch, he’s moving to the couch. When I was laid out, sick in bed 18 hours a day with the Norwalk Virus, he was in the bed beside of me for 18 hours a day. That’s actually the biggest thing most men like about dogs: The loyalty. That’s because it’s a trait that most men admire, but seldom see from other human beings in practice.

4)He could not possibly be happier to see me: Most people don’t get excited to see you even if you’re bringing them Christmas gifts. But, the dog? It’s like it’s the single greatest moment of his entire life every time I come back after being away for an hour or two.

5)He does his job, every time: In the dog’s mind, his business consists of exactly one job: Keeping the yard free of vermin (i.e. cats, squirrels, and rabbits) — and, my friends, business is ALWAYS good. He doesn’t take days off, he doesn’t get bored with his job, he doesn’t want to take a vacation from chasing vermin — he loves what he does. How many people can say that about their jobs?
