There's plenty of room for "yes men" in the nation's capital.

Less for "yes, Ma'am."

Sen. Barbara Boxer's suggestion to a general that she'd really rather be called "senator" has raised a few hackles here.

"Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' " Boxer (D-Calif.) said this week to Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh, testifying at a hearing that she was chairing on the levees in New Orleans. "It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it."

Yes, she worked hard to get the title. So did many people who served at the please of King George. Doesn't mean they earned it. They campaigned for it, like Boxer did. She says it as if she wanted him to use the title such as a king or queen might appoint. The General earned his title through decades of working his tail off, sacrificing, having his family sacrifice. All you do, Babs, is go out on the campaign trail, raise lots of money, promise lots of people things, including things you have no intention of doing, scratch people on the back, and contribute little.

I would postulate that this is the way of think to quite a few Senators and Representatives, whether Republican or Democrat. They have forgotten who they work for, and the system now encourages that.
