John Hawkins The Democrats Are Between A Rock And A Hard Place On Impeachment

"Dennis Kucinich is on a quest of his own. He sees flying saucers and he acts like one, too."

The quote above was inspired by Dennis Kucinich's impeachment resolution and it's from Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings, who should know a thing or two about impeachment, since he was impeached himself for bribery and perjury back when he was a judge.

In any case, after UFO boy introduced his impeachment resolution, which was, intriguingly aimed at Dick Cheney, not George Bush, the GOP attempted to force a debate on the resolution, while the Democrats worked to kill it. After one vote to keep the resolution alive, the Democrats succeeded in sending it to the Judiciary Committee, where it will likely be allowed to quietly die.

This puts the Democrats in a big pickle.

The wild eyed, netroots hordes, who are eaten up with Bush Dementia Syndrome desperately want to have an impeachment fight and will be bitterly disappointed if they don't get it.

On the other hand, the more sane Democrats know that it's not only a fight they can't win, it's a fight that makes them look bad all the way around if they get into it. There is no chance that the resolution would pass, the GOP would love to bash the Democrats during the debate, the American people would be displeased that the nearly accomplishment free Democrat controlled Congress was wasting its time with this nonsense, and the netroots would be furious with Democrats who voted against the resolution.

That leaves the Dems in a lose/lose position, which, it must be said, should suit conservatives just fine.
