McCain: Immigration Issue Led to Threats

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Wednesday that the issue of illegal immigration angered people unlike no other, including the unpopular war in Iraq, and sparked unprecedented death threats against him.

Maybe I am getting a bit blase about this, but people complaining about death threats really don't impress me that much anymore.

Now, don't get me wrong: I'm not condoning death threats in any way, shape, or form. They people who make them are human garbage in my book. Moreover, I'm not saying that threats of that sort shouldn't be taken seriously. If you get a death threat and you feel threatened, report it to the police. Additionally, I'm not even saying that I don't think it's interesting to hear about death threats, especially if you get to read what the threats actually say.

However, here's an honest question: is there any well known public figure in the United States of America who isn't occasionally getting death threats? More to the point given the article, is there a single U.S. senator who hasn't received a death threat in the last year? My guess would be that there isn't.

Unfortunately, that's just the nature of the beast as you make a name for yourself in a world where people believe that they can get away with saying anything they want, anonymously, over the internet.
