The Gore-Bal Warming alarmism from some people is getting so over-the-top that it practically qualifies as a mental disorder. Just check out these predictions from an article in the Age:

"At the leading edge of climate pessimism, the prognoses were frankly apocalyptic. "Before this century is over, billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic," predicted James Lovelock, a renowned environmental scientist.

In his book The Weather Makers, Tim Flannery puts aside his essential optimism for long enough to write: "If humans pursue a business-as-usual course for the first half of this century, I believe the collapse of civilisation due to climate change becomes inevitable."

Meanwhile, back in the real world, the global temperature has gone up about a degree in a hundred years. Maybe those of us who think the sun is primarily responsible for the small increase in global temperature increase should start tossing out these nutball scenarios, too, just to keep up with the Goreites.

Here's one,

"The costs imposed on the world economy by schemes like Kyoto would cause a global depression that would cause economies across the world to ground to a halt. In rich nations like America, industries would grind to a halt while millions would starve in the dark, because electricity was too expensive to afford. In the poor regions of the world, like Africa and South America, whole continents would be depopulated as people could no longer afford to buy seeds for the crops!"

Is that a little bit of an exaggeration? Sure, but no more so than the sort of bilge Al Gore and these global warming enviro-nuts quoted above are spouting.
