John Hawkins Q&A Friday #62: What's The Signature Dish That You Cook?

Question: "Do you cook? If so, what is your signature dish?" -- huckupchuck

Answer: I do cook (ehr...some) and have a favorite dish that I make, but I think calling it a "signature" dish gives it too much credit given my limited cooking skills.

Still...my spicy pasta sauce, as I currently prepare it (This is slightly differently than the recipe I have in the Blogalicious cookbook):

Slice up half of a small onion
Slice up half of a green pepper
Toss that in a frying pan along with a pound of hamburger or turkey burger
Add a few dashes of hot sauce to the meat
Add a couple of dashes of hot BBQ sauce to the meat
Open a jar of jalapenos and pour a bit of juice directly on the meat
Fry it all up and then pour off the extra grease/juice

Then, add the following:

A dash of garlic salt
A dash of black pepper
A dash of red pepper flakes
A can of Campbell's Tomato soup
1/2 can of water
A can of mushrooms
About a dozen jalapenos

At this point let the sauce heat and simmer. Generally, the longer it simmers, the better and thicker the sauce will become. In fact, if you want it to be really good, let it cool all the way down and reheat it a couple of hours later.

Then you cook up a little Vermicelli or Angel Hair pasta and you've got a pretty good meal.
