John Hawkins Q&A Friday #59: Is It OK For A Woman To Ask A Guy Out?

Question: "John, Do you think it is too forward for a woman to ask a man out on a date? Reason why I ask is that men seem to be too afraid these days to ask me out so thought maybe I should seek the advice of one. Thanks." -- karensp9

Answer: No, I don't think it's too forward at all. But, opinions do vary. Although I think most guys would be flattered, there may be a few that will be a little turned off by it, but I wouldn't let that worry you. If you're interested in a guy and want to ask him out, I'd say go for it. The worst thing that could happen would be that he'd turn you down.

But, it's more likely that he'll do the same thing that women like to do when they're not interested in a man. He'll tell you that he's going to be busy this week-end. And then you ask about the next week-end and he's busy then, too. And if you ask again, a few days later, he'll give a really lame excuse to make absolutely sure you get the point, "Oh, I've got to do my laundry Saturday night!"

If it does get to that point, well, then tell yourself he was probably a jerk anyway and move on to your 2nd choice and repeat the process. Eventually, I'm sure it'll all work out.
