Dem. Lawmaker: Women Shouldn’t be Allowed to Carry on Campus Because They Don’t Know if They’re Going to be Raped

Republicans have a nasty habit recently of discussing rape in ludicrous terms. As a general rule, I encourage any candidate, when asked on his position on rape, to simply note that it’s bad and nothing more. Because descending into an odd monologue about rape just isn’t going to help.

You see, it’s political suicide… Well, it’s political suicide if you’re a Republican. If you’re a Democrat, all is forgiven by the adoring media.

As the Colorado House of Representatives debated several anti-Second Amendment bills this week, Colorado Democrat Joe Salazar demonstrated that the only thing he seems to dislike more than the thought of women being able to defend themselves is the thought of them being able to identify when they’re in trouble.

While discussing a bill that would prohibit the lawful concealed carrying of firearms on campuses, Salazar noted that women may not actually know when they’re about to be raped. He stated, (emphasis added)

“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody.”

While the liberal media was contented to throw around the term “A War on Women” because Republicans didn’t want to pay for birth control, the liberal media has conveniently glossed over these comments just oozing with patriarchal condescension.

Not only is Salazar looking to disarm honest and law-abiding citizens to leave at the mercy of criminals who care about neither law nor order, he’s specifically saying that women shouldn’t have the means to protect themselves because they can’t judge for themselves when they’re in danger.

Furthermore, his mentioning of call boxes, safe zones and whistles is insulting. None of these stop an attack. Call boxes and whistles can possibly alert others that someone is being attacked. A “safe zone” is just a meaningless word. Nobody is safe in a “safe zone” just because it is designated as such. The best way to deter an attacker is by spreading the message that the potential victim might be packing. And the best way to stop an attack in progress is, in my humble opinion, a .357 with hollow-points.

Salazar has apologized with the standard, “I apologize if I’ve offended anyone…” But his speech wasn’t a slip of the tongue; his speech illustrated the underlying immorality of gun control with a dash of condescension for good measure.

So where is the mainstream media? They’ve been shut-out by President Obama as he enjoys his 116th round of golf; so without the ability to report on and worship his every move, I know they have time to kill.

I suppose to the liberal media, a Republican against paying for birth control is misogyny, but a Democrat looking to simultaneously disarm, endanger and condescend to women is not news-worthy.
