MSNBC Dimwit Melissa Harris-Perry Compares the NBA to Plantation Slavery

The idiotic notion of reparations — the idea that black people should be paid money because bad things happened to their ancestors by white people who had nothing to do with said bad things — has become en vogue again with liberals. While discussing reparations and racism, MSNBC’s resident tampon-earring-wearing nutjob, Melissa Harris-Perry, actually had the gall to compare the NBA to plantation slaves.

Harris-Perry: You can’t really talk about reparations, and ignore the modern-day wealthy Americans who own teams predominantly made up of black men, and profit from their bodies and labor. Don Sterling, Mark Cuban, and the NBA when we return.

But it was the outspoken Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, who sounded a note of caution. While Cuban called Sterling’s remarks “abhorrent”, he warned that a blanket call for the NBA to kick Sterling out of the league for something he said in private was a, quote, “very, very slippery slope”. In interviews published this week by Inc. Magazine, Cuban waded even deeper into the complicated discourse on race in this country.

… All right, so let’s review the whole story. Wealthy owners? Check. Profit made from the sale of black bodies? Check. Racial angst? Check. We’re going to have more on the case for reparations after this.

To compare the atrocities of slavery to playing in the NBA — playing basketball, a child’s game, and getting paid an average salary of over $5 million a year, is not only one of the most ludicrous arguments a person could ever make, it’s also one of the most offensive. NBA players are not only millionaires, but they’re free people, merely employed by their owners and free to terminate their employment contract at any time they choose; slaves were actually owned by other people, often forced to work hard labor and long hours and endure abuse and terrible living conditions, who faced death if they dared to try and be free. Comparing the two could not be a better example of the obvious racial demagoguery peddled by Harris-Perry and her fellow hacks at MSNBC.
