I Question Any Tea Party Group That’s Against E-Verify

E-Verify is THE only way we have to prevent illegal aliens from getting jobs in this country. If the program were expanded and the government actually put some resources into it, it would make it extremely difficult for illegal aliens to get any job worth having in this country. In other words, it’s the single most important thing we can do to fight illegal immigration. Although I’m in favor of putting a fence on the border, hiring more border patrol agents, and Arizona’s immigration law, E-Verify is more important than all of those things. Why? Because if illegal aliens can’t get jobs in this country, they won’t come here in the first place. Why? Because if the illegal aliens who are already here can’t get a job, most of them will self-deport and go home.

Yet and still….

An open letter from leaders of the groups Take Back Washington, Tea Party Nation, Downsize DC, GOProud, the D.C. Tea Party and other conservative groups calls on members of Congress to reject the Legal Workforce Act, a bill sponsored by U.S. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) that would mandate the use of the electronic identification system E-Verify by all businesses nationwide.

Promoting illegal immigration in America is not a conservative position and it’s not a Tea Party position. There are, on the other hand, plenty of establishment conservatives who want to promote illegal immigration because they incorrectly think it will help the GOP with Hispanics. There are also country club, conservative corporatists who like illegal immigration because they think they can benefit from it personally while the rest of society is left to pick up the tab. But, being pro-illegal immigration is not a Tea Party position, I don’t trust any Tea Party group that opposes E-Verify, and I have no qualms about asking them publicly to let everyone know if they have any donors who’ve asked them to take that position.
