SAFE Act Registration Deadline Arrives Tomorrow

While on one side of the country a show of armed force by citizens caused tyrannical authorities to step back, on the other Big Government is tightening its choke hold on the right to bear arms so as to prevent such challenges in the future:

Come Tuesday, owners of assault weapons [sic] in New York will be faced with a choice: Register those firearms with the state or potentially face a felony charge.

It’s all part of the Orwellian SAFE Act, by which authoritarians have exploited Sandy Hook hysteria to render law-abiding New Yorkers less safe from criminals — and from their increasingly tyrannical government.

Now, New York residents aren’t allowed to purchase most semi-automatic weapons with a “military-style feature,” such as a telescoping stock or a pistol grip on long guns, and the ability to hold a detachable magazine.

Bureauthugs hardly even pretend that forbidding telescoping stocks or forcing AR-15 owners to deform their guns into hideous monstrosities by removing the pistol grip will benefit society. The clear objective is to destroy the Second Amendment by increments. With each shooting the government–media axis hypes and exploits, the restrictions draw a little tighter, like a boa constrictor tightening its grip each time its prey exhales.

Until the situation deteriorates to the point of the government making house-to-house searches, it still must rely on voluntary compliance. As the public’s respect for authority is eroded by tyrannical laws like the SAFE Act, this compliance will become more rare.

A similar power grab in Connecticut resulted in the majority of gun owners refusing to register, since registration is an obvious prelude to confiscation. Authorities don’t want us to know if the same thing happens in New York, lest the numbers inspire further resistance.

It’s not known how many assault weapons there are in New York, and the state has refused to say how many people have registered. …

Because owners of the grandfathered-in assault weapons weren’t previously required to register with the state, there aren’t any good estimates on how many are out there in New York.

Estimates range from a few hundred thousand to 2 million. Most will remain unregistered, making felons out of many otherwise law-abiding citizens — that is, making it official that the government does not represent them, but rather is their enemy.
