“America Is Not Broke … Wisconsin Is Not Broke.”

There’s not a lot to admire about Michael Moore, but there is one good thing that can be said about him: He has a tendency to say things that other liberals “think,” but don’t have the stones to say. For example

Protesters in Madison have “aroused a sleeping giant” in the national fight for workers’ rights, filmmaker Michael Moore told thousands at the Capitol Square on Saturday, as rallies opposing Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposals wrapped up their third week.

“Right now the Earth is shaking and the ground is shifting under the feet of those who are in charge,” said Moore, the Oscar-winning maker of “Bowling for Columbine,” whose documentaries also include “Fahrenheit 911” and “Capitalism: A Love Story.”

“America is not broke … Wisconsin is not broke,” Moore said. “The only thing that’s broke is the moral compass of the rulers.”

Now, is America broke? Oh, absolutely. We’ve shoving our children’s futures down a garbage disposal with both hands so we can keep living on credit and pretending it’s normal for a nation to run trillion dollar deficits, as opposed to utterly terrifying.

But, what do most liberals do? They mumble something about our spending being “unsustainable” while they fight tooth and nail to prevent any sort of significant spending cuts. In other words, their mouths say, “No, no, no” to more spending while their eyes say, “Yes, yes, yes.”

Moore, on the other hand, is being consistent. Granted, his views are consistently irreconcilable with reality, but they’re consistent. The nice thing about that consistency is that it can actually be challenged and Moore will have to defend why he believes we’re not broke despite the trillion plus dollar deficit we’ll have this year and our 14 trillion dollar debt, which is looking less and less likely by the day to ever be paid off.

PS: If you’re wondering how Michael Moore can actually believe something like that, he probably doesn’t. He’s just got millions of dollars so he can weather any storm that hits the country and if it gets too bad, then he can always just move somewhere else. So, what does he care how much damage is left in the wake of encouraging people to believe “All is well?”

PS #2: Do most liberals really believe we don’t need to cut spending? That’s doubtful. They’ve just built an entire castle of political sand on a foundation of ever expanding government and ever increasing spending. Most of them won’t admit the truth until they absolutely have no other choice because it’s that difficult for them to change a belief that’s central to their world view.
