Left Said Right’s Linking Katrina to God was Terrible But Left Linking Isaac to God is Fine

In 2005 after hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast like a sledgehammer, several folks on the right side of America’s political aisle suggested that the devastation the storm inflicted on New Orleans was somehow a punishment imposed on the city by God. Most on the right condemned the remarks. The left, of course, went apoplectic in condemnation.

But, in 2012, apparently linking the wrath of a hurricane to God was suddenly perfectly fine for Democrats and their sycophants as Isaac bore down on the Republican convention in Tampa, Florida.

As hurricane Isaac showed signs of leaving Tampa behind, the Jersey Star-Ledger proudly proclaimed[1] that no one on the left was blaming Isaac on a vengeful God. Sadly, the Star-Ledger didn’t bother to take even a cursory look around to see if any actually did. And of course several left-wingers did link the storm to God.

To name just a few who made the connection:

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm thought that God was seeking ways to “shut down the whole[2]” convention.

Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank wondered if God had “forsaken the Republican Party[3].”

Two hatemongering, left-wing actors also got in on the act. First actress Ellen Barkin hoped that all the Republicans at the convention would be killed[4] by the coming hurricane. Then Samuel L. Jackson thought God was being unfair to hit New Orleans while he “spared” the GOP[5].

TV folks also pushed the narrative. Comedy Central’s blog went for that laugh line[6]. David Letterman even thought it would be hilarious[7] to say that God is against Republicans.

The extremist, left-wing, Soros-funded blogosphere also thought blaming the hurricane on God was suddenly a great idea. The profane folks at Wankette[8] did. So did the commenters at Fire Dog Lake[9].

I guess saying that a hurricane is God’s wrath is only OK if liberals are proposing the concept.

By contrast, in 2005 in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, the left was full of indignation[10] at several well known Christian pastors — including Pat Robertson[11] and John Hagee[12] — who hinted that Katrina was somehow God’s retribution for the overly permissive, Gomorrah-like atmosphere of the City New Orleans.

The media was so galled by Pat Robertson that Dateline Hollywood even went to the length of falsifying a report[13] that Robertson said Katrina was God’s wrath for the selection of lesbian comedienne Ellen DeGeneres as a host of the Emmy Awards.

The left has been so ginned up over the claims that Katrina is God’s punishment of America that a Wikipedia page[14] was started to chronicle the claims.

So, in 2005 it was a bad, evil thing to link God to a hurricane. Yet today, now that a hurricane seemed to be spoiling the Republican’s plans, why it was just a natural idea that God was punishing Republicans.

Lefties, thy name is hypocrite.

The final question here, though, is this: Now that hurricane Isaac has skipped the GOP convention, is God showing favor to Republicans? Let’s see if these leftists weigh in on that?
