The Big-N Nutjob
by John Hawkins

In this interview with Gore Vidal, the interviewer says Vidal might be "might be America's last small-r republican." Actually, I've always thought Vidal was one of America's many big-n nutjobs and his unhinged rambling in this interview proves me right. Get ready to enjoy some of the best quotes from Gore Vidal in the latest celebrity edition of A.C.P.O.T.I....

"[The government] plays off [Americans'] relative innocence, or ignorance to be more precise. This is probably why geography has not really been taught since World War II -- to keep people in the dark as to where we are blowing things up. Because Enron wants to blow them up. Or Unocal, the great pipeline company, wants a war going some place."

So apparently the big corporations have teamed up with teacher's unions to deliberately keep kids ignorant of geography. Next thing you know they'll have those little black bars over the names of other countries on CNN.

"What it (911) was really about -- and you won't get this anywhere at the moment -- is that this is an imperial grab for energy resources."

Yes you won't get this theory anywhere, except on the pages of 4985934858934 left-wing conspiracy nuts who've been shrieking "this is about oil like the Gulf War" since we started bombing Afghanistan.

Also, I always think it's interesting when lefties like Vidal callously say things that would lead you to believe 3000 Americans getting killed isn't any sort of "big deal". It's as if they belive that there has to be some secret motivation for our attack on Afghanistan, because in their minds, 911 certainly isn't worth a war.

"The current junta in charge of our affairs, one not legally elected, but put in charge of us by the Supreme Court in the interests of the oil and gas and defense lobbies, have used first Oklahoma City and now September 11 to further erode things."

Now the Supreme Court is in on the conspiracy along with the corporations, the teacher's unions, and the defense industry. I think we're starting to drift further into "the nice men in the white coats want to show you your new rubber room" territory...

"He's (Bush) right out there reacting, bombing Afghanistan. Well, he might as well have been bombing Denmark. Denmark had nothing to do with 9/11. And neither did Afghanistan, at least the Afghanis didn't."

So the fact that Afghanistan's government aided, funded, and protected Bin Laden and al-Queda for years is irrelevant? The fact that they refused to give over Bin Laden, release the hostages they were holding, and close the terrorist training camps doesn't matter? Since they were no more responsible than Denmark I suppose Vidal thinks we should have totally let them skate. That seems to be what he's saying doesn't it?

"They were suspiciously very ready with the Patriot Act as soon as we were hit. Ready to lift habeas corpus, due process, the attorney-client privilege. They were ready. Which means they have already got their police state."

Gee, they took away habbeus corpus, due process, the attorney-client privilege and instituted a police state and no one but Gore and his buddies on the left even noticed it. I guess that means Gore will never be coming back to the US right? After all, he'd just be taken to a gulag in the middle of Alaska without a trial since he criticized the Bush administration right?

"For them to put him up as president and for the Supreme Court to make sure that he won was as insulting as when his father, George Bush, appointed Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court -- done just to taunt the liberals."

Yes Clarence Thomas was appointed for no other reason than to "taunt liberals." It couldn't be that he was well qualified judge who the left tried to destroy because he doesn't participate in the "group think" that the left demands all black people conform too.

"And we cannot even police the United States, except to steal money from the people and generally wreak havoc. The police are perceived quite often, and correctly, in most parts of the country as the enemy."

Most people get over that whole "F*** The Police" mentality about the same time they stop going to Rage Against the Machine concerts and get a job. But I guess some people never grow up.

"(Vidal on a "constitutional convention") Once we the people are assembled, as the Constitution requires, we can do anything, we can throw out the whole executive, the judiciary, the Congress. We can put in a Tibetan lama. Or turn the country into one big Scientological clearing center....

"...The liberals always say, "Oh my, if there is a constitutional convention, they will take away the Bill of Rights." But they have already done it! It is gone. Hardly any of it is left. So if they, the famous "they," would prove to be a majority of the American people and did not want a Bill of Rights, then I say, let's just get it over with. Let's just throw it out the window. If you don't want it, you won't have it."

Isn't this the same guy who was claiming Bush was taking away all of our rights and turning the country into a "police state" a little earlier? Yet, in the same interview, he seems to favor tossing the whole Constitution and Bill of Rights into the trash and starting over. That reminds me of Huey Long's famous quote, "When fascism comes to America, it will come in the guise of anti-fascism."
