As Gangs Flourish, Displaying Historical Firearms Illegal in Chicago Museums
17 May 2013
4:56 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Outside of Chicago’s museums gangs are killing each other at an alarming rate. But due to Chicago’s strict gun ban policies, inside those museums curators are not allowed to display historical firearms. In fact, in some cases the museums are not even allowed to store their collections inside the city limits.
The matter has become an issue after the family of the late Major General William Levine, one of America’s highest ranking Jewish generals, donated his belongings to Chicago’s Pritzker Military Library this year. The collection included a firearm that …

Feds Killing Off Private Bus Lines Based on Fraudulent Study
16 May 2013
12:05 am
Warner Todd Huston
The story of the coming demise of Chinatown bus lines in New York City is a tale of multiple failures in both government and the media and shows that both have a bias against entrepreneurs that kills new, start up ideas with unfair regulations, faux public advocacy, and dismal reporting.
A “Chinatown buss” was a new idea in the late 90s pioneered by Chinese immigrants in the Big Apple. These were private buses that cruised the streets looking for fares like cabs do, picking customers up at curbside, not having fixed …

Warner Todd Huston
Square payment services is one of those new payment applications that merchants can put on a smart phone and, along with the plug-in hardware, is used like a credit card swipe machine to accept payments made by their customers. This month, however, Square has changed its user policy and is now prohibiting merchants from using the service to sell anything firearm related.
The new user agreement has altered its “Your Square Account” section to add a new category for things that Square won’t allow its service to be used for.

Gov’t Obtains Phone Records of 100 Associated Press Reporters
14 May 2013
2:24 pm
Warner Todd Huston
In the newest overreach perpetrated by the Obama administration, the Associated Press has discovered that some 100 of its Washington-based reporters have had their phone records–both personal and business–secretly obtained by Eric Holder’s Justice Department.
The AP reports that the phone records were subpoenaed as a result of a DOJ investigation into who inside the government leaked information of a CIA operation that ended up in an AP story from May 7, 2012. But the AP says the requests for phone records went far, far beyond the scope of that …

NY Times: If You Think The 2nd Amendment Is There To Protect You From Government, You’re Un-American
14 May 2013
7:54 am
William Teach
Here’s Stanley Fish, writing an op-ed for the far left NY Times:
Is the N.R.A. Un-American?
The more militant members of the N.R.A. and most of its leaders may be un-American.
By “militant” I don’t mean those who wish to protect recreational shooting and hunting; nor do I mean those who, like Justice Antonin Scalia, believe that there is a constitutional right to defend one’s home and family with firearms. These are respectable positions (although I am deeply unpersuaded by the second). I mean those who read the Second Amendment as proclaiming …

DOJ Seizes AP Phone Records, POTUS Knows Nothing
14 May 2013
7:21 am
William Teach
One thing that seems to be missing is the timeline for when the records were seized and when the warrant was provided to the Associated Press. This appears to be a case of delayed notification, what the Left called “sneak and peek” back when Bush was POTUS, if a warrant was even provided. No article mentions the word “warrant”
(AP) The Justice Department secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in what the news cooperative’s top executive called a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” …

3D-Printed Gun Plans Downloaded 100,000 Times in Two Days
11 May 2013
4:45 pm
Warner Todd Huston
The 3D-printable gun craze is just beginning as the blueprint plans for the new “Liberator” plastic gun were downloaded nearly 100,000 times in just a two-day period this month.
Cody Wilson, founder of the 3D-Printed firearm company Defense Distributed, announced the creation of the first fully printable gun on May 3 and in only a few days hundreds of thousands of downloads of the plans were made from the Defcad.org website.
Despite the large number of downloads, don’t expect the country to suddenly be awash with plastic guns. Few people that downloaded …

New ‘Explosives’ License Impinges on Gun Owners that Load Own Ammo

Before the smoke had cleared after the terror attacks during the Boston Marathon last month, New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg employed Obama’s favorite axiom of never letting a good crisis go to waste by immediately proposing major changes to federal laws pertaining to loose gun powder and explosives.
Reports quickly emerged after the bombing that the terrorists had used black powder for the explosive component of their pressure cooker bombs and this news prompted Lautenberg to action.
On April 23, Lautenberg introduced S. 792, the Explosive Materials Background Check Act. Originally, the …

Hook up site AshleyMadison.com is again courting controversy after debuting a new billboard campaign south of Columbia, South Carolina, that uses a photo of ex Governor Mark Sanford to sell its tryst-arranging services.
The ad appears on Interstate 26, 25 miles below South Carolina’s state capital, Columbia, and takes up two, stacked billboards. The top billboard reads “Next time use…” next to a photo of Gov. Sanford. The one below reads “AshleyMadison.com to find your ‘running mate.’” The lower billboard also features the website’s slogan, “Life is short. Have an affair.”

Fight Brewing Between Eric Holder And Kansas Over Gun Nullification Law
5 May 2013
7:49 am
William Teach
The irony is delicious: top cop Eric Holder, who ignored US and Mexican law when agencies under his control walked high powered weapons of war (to use the Left’s terminology) across the border into Mexico, without bothering to inform the government of Mexico as to Operation Fast and Furious, but is now upset that Kansas has passed a gun law.
(Examiner) The office of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback received a letter from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Thursday, informing Brownback that his state’s recent passage of Senate Bill (S.B.) 102, …

On the heels of reports that “half” the staffers at the L.A. Times would resign if the paper was sold to conservative billionaires the Koch brothers, the Newspaper Guild–Communications Workers of America, a journalist labor union, have issued a statement declaring the pair unfit to own a newspaper.
At the end of April, reports on an in-house awards ceremony held at the Los Angeles Times revealed that half the staffers in attendance claimed that they’d instantly resign if their paper was sold to Charles and David Koch, the brothers who have …

What Is This ‘Well Regulated Militia’ Business, Anyway?

The Question:
The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, 1789: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
We talk about the “right of the people” to “bear arms” all the time. But we don’t often talk about the “well regulated militia” part that precedes it. So, what is it about? Is this militia still relevant to us today? Can we just ignore it? If unnecessary, does the …

3D-Printed Guns Can’t Be Stopped
26 Apr 2013
8:29 pm
Warner Todd Huston
According to many at the 3D Printing Conference and Expo, 3D-printed guns are inevitable despite the efforts of some 3D printer companies and politicians to try and stop it.
The expo now underway in New York revealed opposing views on the issue of printed firearms, but according to 3D gun advocate Cody Wilson, 3D-printed guns are not only already here but should be legal.
Wilson, the founder and director of Defense Distributed, scoffed at claims by other conference speakers that 3D-printed guns are still not technologically viable. “No, it’s here today,” he …

A fractured party is a losing party
19 Apr 2013

Josh Bernstein
Why is it that when Democrats govern like Socialist dictators they win, but when Republicans govern like Democrats they lose? The sad part is that both parties govern in such a similar capacity that it is hard to tell them apart these days. Both parties have an insatiable appetite for spending; and fiscal discipline in Washington is as rare as a snowstorm in Phoenix.
Neither party has shown the ability to govern the American people the way our Constitution originally intended. One could argue that we technically have not had a …

Bummer: Gun Control Bill In Peril
16 Apr 2013

William Teach
What The Politico’s John Breshanan and Jake Sherman seem to be referring to is the Manchin-Toomey background checks bill
The tough gun-control bill that President Barack Obama wants now has little, if any, chance of passing this Congress – it’s struggling in the Senate and facing outright rejection in the House.
Vice President Joe Biden worked the phones Monday to try to salvage a bipartisan bill in the Senate but has come up short. Personal appeals from parents of Newtown victims and former Rep. Gabby Giffords haven’t worked either.
And even if Senate …

Pastor Rick Warren, Gun Control, and Matthew Warren’s Suicide
14 Apr 2013

Pastor Rick Warren and his family suffered a devastating loss last week when their son, Matthew, took his own life with a pistol that he may have bought illegally from a person he contacted over the Internet. Dealing with such a loss is heartrending, of course, and the Warren family has much to endure as they deal with this terrible incident. But one thing is sure, new gun laws would not have prevented Matthew Warren’s suicide.
Warren’s son, Matthew Warren, committed suicide on April 5 with a self-inflicted gunshot. After news …

Supernanny Cass Sunstein’s ‘Friendly Paternalism’: It’s For Your Own Good, America
12 Apr 2013
4:58 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Cass Sunsetein, one of President Obama’s leading left-wing, university eggheads, has penned an interesting piece in New Republic explaining how the nanny state is really a very important and useful aspect of today’s modern Democrat scheme. It’s for your own good, don’t you know?
Launching his April 8 piece, “Why Paternalism Is Your Friend,” Sunstein evokes New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s (mostly failed, not that Sunstein says so) nanny state efforts to take away his constituents’ freedom on such things as trans fats, sodas, and guns. Sunstein points out that to …

America’s Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, Stands Alone Against Unions And Outsiders in Recall Effort
11 Apr 2013

Warner Todd Huston
Only three weeks after re-election in 2012, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was hit with a recall effort. Now, with anti-Arpaio petitions in circulation in Maricopa County, Arizona, “America’s Sheriff” is organizing his forces to oppose a recall backed by the deep pockets of the unions, millions in outside money, and a flood of non-Arizonans arriving to act as the left-winger’s ground troops. (See www.savesheriffjoe.org)
Arpaio’s team is being ramrodded by the Conservative Business League and unlike the opposition’s recall efforts, the CBL is an Arizona-based organization. The duo taking the helm of …

Two Quick Examples of U.S. Government Lies in Labels

Political fancy talk is always fascinating. By this I mean, the essential lies that government tells by re-naming something to make it sound benign or even beneficial when it is really just another anti-American, liberty-killing government initiative, or giving it a harsh label in order to destroy whatever activity that government wants destroyed. Here I have two recent examples of these.
Now, by “re-naming” things to sound better, I mean things such as the so-called “Employee Free Choice Act.” This is a law that actually takes choice away from employees and …

Barack Obama: The Best Lying Demagogue Ever to Infest the White House
7 Apr 2013

As he disgustingly used law enforcement officials as a back drop in Colorado, President Obama uttered a few lines about his un-Constitutional gun grabbing policy ideas that truly proves he’s the best lying demagogue to ever sit in the Oval Office.
Obama had a message about elected officials, who they are, and what they want to do about Obama’s anti-Second Amendment crusade. But his phrasing of the subject is particularly interesting. He turned the truth on its head, made anyone that stands for the Second Amendment into a nut case, …
