Cherna Moskowitz Awarded Honorary Doctorate by Bar-Ilan University

Bar-Ilan University (BIU) recently bestowed an honorary doctorate upon Cherna Shovers Moskowitz in recognition of her passionate support of the Jewish people, its rich legacy: and homeland.: Bar-Ilan University is the fastest-growing institution of higher education in Israel. Those pursuing their BA, MA and PhD degrees are joined by thousands more who are enrolled in certificate and enrichment programs. The Bar-Ilan family numbers 33,000 students.

The love that: Cherna Moskowitz: and her husband: Irving Moskowitz: have for the people of Israel and the Jewish nation has been demonstrated through the many good deeds they have performed.: : They were married in 1950, raised eight children and as Irving developed 13 hospitals, they started a family foundation to help the Jewish people.

At Bar-Ilan University, they established a Chair in Land of Israel Studies, have supported doctoral students and, most recently named a floor which is dedicated to conducting Security Research. With eight children, forty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, the Moskowitz family has a longstanding commitment to the people of Israel.

Their gifts to the BIU community demonstrate their commitment to Jewish continuity and education.: : In California, and throughout the world they support many social programs, and were honored by the International Red Cross for “generosity and compassion” in responding to crisis around the world. Since 1988, the: Irving Moskowitz: family foundation has generously assisted a long roster of worthy causes, mainly in Israel, which include academic and research institutions, hospitals, Hesder Yeshivot and food banks.

In tribute to her Jewish activism and philanthropy, Bar-Ilan University is proud to award Cherna Shovers Moskowitz an honorary doctorate.
