The Final Election Message From The Man Who Gave The Benediction at Obama’s Inauguration: Whites Are Going To Hell

Whatever happened to that post-racial America that so many people seemed to think that electing a guy who spent twenty years worshipping at a vile, anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-white church was going bring about? Granted it was never the most realistic idea to begin with, but at least there was an effort made to hide it. Now, the mask is starting to come off.

Two icons of the civil rights movement visited Forsyth on Saturday to campaign for the reelection of Barack Obama. Andrew Young and Rev. Dr. James Lowery spoke at St. James Baptist Church as part of a Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) tour across Georgia to encourage black voters to cast ballots for Obama.

Lowery, who turned 91 on Oct. 6, founded the SCLC along with Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1957 and has been a national leader and the recipient of many honors since that time. Numerous celebrities praised him at a celebration of his 90th birthday at Atlanta Symphony Hall last year.

Lowery gave the benediction at Obama’s inauguration as 44th U.S. president on Jan. 20, 2009.

…After complimenting Forsyth on its good looking females, Lowery said he first met Obama when he went to hear him speak for Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday in Selma, Ala.

“Most of my friends thought I was crazy; I came out early in favor of Obama,” said Lowery.

…Lowery said Obama lost Georgia by 200,000 votes in 2008 while 390,000 black folks in Georgia did not vote.

“I don’t know what kind of a n—– wouldn’t vote with a black man running,” said Lowery. “All that he did with the stimulus was genius. Nobody intelligent would risk this country with Romney.”

…Lowery said that when he was a young militant, he used to say all white folks were going to hell. Then he mellowed and just said most of them were. Now, he said, he is back to where he was.

“I’m frightened by the level of hatred and bitterness coming out in this election,” said Lowery.

Forsyth Mayor John Howard, a member of St. James who opened Saturday’s program, said he was “pretty shocked” by Lowery’s comments. He said if a speaker had made the same comments about black people, he would have gotten up and left.

He said the Bible gives set instructions on how to go to heaven and it doesn’t say anything about skin color. Hearing the comments he said he looked at the face of his pastor, the Rev. Antonio Proctor, and could tell he was real shocked too. Howard said he and Proctor talked about putting a video of the event on Forsyth Cable TV but decided after his comments that it wasn’t a good idea.

Howard said Lowery’s group initiated Saturday’s visit, calling the church and asking them to host the event.

The comment, said Howard, “caught both us off guard.”

Howard said the late long-time pastor of St. James, the Rev. Adolph Parsons, who died three years, always taught the importance of loving everybody.

“The Bible doesn’t say anything about white or black to go to heaven,” said Howard. “I have great number of black and white friends. I’ve been in the military. I make friends with everybody. I’m too old for enemies.”

First of all, it’s great to see that there are a lot of people who are willing to call Joseph Lowery on his utterly despicable comments. Lowery’s comments were those of a man of hate, not a man of God and Barack Obama should do the right thing and publicly condemn his comments — if, he disagrees, which is far from certain, given some of his own comments and his connection with Jeremiah Wright.

PS: On a side note, the same man who said all white folks were going to hell also said, “I’m frightened by the level of hatred and bitterness coming out in this election.” Science should be studying someone that deep in denial.
