I Agree With Matt Damon. We Should Raise Taxes…On Him.

Matt Damon SAYS that he wants higher taxes on people like him.

He told reporters, “I’m so disgusted… The wealthy are paying less than they paid at any time else, certainly in my lifetime, and probably in the last century. I don’t know what we were paying in the roaring ’20s; it’s criminal that so little is asked of people who are getting so much.

“I don’t mind paying more. I really don’t mind paying more taxes. I’d rather pay for taxes than cut (learning services) Reading is Fundamental or Head Start or some of these programs that are really helping kids.”

Why wouldn’t Matt Damon be disgusted by the rich? He’s a guy who got rich acting. The toughest thing he does in an average day is memorize lines while an underling who’s not allowed to look him in the eyes hands him a bowlful of M&M’s. It’s not a tough life.

I’d also note that Matt Damon’s net worth is 65 million dollars; so how does it hurt him to call for raising taxes when he’s already that rich? I can ab-so-freaking-lutely guarantee you that if Congress wanted to pass a law that said we could confiscate 50% of people’s NET WORTH, as opposed to what they make in a year, Matt Damon would be the first one to speak out against it.

It’s also rather notable that Matt Damon’s name appeared in a little noticed story about taxes that came out just last month.

“Spiderman” star Tobey Maguire has been weaved into one messy legal web.

The actor is being sued by Howard M. Ehrenberg, the trustee for Ruderrman Capital Partners, over his alleged involvement in an illegal, underground gambling ring.

The trustee is demanding that Maguire pack back a minimum of $311,000 in winnings earned participating in the unlicensed poker activity between 2006 and 2009.

…Aside from Maguire, RadarOnline reported that entertainment industry power players such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon also tried their hand in the high-stakes game, and that the illicit enterprise was still taking place in the home of a top Hollywood producer.

The Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately respond to our request for comment regarding whether or not an investigation was pending, however it seems these big names could all be in big trouble should legal proceedings escalate.

“If a bloodthirsty prosecutor wanted to go after these celebs, the law allows he or she to file charges and seek up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for each poker game played,” said California-based criminal defense attorney, David E. Wohl. “The reality is however, that there’s a greater chance of Arnold Schwarzenegger being reelected governor than Matt Damon, Ben Affleck or Toby Maguire actually doing jail time for a game of cards.”

I wonder: Did Matt Damon pay his taxes on any winnings from that high stakes poker game? For that matter, does he take all the deductions he’s entitled to take under the law or does he just leave those out, because he doesn’t “mind paying more taxes?” C’mon Matt, inquiring minds want to know!

PS: Let me just note, Head Start is an extraordinarily expensive and also utterly worthless program that has been proven to do absolutely nothing for the kids that take advantage of it. The grand damage to children’s education if HHead Start disappeared tomorrow would be zero.
