Getting Ready To Add Moderators
  23 Jun 2011     7:00 am      John Hawkins

Later this week, I’m going to be adding a crew of moderators at RWN. If you’d like to be one of them, say so in the comment section.
PS: I’m going to look back at your previous comments to see how well you play with others. If the answer is “not very,” you’re not going to be one of the moderators.

Tech Issues With RWN?
  14 Jun 2011     2:11 pm      John Hawkins

Right Wing News changed servers this week-end and that, of course, requires repointing the DNS. Some people have apparently been having issues. If you’ve been having issues with that or any other technical aspects, please let me know right here.
Update #1: RWN has been having a weird problem with its super caching. What that means is that for some people, me included, everything appeared to be going along normally. For other people, it looked like the page hadn’t been updated in days. Server moves are always a joy, if by …

Boob Theory
  14 Jun 2011     2:05 pm      Courtney Messerschmidt

“Ve are liffing in Amerika – Coca Cola – Voonderbra”
Last years “Boob Quake” – psychically predicted by the highest levels of gay free Persia’s Preacher Command – Hojatoleslam Kazim Sadeghi (Ho what?!) claimed hoochies, hotties and hoes “don’t dress appropriately” and spread the hot sticky lust “when promiscuity spreads, earthquakes increase.”
Oh snap! Say it ain’t so!
Only, it WAS so!
“The pro-scantily-clad lobby of womanity declared today Boobquake, a day to flout and disprove the cleric by baring your boobs.
“And then a 6.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in Taiwan!”
Sweet! Let’s start worshipping …

A Test: Do Women Actually Pay Attention To A Man’s Watch?
  23 May 2011     3:58 am      John Hawkins

In the age of cell phones, watches are more of a fashion accessory than anything else. Furthermore, if you actually take a look at a wide selection of watches, you’ll find that a $25 watch looks like a $50 watch looks like a $500 watch looks like a $5000 watch. So, if a watch is mainly a fashion accessory and watches look roughly the same no matter what they cost, then you have to wonder if it makes sense to spend any money on a watch. Plus, after a conversation …

Just Ask Me
  20 May 2011     8:00 pm      William Teach

So, you have some question for me, eh? OK, here we go! These ones come from Vega
-Which team benefits the most from the NFL lockout? Which team suffers the most?
Well, now, a very interesting question. There are many ways you can look at this. We could say it will be the teams with the most talent, because they will need the least practice to get going. But, then, a lot of those talented players are showboats, and love getting out and about, while the players with …

RightOnline 2011
  19 May 2011     12:01 am      John Hawkins

The fine folks from Americans for Prosperity are flying me out to the RightOnline conference next month in Minneapolis to teach. Out of appreciation and because I’ve attended the event before and had a great time, I want to run a promo for the event on RWN. Hope to see you there next month!
This summer Americans for Prosperity Foundation will host the fourth annual RightOnline conference in Minneapolis, MN on June 17-18th.
This year’s conference will feature leaders in government, new media, and grassroots mobilization such as Governor Tim Pawlenty, Congresswoman …

I Now Know Why You Don’t Typically See Baby Possums On Cute Overload
  14 May 2011     6:53 pm      John Hawkins

So, I had taken my dog outside and he’s EXCITED. I mean, excited even for him — and this is a dog who gets so happy he almost passes out when he sees me in the morning or gets to go for a walk.
I figured he caught wind of a cat.
Close, but not quite.
Actually, it was a baby Possum. Immediately, he ran up on it and sadly, baby Possums appear ponderously slow, because it looked like it was casually trying to lope away from a ravenous Jack Russell mix …

RWN Redesign In Process
  23 Mar 2011     7:11 pm      John Hawkins

As you may have noticed, RWN has a new look. As you also may have noticed, the new look is hosed in a few places. There have been a few unexpected difficulties that are hurting the design roll-out. I am going to be spending much of the rest of the night working to get those fixed up and tomorrow, with the help of my designers, I hope to have everything running at full speed. So, if something looks off, feel free to note it in the comments. It might be …

CPAC
  9 Feb 2011     12:01 am      John Hawkins

CPAC runs Thurs-Saturday of this week and I will be attending. Although I will be posting from CPAC, the posts may not be as regular as usual. Since there will be other RWN bloggers there, that will probably be true of them as well. That’s the nature of the beast.
PS: I will, however, of course have a massive CPAC wrap-up/pic post on Monday — and it will be awe inspiring, as per usual.

Right Wing News Fundraiser: It’s The Final Day And…: (Updated)
  28 Jan 2011     4:52 am      John Hawkins

As regular readers of RWN know, Right Wing News is doing a fundraiser. Here’s a breakdown of the basics,
I’ve decided that I need to up the revenue that RWN is bringing in. The simplest and easiest way to do that would be to start running more obtrusive advertising. I’m referring to auto-play video ads, pop-unders, and interstitial ads. These ads are becoming more prevalent on the web — including on political websites — because they pay a really good rate per view. I have talked to firms that sell …

The Right Wing News Fundraiser: Good News And Bad News
  25 Jan 2011     3:15 am      John Hawkins

Yesterday, I talked about the fundraiser RWN is doing this week:

Right Wing News Fundraiser
  24 Jan 2011     7:42 am      John Hawkins

Right Wing News has been around for a full decade now and during that time, I’ve raised money for politicians, for charities, and for people who I thought needed it. RWN led the first major blogger fundraising drive for Republican candidates back in 2006. We raised close to $300,000. In 2008, RWN was on the board of Slatecard which raised over $650,000 for Republican candidates. Toss in the amount raised for charities and individual candidates and I’m pretty sure that RWN has played at least some small part in fundraising …

Sickness Part 3: It Continues
  5 Jan 2011     12:47 pm      John Hawkins

So, after talking to a doctor yesterday, the verdict is stomach flu. He did give me some medicine to help alleviate some of the symptoms, but he said it would probably be 2-3 more days before I recover. In the interim, I am so knocked out that I’m sleeping about 5 out of every 6 hours. So, at best, things should start getting back to normal on Friday, although it could just as easily be Monday.

Still Sick
  4 Jan 2011     12:01 am      John Hawkins

It’s pretty rare for me to need two days in a row off because of sickness, but regrettably, I do. I am slightly improved from yesterday, but I still don’t feel well, have minimal energy, and can’t concentrate. Naturally, that makes it difficult for me to write. If I don’t get significantly better by today, I’m going to the doctor. Feeling lousy for this long and spending 5/6 of my day in bed just isn’t normal. On the upside, assuming I’m better, you’ll be treated to the 40 most obnoxious …

George Soros: A missing moral compass
  17 Nov 2010     6:23 pm      Bookworm

In my “real” facebook world, there’s been a lot of outrage over Glenn Beck’s excavation of George Soros’ adolescent work for the Nazis, work Soros (a Jew) engaged in to stay alive while passing as a Christian in Nazi occupied territory. Liberals howl “How dare Beck judge Soros? ” But is that what Beck is doing or is Beck judging the person that helpless boy grew up to become? I don’t know, because I don’t watch Beck, but here is the argument I would make if I had …
