What Fiscal Cliff? VP Biden, Gov’t Workers Getting Raises
30 Dec 2012
4:53 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Imagine you are working for a company that is going bankrupt, but everyone you work with and your bosses are getting pay raises. Seem absurd? Not if you work for the failing federal government because President Obama has happily decreed that Vice President Biden, members of Congress and most federal workers are getting raises for 2013.
As the U.S. government is losing its luster on the bond market and as the fiscal cliff looms, President Obama issued an executive order to give everyone raises.
Obama has generously bestowed a $6,379 per year …

Sen. Schumer Says Long Dead Assault Weapons Ban Responsible for Current Falling Crime Stats
28 Dec 2012
4:45 pm
Warner Todd Huston
On Sunday Senator Chuck Schumer tried to pass off the 1994 assault weapons ban bill that was canceled eight years ago as the reason that today’s violent crime rates have been down.
In a discussion about gun control with Senator Chuck Schumer (D, NY) and Lindsey Graham (R, SC), David Gregory of NBC’s Meet The Press correctly pointed out that past gun banning laws like the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban didn’t work and that is a challenge to Schumer’s anti-gun position. Schumer answered to Gregory with a nice twist of logic …

Wind Energy Subsidies Must Die
26 Dec 2012
11:18 am
Dave Blount
By watching the “mainstream” media, you could get the impression that the crucial issue of the day is whether the government will be able to raise taxes high enough fast enough to avoid disaster. In reality, Big Government already has too much money if it has even a penny to waste on moonbat insanity like wind energy subsidies:
Since 1992, the federal government has expended almost $24 billion to encourage investment in wind power through direct spending, tax breaks, R&D, loan guarantees and other federal support of electric power. The Joint …

Government Green Energy Leech Calls for Death of Critics
13 Dec 2012
2:00 pm
Dave Blount
Be careful when relaying information relating to the massive sums of money our rulers are flushing down green energy boondoggles — unless you want sociopathic moonbats like Kerrilee Ann Crosby calling for your death:
A woman angered by a Watchdog investigation into the government lab where she works retaliated by threatening mass murder against this news organization in several Twitter posts.
“Have you ever felt like going on a murderous rampage? Start at @WatchdogCO ‘s offices. They perpetuate lies like this,” Kerrilee Ann Crosby tweeted last month while working at …

Weekly Standard’s Kristol Throws Up Hands, GOP Should ‘Acquiesce’ to Obama
12 Dec 2012

-By Warner Todd Huston
William Kristol, Editor of the Weekly Standard, seems to have decided that retreat is the way forward for the Republican Party. In a new editorial that approaches a meltdown, the Fox commentator and consummate Washington insider essentially advised the GOP to just throw in the towel on these fiscal cliff talks and more or less accept Obama’s terms.
In the piece, a dour Kristol detailed all the shock and depression that Republican insiders feel after losing an election they’d all thought was in the bag for team Romney …

Feds Baked Fraud Right Into the Pigford Pie
12 Dec 2012
2:52 pm
Dave Blount
Fraud was not a bug but a deliberate feature of the staggeringly expensive looting spree known as the Pigford Pigout, by which any black person could collect $50,000 of reparations by claiming to be a farmer who was discriminated against by the federal government. On Document Dump Friday, the feds released a report entitled “Civil Rights: Additional Actions in Pigford II Claims Process Could Reduce Risk of Improper Determinations” (PDF). Dig deep enough through the bureaucratic B.S. and you will find this nugget of sincerity:
[…blah blah blah] by the terms …

“Stressed” Turtles Airlifted to Florida for Vacation
11 Dec 2012
3:42 pm
Dave Blount
Good thing Obama’s media has diverted everyone’s attention from the government spending crisis to the issue of whether “the rich” should be looted even more aggressively. Otherwise the feds might have to cut back on crucial programs like this one:
More than two dozen sea turtles described by the Associated Press as “stressed” by cold ocean waters have been airlifted from New England to balmy Florida.
The Coast Guard flew the turtles to Orlando on Friday, but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (the federal agency that apparently oversees sea-turtle protection) reportedly …

Leanna Broderick: The Face of Britain’s Decline
11 Dec 2012
2:07 pm
Dave Blount
Even as once great Britain’s eyes go dim, life is still good for the freeloaders who are bleeding it to death:
While many families are worrying about how to afford Christmas this year, one jobless single mother has revealed she receives so much in benefits she has £2,000 to spend on designer gifts, clothes and partying.
Mother-of-two Leanna Broderick plans to buy 20 presents for each of her children, including Burberry and Ralph Lauren outfits, iPads and gold jewellery.
The 20-year-old, who has never worked, claims nearly £15,500 a year in state handouts.

AP’s False Claim That ‘Some’ Democrats Open to Entitlement Cuts
4 Dec 2012
4:05 pm
Warner Todd Huston
In a November 28 article, the Associated Press tried to give cover to Democrats by insisting that they are somehow divided over cuts in entitlements to help solve the “fiscal cliff” problem. But the truth is, Democrats are united against these cuts, not divided.
In its piece headlined, “It’s Not Just Taxes: Benefit Cuts Divide Democrats,” the AP attempted to demonstrate a “division” that doesn’t exist by citing two Democrats that meekly offered to consider cuts to entitlements.
It’s not just about taxes. There’s another big obstacle to overcome as Congress and …

On Cutting A Deal To Avert The Fiscal Cliff
2 Dec 2012
12:02 am
John Hawkins
Here’s the reality of the situation.
– The economy is in bad shape and it’s conceivable that going over the fiscal cliff could push it into recession, although nobody really knows one way or the other.
– Going over the fiscal cliff is probably the best hope for deficit reduction we’ll have in the next four years.
– We’re being told that Republicans will be blamed if we go over the fiscal cliff and that may be so. However, the Republicans always seem to be blamed, so what else is new?
– Publicly at …

Sen. Orrin Hatch: Obama Fiscal Proposal ‘Classic Bait and Switch’
1 Dec 2012
4:12 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Senator Orrin Hatch (R, Utah) delivered the GOP weekly address and it was a damn good one.
He pulled no punches and laid it out straight that Obama lied when he ran for re-election and perpetrated a “classic bait and switch” maneuver. What ever you think of Mr. Hatch or the GOP, he spoke truth in this one.
Transcript:
“Hi. I’m Senator Orrin Hatch from the great state of Utah.
“The holiday season is upon us: a time when families come together to celebrate and reflect on another year gone by—and another …

After We Get Rid Of The Dollar Bill, We Should Move On To The Penny And Nickel Next
30 Nov 2012
9:22 am
John Hawkins
Replacing dollar bills with dollar coins is an obnoxious idea, if only because coins don’t work well in most wallets. Yet, this would seem to be a strong argument in favor of the practice.
Congressional auditors say doing away with dollar bills entirely and replacing them with dollar coins could save taxpayers some $4.4 billion over the next 30 years.
When you’re broke, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to waste 4.4 billion dollars on a minor preference. However, if you really want to see some news about our coins that …

College Professors Lose Hours Because of Obamacare
27 Nov 2012
3:01 pm
Warner Todd Huston
One of my favorite stories this week is the college professors at Pennsylvania’s Community College of Allegheny who’ve had their hours cut because of the costly requirements of Obamacare.
One of Obamacare’s changes to general business practices is to make people who work 30 hours or more a “full time worker.” For generations that magic number was 40 hours a week. But now that Obamacare is forcing this change to what is considered a full-timer, businesses across the country are forced to change policies and cut the hours of employees to …

Health Care Reform = More Money, Bigger Hospitals, and Less Private Practices
20 Nov 2012
12:26 pm
Matt Vespa
For a while, conservatives have known that Obamacare would be a dose of bad medicine. However, given the axiom that bog government helps big business, the same could be true with the medical industry. Tim Carney at The Washington Examiner aptly pointed out today, from Bloomberg, Obamacare favors big hospitals, and smashes small practices.
In his column, Carney wrote that “Bloomberg report[ed] today on how Medicare payment rules have led to hospital consolidation, with small practices selling out to big hospitals.” Additionally, Carney cited the point about consolidation:
Simon Gisby, a principal in the life …

Today’s Stealth Tax Story
18 Nov 2012
1:05 pm
Warner Todd Huston
One of the many drags about owning a home in the suburbs rears its ugly head around this time a year. Raking leaves is awful drudgery, everyone knows, and here in the middle of November, I’ve already put it off for several weeks longer than I should have. But as I was raking I realized that I was living a stealth tax imposed on me by my local government.
You know how it goes, I’m sure. Fall arrives and those millions, no billions, of those darn leaves fall from their proper …

Tax Paid Prof Says Commie Stalin Never Committed Any Crimes
14 Nov 2012

Warner Todd Huston
Here is a heartwarming tale of your education tax dollars at work. At a recent school event at a New Jersey public university, a tax paid professor said that Joseph Stalin, the murderous head of the Soviet Union during the WWII era, never committed any crimes against humanity. “I have yet to find one crime that Stalin committed,” the professor yelled at students.
The comments were uttered by Grover Furr, a professor in Medieval English at Montclair State University, a public university in New Jersey. The event at which Furr appeared …

Foodstamps Surge to All Time High, Biggest One Month Growth Ever Recorded
13 Nov 2012
2:03 pm
Warner Todd Huston
The Obama administration has finally released its report on the number of Americans on foodstamps. This report was released nine days past its traditional release date and just coincidentally days after the election. Shockingly, those numbers show that Americans on foodstamps is at an all time high. Worse the report shows the highest one month jump ever.
You may recall that just before the election, the Obama administration announced that Hurricane Sandy was going to delay the release of October’s jobless numbers. Many watchers of politics were suspicious about the possible …

Newsweek: Hey, Whities, You’re Old, You’re White And You’re Finished
10 Nov 2012
4:31 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Your days are done, white man. In its November issue, Newsweek and writer David Frum want you GOP whities to know that you’re old, you’re white, and you’re finished.
Not only does Newsweek want white Republicans to know their salad days are over (and that they are racist, no doubt), but the aging magazine has done so with a cover illustration that portrays Obama wearing the uniform tunic of a Revolutionary War soldier — maybe even with allusions to founding father and first general of the armies George Washington.
Nov. 2012 Newsweek …

CNBC: We’re Probably Headed to Another Recession… NOW They Tell Us?
9 Nov 2012

Warner Todd Huston
Two days after the election, CNBC published a dour report on the economy. Shockingly, CNBC is predicting that the U.S. economy is likely headed for another recession.
CNBC so helpfully tells us that, now that the election is behind us, the light in our economic tunnel could be a “freight train.” Gee, it sure would have been nice to know that before the election, wouldn’t it?
Slowing corporate profits, the remnants of Superstorm Sandy and the ramifications of the “fiscal cliff” in Washington are expected to result in at least two …

After The Elections: Where Is America Now? It’s Dead, That’s Where
7 Nov 2012
6:21 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Due to the re-election of Barack Hussein Obama, the United States is officially a failed experiment. In fact, his election in the first place in 2008 signaled the end.
Because so few of you people out there know anything about history any more, I’ll have to explain that opening line above. You see, the founders considered the United States an experiment in self-government. As Ben Franklin is said to have remarked upon leaving the first Constitutional Convention, the founders had given us a republic “if you can keep it.”
By that, …
