Simulus Funded Nevada Geothermal Close To Going Bust
  5 Jul 2012     8:03 am      William Teach

Back on June 26th, Obama cheerleading The Politico was rating “green” companies that received DOE loans, and determined that Nevada Geothermal Power (NGP) as a “mixed bag”
Nevada Geothermal: The company’s Blue Mountain project in northern Nevada received a partial loan guarantee for $98.5 million in 2010. The project is already generating power, but production levels have declined because the temperature of the rock formation the company tapped into has fallen unexpectedly. In SEC filings, Nevada Geothermal says it is working to resolve the problem. A pump failure in March was …

People Pretty Upset Over Unintentional Earth Hours
  3 Jul 2012     7:33 am      William Teach

Last November, a United Nations report told us just how evil air conditioning and refrigerators are. And a couple weeks ago the NY Times had a hissy fit over A/C, but, of course, wants those in developing nations to bear the burden of having their A/C restricted. Warmist policies would lead to rolling brownouts and blackouts. What happens when their beliefs are forcibly implemented by Mother Nature? Extended Earth Hour, and people do not like it
(CBS News) From North Carolina to New Jersey, nearly 1.8 million people still without …

Side Splitter: Politico Says Jury Still Out On “Green” Jobs And DOE Loans
  26 Jun 2012     9:24 am      William Teach

So says the headline
On green jobs and DOE loans, the jury is still out
Yet, the information they provide right at the beginning blows that lie right out of the water
The Energy Department’s clean-energy loan program hasn’t yet yielded the kind of moonshot-style success that President Barack Obama envisions would transform the U.S. economy. But its results also go well beyond the $535 million collapse of Solyndra.
With help from the $16 billion loan guarantee program, solar farms are spreading across the California and Arizona deserts, wind turbines are producing electricity in …

UK To Give Up On On-shore Wind Power Subsidies By 2020
  17 Jun 2012     8:03 am      William Teach

Why? Because they are unsightly, make lots of noise, cannot be depended on to produce power when it is not windy or too windy, what power they produce cannot be stored, and really, they only people who benefit are those that own and work for the companies that run them. The average citizen isn’t seeing a reduction in their power bill: they’re actually seeing their bills go up because they pay for the subsidies on their power bills
(UK Telegraph) David Cameron and George Osborne are to come down firmly on …

Good Grief: Dallas Reboot Incorporates “Green”
  15 Jun 2012     8:54 am      William Teach

For those who watched the new Dallas reboot (I didn’t. Wasn’t interested in the first, not interested in this one), did you catch the underlying theme? No? Well, let Time Magazines Ecocentric explain it
In case you thought that the battle between big oil and alternative fuel had cooled down, Hollywood has proven that the debate is hot enough to inspire soap opera-style drama. The central conflicts in the new reboot of the TV show “Dallas,” which premiered Wednesday night on TNT, revolve around questions of clean …

Ten ways that the Obama administration can lower gas prices
  5 Jun 2012     3:00 am      Wintery Knight

From the Heritage Foundation.
Here’s the list:

Lift offshore and onshore exploration and drilling bans
Approve Keystone XL
Require timely environmental review
Permitting process
Issue leases on time
Allow development of oil shale
Stop the land grab
Implement 50/50 revenue sharing
Prohibit greenhouse gas and Tier 3 gas regulations
Repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS)

Here’s the detail on #3 and #6 and #9:

3. Require timely environmental review: Environmental review requirements for oil and gas projects to commence on federal lands under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) take too long. Congress should place a reasonable 270-day time limit on NEPA reviews.

6. Allow development of oil …

Throwing Good Money After Bad
  1 Jun 2012     6:38 pm      Michael Fell

The Labor Department reported that the U.S. economy added 69,000 jobs last month, the lowest number since May of last year. Concurrently, the unemployment rate increased for the first time in eleven months. The “official” jobless rate rose to 8.2%. Additionally, it reported that in the past two months 49,000 fewer jobs were created than originally stated. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also revealed that in America, 766,000 fewer women are employed today than in January 2009, when the current administration first took office.
As a result, the U.S. Stock Market …

Green Death
  31 May 2012     5:26 pm      Michael Fell

Eight regions of Spain have had their credit ratings cut as uneasy Spaniards moved their money overseas. Spooked by the questionable state of their banks, Spanish savers are now moving their money abroad faster than records have ever shown. Spain’s credit rating has been downgraded two notches and nearly 25% of Spaniards are unemployed
The Spanish newspaper La Gaceta ran a full-page article exposing the truth about Spain’s “green jobs” agenda, which just happens to have been cited many times by barack obama as the way “forward” for the United States. …

WV Dems Not Thrilled About Anti-US Energy Obama, Voted for Felon Instead
9 May 2012     5:09 pm      Warner Todd Huston

President Obama had an opponent in the West Virginia Democrat Primary and the fella did pretty well, too. Democrat Keith Judd was Obama’s primary opponent for the Democrat nomination for President on Tuesday and he garnered 40% of the cote, too. I’d say that’s pretty good for a convicted felon that is still serving time in a Texas jail, wouldn’t you?
Oh, I am not pulling your leg, dear reader. Make all the jokes you want (the first one that comes to mid is that all Democrats are criminals) but it …

Video: Costs of Energy Killing Small Businesses
2 May 2012     3:24 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Maria Tworek owns and runs the Brass Monkey Sports Bar in Omaha, Nebraska. It takes a lot of electricity to keep her business going, a commodity whose price just seems to rise. With a greater reliance on coal for electricity, America can keep prices affordable for people like Maria. Clean Coal. Now Is The Time.
Of course, we should always remember that this is exactly what Obama wanted. He said so himself when he was running for president the first time.
Obama said he wanted our energy prices to “necessarily skyrocket” so …

Grist: “U.S. cleantech support about to fall off a cliff “
  19 Apr 2012     7:49 am      William Teach

Resident Grist Warmist David Roberts says this graph should “make your blood run cold” (via Tom Nelson)

That’s from a new report — “Beyond Boom and Bust: Putting Clean Tech on a Path to Subsidy Independence” — from folks at the Breakthrough Institute, Brookings Institution, and World Resources Institute. It’s a welcome and much-needed attempt to put some numbers behind the debate over federal cleantech support.
It’s divided into three parts. The first tells the story of cleantech policy over the last five years. Early in his term, …

ANWR: It’s Been ’10 Years,’ We Could Have Been Reaping Rewards Now
18 Apr 2012     2:19 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Ten years ago this month the Democrats defeated the bill that would have allowed us to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Preserve (ANWR). So it’s happy anniversary to the loss of our energy independence once again.
It turns out that the tenth anniversary is known as the “tin” anniversary in that wonderful list of gifts one gives to celebrate such things. Tin is the perfect alloy when one notes the “tin ear” represented by the constant refrain the left always trumpets whenever we talk about drilling for oil, …

Green firm that got $1.46 billion in bailouts announces 2000 layoffs
  18 Apr 2012     12:00 am      Wintery Knight

Doug Ross linked to this Washington Examiner article about First Solar.
Excerpt:
First Solar, a solar energy company that received a $1.46 billion loan guarantee from the Department of Energy, announced today that it will layoff 2,000 workers in the United States and world-wide.
The company will  “indefinitely idle” four production lines in Malaysia and shutter a plant in Germany. “These actions, combined with other personnel reductions in Europe and the U.S., will reduce First Solar’s global workforce by approximately 2,000 positions, about 30 percent of the total,” First Solar announced today.
“After a thorough analysis, it …

Obama To Offer New “Oil Manipulation” Plan
  17 Apr 2012     8:55 am      William Teach

He also recommends you check your tire pressure to reduce your gas usage
(USA Today) President Obama, facing political problems over high gas prices, will announce a plan today “to increase oversight and crack down on manipulation in oil markets,” the White House announced.
“At a time when American consumers are feeling pain at the pump, it is critically important to ensure that illegal manipulation, fraud and market rigging are not contributing to gas price increases,” said the announcement.
Obama, along with Attorney General Eric Holder, is …

California Shows Why Globull Warming Laws Are Called “Green”
  10 Apr 2012     8:43 am      William Teach

Time and time again, Climate Realists like myself have pointed out that the whole “climate change (hoax)” movement is not about actually dealing with the “carbon poison” and saving the Earth from rising temperatures (which are well within the norm for warm periods over the last 7,000 years): it’s about control and…..money! (via Climate Depot)
(Mercury News) For the past 10 years, California has struggled with huge budget deficits and wrenching cuts. Suddenly, however, the state is poised to raise billions from an unusual new source: the proceeds …

Gas is Over $4 per Gallon But Biden Says Energy Policy is the ‘Best’
  4 Apr 2012     10:22 pm      Lonely Conservative

Yesterday I paid $4.10 per gallon of regular unleaded, but hey, that’s okay. Just ask Vice President Joe Biden. He says the administration’s energy policy is the “best its ever been.” Seriously, he did.
REPORTER: Gas prices are above $4 a gallon. You were asked this question and you gave an answer, but there’s a new commercial out that says, “Since Obama has become president, prices have nearly doubled.” Four years in, should you all have a better energy policy in America?
VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: I think our energy policy’s the best it’s …

Good News! Reno Wind Turbine That Cost $21,000 Saves $4!
  3 Apr 2012     9:50 am      William Teach

I’ve always said that I’m supportive in moving towards alternative energy methods, but, when it comes to big wind farms, I’d have to admit that with each new #Fail story, I’ve moved to the “this is really idiot and should be stopped cause it’s madness” side (via Tom Nelson and The New Nostradamus of the North)
(Power Engineering) The electricity produced by NV Energy’s $46 million wind rebate program has fallen far short of expectations.
In a startling example, the city of Reno’s wind turbines — for which the city received …

Bummer: GOP “Emasculating” Obama Renewable Energy Efforts
  2 Apr 2012     8:39 am      William Teach

In other words, Joe is upset that the GOP refuses to appropriate funds that can be used to scratch the backs of rich Obama campaign donors
(Washington Times) More investment in “green” technology is shaping up to be a cornerstone of President Obama’s re-election effort, and the administration’s No. 2 man on Sunday accused Republicans of standing in the way of wind, solar and other renewable sources of energy.
“They’re emasculating all the efforts to deal with renewable energy,” Vice President Joe Biden said Sunday in a prerecorded interview on CBS‘ “Face …

EPA To Impose Limits On Trace Gas Necessary For Life For Coal Plants
  27 Mar 2012     8:51 am      William Teach

Remember this?

“Under my plan, the “Cap and Trade System” electricity rates would necessarily sky rocket”
Well, since he cannot get that to happen through legislation, even during the time Democrats fully controlled the Senate and House, (NMP) Obama looks to have the EPA institute regulations which will lead to higher energy costs and less available energy
(Washington Post) The Environmental Protection Agency will issue the first limits on greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants as early as Tuesday, according to several people briefed on the proposal. The move could end the …
