America’s Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, Stands Alone Against Unions And Outsiders in Recall Effort
11 Apr 2013
2:40 am
Warner Todd Huston
Only three weeks after re-election in 2012, Sheriff Joe Arpaio was hit with a recall effort. Now, with anti-Arpaio petitions in circulation in Maricopa County, Arizona, “America’s Sheriff” is organizing his forces to oppose a recall backed by the deep pockets of the unions, millions in outside money, and a flood of non-Arizonans arriving to act as the left-winger’s ground troops. (See www.savesheriffjoe.org)
Arpaio’s team is being ramrodded by the Conservative Business League and unlike the opposition’s recall efforts, the CBL is an Arizona-based organization. The duo taking the helm of …

Obama’s Political Action Group Loses Complaint Against Website Address Owner
9 Apr 2013

Warner Todd Huston
Last year, President Obama’s re-election campaign reworked its operations renaming it Organizing for Action in an effort to leverage the President’s monumental email address list to urge supporters to back the President’s policies. But OFA made a tiny mistake: it didn’t register all the various website addresses for its new effort. Worse, when others jumped to register the names, Obama’s political group filed a complaint to get the web addresses back. Now Obama has lost that battle.
In February I reported that team Obama didn’t perform its due diligence and register …

Video: Phyllis Schlafly On the GOP Establishment, Karl Rove, Mitt Romney and Other ‘Losers’
28 Mar 2013
12:45 am
Warner Todd Huston
This year at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), I was fortunate enough to get some time to interview one of the most redoubtable conservative activists in the nation, Phyllis Schlafly. In this eighteen minute video you will encounter a woman that is extremely vital and at 89-years-of-age still sharp as a tack.
As is her wont, Schlafly eschewed kid gloves with her frank discussion of the GOP establishment and how those effete, east coast, country clubbers are at war with the conservative, Midwestern grassroots.
Take Schlafly’s description of “the establishment,” for …

CPAC: Folks, Mitt Romney Lost
15 Mar 2013
4:02 pm
Matt Vespa
Mitt Romney addressed CPAC this afternoon, and I did support his candidacy. After all, he was the only person in our miserable 2012 crop of candidates that had the best chance of winning. However, his communications team was mostly on defense, his high-tech GOTV ORCA program crashed rendering 30,000 volunteers helpless on Election Day, and his candidacy prohibited conservatives from talking about health care. As a result, he lost, and gave Obama a second term.
Romney began his speech with:
Of course, I left the race disappointed that we didn’t win. But I also …

After Millions in Tax Breaks for Hollywood, DreamWorks’ Jeffery Katzenberg Kills 350 Jobs
28 Feb 2013
2:56 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Despite some $430 million in tax breaks for Hollywood in last year’s “fiscal cliff” deal, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has announced that he is cutting 350 people by the end of the year.
After the disappointing box office for DreamWorks’ latest film, The Rise of the Guardians, Katzenberg said that the $165 million loss made him “go back and rethink everything.”
“So it makes you go back and rethink everything, not just the fact that it didn’t work–certainly we spent a lot of time reflecting on that–but more importantly saying, ‘Let’s …

Obama Fails to Register ‘OrganizingForAction.net,’ Hilariously, Site Re-Directs to NRA Homepage
26 Feb 2013

Warner Todd Huston
At the beginning of the year, President Barack Obama’s new 501(c)4 political nonprofit, Organizing For Action, was launched with all the usual bells and whistles. But the tech wizards at OFA forgot one important rule in today’s Internet world: Register all the iterations of your website address before someone else does.
Now Obama’s team is filing complaints against the folks smart enough to get the addresses before he did.
As Obama’s OFA made its debut, no one in his purportedly Internet-savvy campaign had obtained the corresponding .com, .net, .org or .us …

Left Pays No Attention to Obama Pledge of No Name Calling
26 Jan 2013
10:29 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Even as Obama stood in front of hundreds of thousands of admirers during his inaugural speech saying that we needed to end the name calling, many in his party and many of his surrogates have utterly ignored that advice.
“We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate,” Obama said from the Capitol steps on inauguration Monday.
But only a few days later, even as the President was heard pleading for civility, Democrat Senator Patty Murray (WA) accused Republicans of “hostage-taking” over the budget …

Roe at 40: A Discussion with Live Action’s Lila Rose
23 Jan 2013

Matt Vespa
On January 22, the United States celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case, which legalized abortion in all fifty states. In doing so, the Court usurped a developing consensus amongst the state legislatures on the issue, and violated the principle of federalism that should guide how we enact policy in this country. Nevertheless, Roe, in estimates from The National Right to Life Committee, has been responsible for 54,559,615 abortions since 1973. As Daniel Halper wrote for The Weekly Standard on January 22,”that…means there are more than 3,300 …

Dems Gain Voter ID Edge, Again
9 Jan 2013
2:22 pm
Matt Vespa
The pendulum in the war between liberals and conservatives continues to swing with Democrats regaining the voter ID edge in the aftermath of the 2012 election. According to Mike Flynn of Breitbart, he wrote today that this shouldn’t be a surprise.
A new survey by Gallup shows Democrats regaining their edge in party identification over the GOP. In 2012, 47% of Americans identified as Democrat or lean-Democrat. 42% identified as GOP or lean-GOP. In 2011, the two parties were even, with each claiming 45% of Americans. In 2008, however, Democrats held a 12-point …

Obama’s Lawless Presidency
7 Jan 2013
4:48 pm
Warner Todd Huston
President Obama’s supporters love to call him the “cool” President, a “no drama” guy, and generally like to claim he is unflappable in office. Whatever the truth of that claim, there is one thing for sure: he doesn’t sweat the small stuff. Like following the law. During his four years in office this president has shown he couldn’t care less about the laws he’s supposed to be governed by as president.
This lawlessness started all the way back before he even became president. It was widely discussed in 2008 that he …

Ohio Progressive Radio Station Fails, Blames Obama?
20 Dec 2012

Warner Todd Huston
WVKO, a left-wing radio station in Columbus, Ohio, is going under. Even after being the dutiful soldiers for team Obama the station can’t pay its bills. And as the station goes down the tubes they are pointing fingers. At Obama!
Talkers Magazine recently posted the announcement that WVKO, Ohio’s Progressive Radio, will cease operations for 2013. The station will replace the progressive shows with a new Gospel format.
“In a post at the station’s website, Richards spreads the blame around to everyone from the Obama campaign to local advertisers,” Talkers says.
Boy did …

Repeat after me: gun control isn’t the answer
15 Dec 2012

The tragedy in Newton, CT should shake us all to our very core. Of the 26 who were killed yesterday, 20 of them were children. It’s evil. It’s grotesque. And I’m sure many mothers and fathers were holding their children a little tighter last night. Sadly, for twenty families, that will no longer be possible. Our thoughts and prayers should go out to everyone, especially to the brave teachers who sacrificed their lives to save their students. One teacher, Vicki Soto, shielded her students from the gunfire – and made …

Weekly Standard’s Kristol Throws Up Hands, GOP Should ‘Acquiesce’ to Obama
12 Dec 2012

-By Warner Todd Huston
William Kristol, Editor of the Weekly Standard, seems to have decided that retreat is the way forward for the Republican Party. In a new editorial that approaches a meltdown, the Fox commentator and consummate Washington insider essentially advised the GOP to just throw in the towel on these fiscal cliff talks and more or less accept Obama’s terms.
In the piece, a dour Kristol detailed all the shock and depression that Republican insiders feel after losing an election they’d all thought was in the bag for team Romney …

The Lonely Position of Neutral
12 Dec 2012

Matt Vespa
I hate raising taxes. I find high tax rates immoral. However, we lost the election. An increase in revenue is inevitable. What’s perverse about this whole episode is that if we fall off the cliff – Democrats will get everything they want. They’ll get their tax increases, their revenue, and defense cuts. They would complete their decade-long project of ending the Bush Tax Cuts and gutting of the Pentagon. They have no incentive to meet us halfway, or negotiate in a meaningful way to make sure the markets don’t tank. …

In Treatment
12 Dec 2012
2:13 am
Matt Vespa
Yes, Republicans are in treatment after their catastrophic loss last November. We kept our majority in the House due to gerrymandering, and we lost two seats in the Senate. Romney’s loss was bad, but our inability to gain seats in the Senate was ignominious. Democrats were tasked with defending twenty-three senate seats, and twelve of those races had eminently beatable incumbents. However, due to some of our party members’ obsession with rape and pregnancy, we’re short two seats when the next congress convenes.
What’s becoming increasingly clear is that the conservative …

Welfare State Advocate Spews Inaccuracies on PBS NewsHour

Matt Vespa
The PBS NewHour has yet to invite a hard core conservative on the program to talk about the fiscal cliff. Last week, they had NYT’s columnist, left-wing economist, and Obama cheerleader – Paul Krugman to detail his view. Then, they had Sen. Bob Corker ( R-TN), but the December 6 broadcast was the most interesting. PBS invited the Norquist of the left Max Richtman, of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, that we shouldn’t be in a rush to reform our entitlement spending. After all, when the …

AFP-PA presents taxpayer Xmas list, urges PA governor to reject exchange program
11 Dec 2012

Matt Vespa
It’s Christmas Winter solstice/holiday time – and Governor Corbett seems tepid to reject the federal-state health care exchange program, which will be instituted under Obamacare. Mitt Romney implemented a similar program, at the state level, when he was Governor of Massachusetts – which explains why conservatives were unable to make the 2012 election a referendum on Obamcare. As Grace-Marie Turner at Forbes wrote in her column on December 1o, “at least 21 states have said they definitely or probably will not set up state exchanges, with Ohio, Wisconsin, Maine, Nebraska, …

“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”
-Matthew 16:26
While this year’s election was a mixed bag for the GOP overall, many are still mourning Mitt Romney’s loss in the presidential election, and the jury is still out on how the Republican Party will react as they look toward strategies for winning in 2014 and 2016.
One of the most interesting perspectives is coming from those GOP strategists and commentators who still think that the Republican Party needs to moderate even more in order …

Sen. Orrin Hatch: Obama Fiscal Proposal ‘Classic Bait and Switch’
1 Dec 2012
4:12 pm
Warner Todd Huston
Senator Orrin Hatch (R, Utah) delivered the GOP weekly address and it was a damn good one.
He pulled no punches and laid it out straight that Obama lied when he ran for re-election and perpetrated a “classic bait and switch” maneuver. What ever you think of Mr. Hatch or the GOP, he spoke truth in this one.
Transcript:
“Hi. I’m Senator Orrin Hatch from the great state of Utah.
“The holiday season is upon us: a time when families come together to celebrate and reflect on another year gone by—and another …

Obama’s Re-Election Mandate: Guess Whose Money He’s Targeting Next?
1 Dec 2012

Rachel Alexander
Many Americans didn’t bother to vote in the past presidential election, some out of apathy or a belief that the election would hardly affect them. They are in for a rude awakening now that Obama has won re-election. His Santa Claus false promises are unsustainable, so there are going to be few winners and a lot of losers as he redistributes wealth. Obama ran on a platform of making the rich “pay their fair share of taxes,” but raising taxes on the wealthy will only fund the federal government for eight days …
