Environmentalists Target Fracking
24 Feb 2014 9:03 am Rachel Alexander
The environmentalist movement’s latest target is fracking. Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is the process of extracting shale gas from deposits underground. Natural gas releases less CO2 than oil into the environment. For this reasons, environmentalists concerned with global warming should be pleased to be moving away from oil and toward natural gas, but instead they are trying to stop it, state by state as well as on the federal level.
This is because their real goal is not about reducing carbon emissions, but the radical change of getting people out of their …
No Gov’t Employee Should Make $400,000 a Year
22 Feb 2014 4:11 pm Warner Todd Huston
A new transparency project has been launched in California that helps citizens learn just how much salary their government employees earn and the results are shocking. Hundreds of government workers make upwards to and more than $400,000 a year even as California drowns in taxes to pay for it all.
Over at Forbes, Mark Bucher reports of the new group Transparent California which has launched a new web portal where citizens can search out what public employees are earn in salary as well as what their pensions will be.
Some of these …
Retired Sheriff: $276,000 per Year Pension Is Not Enough
21 Feb 2014 1:38 pm Dave Blount
Liberalism often works by starting with an arguably good thing and taking it to such an extreme that it becomes pernicious. Public sector pensions are a prime example. Few would deny retired police officers either a pension or a savings plan. But in liberal states greed has gotten completely out of control. From Ventura County, California:
[F]ormer Sheriff Robert Brooks … retired in 2011 with a salary of $227,000. Today, he collects $50,000 a year more than that [$276,000], with guaranteed cost-of-living increases. But that wasn’t enough. Now he’s suing for …
Obamacare to Come: Canadian Man Dies Ignored in Hospital Waiting Room
20 Feb 2014 3:55 pm Warner Todd Huston
Foreshadowing Obamacare, the family of a Canadian man who died sitting in his wheelchair in the waiting room of a Winnipeg hospital for 34 hours has withdrawn from the inquest being undertaken to find out what went wrong.
The man, Brian Sinclair, 45, was left by hospital workers for 34 hours when he arrived at a hospital emergency room in Winnipeg back in September of 2008. Government officials have been hemming and hawing about looking into the neglect ever since.
Sinclair’s family have now pulled out of the latest attempt by government …
Tax Preparers Getting Tax Dollars to Sign You Up for Obamacare?
19 Feb 2014 5:36 pm Warner Todd Huston
It is tax season and Americans everywhere are taking their receipts and forms to their favorite tax preparer to find out what that final tally will be. But are our tax preparers getting a cash bonus from the taxpayers to sign customers up for Obamacare while they are filling out our tax forms? It seems so.
This new waste of tax money–possibly illegal, definitely unethical–came to light when Will Upton made to write a piece on Obama’s attack on those that want to defund Arkansas’ “private option.” In Arkansas, legislators …
Thought Police: Employers Will Be Forced to Inform Obama Why They’re Firing Someone
12 Feb 2014 1:46 pm Warner Todd Huston
Now businesses will have to go hat in hand to Obama to explain themselves about why they are firing any particular employee. This is just another of Obama’s steps toward the fascist-styled control by Washington bureaucrats over the entirety of the business sector.
As Fox News reported it: “Obama officials made clear in a press briefing that firms would not be allowed to lay off workers to get into the preferred class of those businesses with 50 to 99 employees. How will the feds know what employers were thinking when hiring …
House Passes Clean Debt Ceiling Hike
12 Feb 2014 7:37 am William Teach
Many conservatives/Republicans range from agitated to apoplectic. Liberals are crowing. The Washington Post’s uber-leftists (like the WP’s opinion pages aren’t chock full of them, has to be at least a 85-15% split) goes with this provocative headline
GOP debt limit extortion is dead
Because attempting to limit the insane debt increases is apparently a bad thing. Remember, the debt was $10.626 trillion on President Bush’s last day in office. The debt clock now stands at $17.325 trillion. It rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It’s risen almost …
Senator Dick Durbin Lies With Impunity
11 Feb 2014 2:38 pm Warner Todd Huston
Senator Dick Durbin is at it again, lying through his teeth, this time about Obamacare. On Sunday’s Meet The Press, Illinois Democrat Durbin made the wild-eyed claim that ten million Americans found new health insurance thanks to Obamacare. He also claimed that Obamacare would lower the deficit. But even the Washington Post gave its worst rating to Durbin’s lies.
As the discussion shifted to healthcare during the Feb. 5 broadcast, host Bob Schieffer lamented that Obamacare is still confusing everyone and asked Durbin if there is “any hope of getting it …
Era of Obama: Number of Americans Renouncing Citizenship Soars
8 Feb 2014 2:59 pm Warner Todd Huston
During the age of Obama, Americans have renounced their citizenship at record numbers. In fact in four out of Obama’s five years in the White House, expatriation numbers set record highs.
Just as an example, during all eight years of George W. Bush’s terms in office, 3,865 Americans renounced their citizenship and moved overseas. But during Obama’s first five years fully 7,988 Americans quit being Americans and in 2013 expatriation soared to 2,999, a record that smashed the previous high of 1,781 set in Obama’s third year in office.

Obameconomy: Wages Almost Flatlining
8 Feb 2014 6:48 am William Teach
The jobs report released Friday was bad. “Unexpectedly”. We seem to see quite a few of these. Though the White House always tells us “it is important not to read too much into any one monthly report.” But there was another little bomb within the report, and Nelson D. Schwartz at the NY Times performs a random act of journalism
For the more than 10 million Americans who are out of work, finding a job is hard. For the 145 million or so who are employed, getting a raise is even …View More...
Obama Imports ‘Advisor’ From Socialist Europe to Push Obamacare
4 Feb 2014 12:16 pm Warner Todd Huston
Now Obama is importing big government advocates from Europe to help him push Obamacare on Americans.
Obama is importing Germany’s former health minister, Daniel Bahr, to help push the President’s failed Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. He is also joining the extremist, left-wing think tank, the Center for American Progress (CAP).
Bahr lost his government job in Germany last September when his party couldn’t muster enough votes to stay in power. He was quoted as telling his fellow Germans that he’d “find something” to do.
Apparently pushing big government boondoggles on Americans was …
Imperial President’s Newest Lawbreaking: Violating Trademark Laws
31 Jan 2014 1:12 pm Warner Todd Huston
With his introduction of his new (and useless) MyRA investment program, we discover that President Obama is so dismissive of following the law, he doesn’t even think that he has to abide by trademark and copyright laws.
A law abiding entrepreneur has one chore to satisfy before launching a new ad campaign, product, or offering and that is to search the trademark and copyright lists to make sure he isn’t stealing someone else’s intellectual property. But not if you’re president, apparently. No if you’re Barack Obama you can steal someone’s …
Autocrat-lite POTUS To Unilaterally Raise Minimum Wage For Federal Contractors
28 Jan 2014 8:51 am William Teach
I’m sure Team Obama gave long, careful thought to this, weighing the pros and cons, considering the costs….or, really, sat around in a bull session which included political wonks, none with any experience in the private market, saying “how can we pump up he moonbat base”?
(NY Times) President Obama plans to sign an executive order requiring that janitors, construction workers and others working for federal contractors be paid at least $10.10 an hour, using his own power to enact a more limited version of a policy that he has yet …
Missouri’s Kit Bond Shows Why Politics Has No Soul
27 Jan 2014 4:34 pm Warner Todd Huston
Missouri’s Kit Bond is a perfect example of why regular Americans hate, hate, hate politicians and politics. It’s because Bond and his ilk prove to many that politicians are nothing but money-grubbing liars.
Duane Lester of The Missouri Torch gives us the perfect example of this cynical example of the worst in politics with the story of Kit Bond’s 180 degree flip flop on expanding Medicaid made only because his new position as a lobbyist brings him boatloads of money.
Kit Bond was a Republican Senator from the State of Missouri and …
Moody’s Downgrades Health Insurance Industry Due to ObamaCare
24 Jan 2014 12:12 pm Dave Blount
One advantage of disregarding the rule of law and governing basically as a dictator is that it allows Obama to make changes to the laws his allies in Congress ram through on the fly, without any tedious constitutional rigmarole. A disadvantage is that dictatorships don’t tend to be as economically successful as the USA was prior to its fundamental transformation. Moody’s downgrade of the health insurance industry from “stable” to “negative” due to ObamaCare helps illustrate why:
The White House has changed the playing field on the fly in recent weeks …
In America, the Have-Nots Have Plenty
23 Jan 2014 3:05 pm Dave Blount
If you are tempted to take Obama’s rhetoric regarding income inequality at face value, have a look at this graph from the book The Haves and the Have-Nots by World Bank economist Branko Milanovic:
Amazingly, it was published by the New York Times a few years ago, along with this explanation:
Here the population of each country is divided into 20 equally-sized income groups, ranked by their household per-capita income. These are called “ventiles,” as you can see on the horizontal axis, and each “ventile” translates to a cluster of five percentiles. …
Illinois Ranks as One of Worst States for Losing Citizens
22 Jan 2014 1:01 pm Warner Todd Huston
Illinois keeps racking up those plaudits as the worst of the worst states in the country, this time coming in second of the top states for outward migration. Illinois has seen more of its citizens fleeing its failing edifice than every other state but New Jersey.
This list is maintained by one of the nation’s largest moving companies, United Van Lines and is compiled every year as the company tracks the migrations statistics of the nation.
“As the nation’s largest household goods mover, United’s shipment data illustrates national state-to-state migration trends,” …
Prosperity Redistributed: The Real Unemployment Rate and Misery for All
22 Jan 2014 11:37 am Terresa Monroe-Hamilton
By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton
Marxists: Let the unemployed eat cake…
Guess I was wrong… but not in the way the Left would like to see. For years now, I have told our readers that the unemployment rate is closer to 25%. That the government is manipulating the rate and outright lying to America. David John Marotta, a Wall Street adviser and President of Marotta Wealth Management, puts it closer to 37.2%, not the unicorn dust propaganda of 6.7% claimed by the Fed. Let’s put that in a new light, shall we? The unemployment …
Target Joins Growing Number Of Companies Dropping Health Insurance For Part-Timers
22 Jan 2014 8:19 am William Teach
More victims of Obama’s signature legislation, aided and abetted by most Democrats
(Bloomberg) Target Corp. (TGT) said it will end health insurance for part-time employees, joining Trader Joe’s Co., Home Depot Inc. and other retailers that have scaled back benefits in response to changes from Obamacare.
About 10 percent of Target’s part-time employees, defined as those working fewer than 30 hours a week, use the company’s health plans now, according to an announcement posted on the Minneapolis-based company’s website. Target said it would pay $500 to part-timers losing coverage and a consulting …
Seven Facts Defining the Obama Economy
21 Jan 2014 3:21 pm Dave Blount
Before allowing his enablers in the media to spin Obama’s misbegotten presidency as anything but a disaster, refer to the seven key economic facts gathered by Wynton Hall:
1. A Record 91.8 Million Americans Are No Longer in the Workforce
2. Since Jan. 2009, the Number of Jobless Working-Age Americans Has Risen [by] 9.6 Million People
3. 47.4 Million Americans Now Rely on Food Stamps
4. A Record 10.98 Million Americans Now Receive Disability Checks
5. Nearly One in Three Americans Fell into Poverty Between 2009-2011
6. 42% of Americans Believe Themselves Worse …
