AP: Gosnell’s Gruesome Assistants ‘Only Following Orders’
16 Apr 2013     7:55 pm      Warner Todd Huston

In shades of the Nuremberg Trials, an April 12 article from the Associated Press seems to excuse away the actions of the assistants of accused criminal abortionist Kermit Gosnell as “only following orders.”
For the AP, Maryclaire Dale begins her piece with that very sentiment saying, “They say they were just doing what the boss trained them to do.”
Incredibly, throughout the article, Dale seems to absolve these assistants for the horrible things they did, softening the guilt of nearly every person accused of crimes with excuses.
In some cases, Dale claims that …

The CA Bill That Would Shut Down Every Small Restaurant
13 Apr 2013     5:44 pm      Warner Todd Huston

The State of California has one of the worst proposals of any legislature in the country this year with a new bill that would force every restaurant and food service business in the state to commission an expensive “risk assessment” test for every menu item, a test that could cost thousands of dollars for every food item sold. This outrageous and cost prohibitive testing would certainly cause all but the biggest chain restaurants to go out of business almost instantly.
In another exercise in nanny-statism, California’s State Senate Democrats want this …

Supernanny Cass Sunstein’s ‘Friendly Paternalism’: It’s For Your Own Good, America
12 Apr 2013     4:58 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Cass Sunsetein, one of President Obama’s leading left-wing, university eggheads, has penned an interesting piece in New Republic explaining how the nanny state is really a very important and useful aspect of today’s modern Democrat scheme. It’s for your own good, don’t you know?
Launching his April 8 piece, “Why Paternalism Is Your Friend,” Sunstein evokes New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s (mostly failed, not that Sunstein says so) nanny state efforts to take away his constituents’ freedom on such things as trans fats, sodas, and guns. Sunstein points out that to …

Quit Laughing, Hillary Really is Just LIke Margaret Thatcher
10 Apr 2013     3:18 pm      Warner Todd Huston

With the passing of Margaret Thatcher, one of the greatest, most powerful women in recent political history, the American Old Media establishment is all abuzz about… Hillary Clinton. To their minds, talk of the powerful and brilliant Thatcher naturally brings to mind the wife of one of their favorite presidents and Hillary, as far as they are concerned, is somehow “just like” Margaret Thatcher.
I know, I know. Stop your laughing. Hillary really is just lIke Margaret Thatcher.
Or maybe not.
But, of course you should laugh. The idea that Hillary Clinton is …

Eagle-Killing, Investment-Wasting ‘Renewable’ Energy
3 Apr 2013     6:55 pm      Warner Todd Huston

The “Green Energy” sector has been hit with a series of setbacks over the last few years. From a wind farm being cited for killing an endangered eagle, to solar energy’s tumble from investor favor over dismal performance, to a growing list of companies gone bankrupt even after President Obama pumped millions of our tax dollars into them, the so-called Green Energy sector has certainly seen better, more hopeful days.
In the realm of farce, a wind farm in Nevada finds itself at an unfortunate crossroads of political correctness. Even as …

Toll Roads and Double Taxation: The Left and Libertarians Converge
  1 Apr 2013     4:38 pm      Rachel Alexander

Toll roads are appealing to many on the right, because the fees don’t look like taxes; motorists are charged for the voluntary action of driving on a specific road. Toll roads appear to be run by private entities, not the government. Also known as turnpikes, they are becoming an increasingly popular way to raise money to build roads, instead of increasing gas taxes which have traditionally paid for highways. Gas tax revenues only have about one-third the buying power they did a decade ago, insufficient to build new roads or …

All Other Problems Solved, Chicago Democrats’ New Law Worried About Dogs Behind the Wheel
31 Mar 2013     1:00 am      Warner Todd Huston

Having apparently solved all of the other debilitating problems Illinois is facing, Chicago Democrats have now turned their considered attention to making sure dog owners don’t let their puppies get behind the wheel of an automobile.
This important bill (HB1581) amends the Illinois vehicle code to ban drivers from putting their pooch on their laps as they drive. Presumably the Democrats understand it is the humans that are doing the driving, not the dogs–but we may need to launch a second legislative campaign to clarify that.
As Chicago-based Democrat and co-sponsor of …

Dismantling Washington
  13 Mar 2013     5:31 am      Josh Bernstein

Washington, D.C. (which the DC part now stands for dirty cesspool) should become a thing of the past. Society has outgrown the need for a centralized government full of power hungry aristocrats, greedy lobbyists, and corrupt white collar criminals.
When I say criminals I am not just talking in the abstract; I am referring to real criminals.
According to a study from the online publication Capitol Hill Blue, the American people have elected a bunch of politicians that are better at breaking laws than making laws. America’s low information voters have chosen …

Democrats Want Background Checks… Except When They Don’t
18 Feb 2013     3:30 pm      Warner Todd Huston

One of the main discussions in this ginned up, fact-free anti-gun debate coming from the Democrats and their fellow extreme leftists is that they want “universal background checks” for gun purchases. So, “background checks” are a good idea to left-wingers… but in all cases? As it happens, NO is the answer to that. Democrats don’t want universal background checks in all cases.
Jams Bovard shows us this fact quite clearly in his recent Wall Street Journal piece headlined, “Perform Criminal Background Checks at Your Peril.”
Now, Bovard isn’t talking about the gun …

Surprise! FTC Drops Google Anti-Trust Case
  4 Jan 2013     8:42 am      William Teach

I’m wondering if Liberals and Occupiers will protest against what appears to be yet another Big Company involved in a pay for play scheme to avoid punishment? Anyhow, there are two big stories over at Politico about how Google beat the feds, the first linked by Drudge, more about the nuts and bolts of the deal, and the other
(Politico) Google escaped from a nearly two-year federal antitrust probe with only a few scratches by proving that the best defense is a good offense.
Instead of ignoring Washington — as rival Microsoft …

What Fiscal Cliff? VP Biden, Gov’t Workers Getting Raises
30 Dec 2012     4:53 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Imagine you are working for a company that is going bankrupt, but everyone you work with and your bosses are getting pay raises. Seem absurd? Not if you work for the failing federal government because President Obama has happily decreed that Vice President Biden, members of Congress and most federal workers are getting raises for 2013.
As the U.S. government is losing its luster on the bond market and as the fiscal cliff looms, President Obama issued an executive order to give everyone raises.
Obama has generously bestowed a $6,379 per year …

Weekly Standard’s Kristol Throws Up Hands, GOP Should ‘Acquiesce’ to Obama
12 Dec 2012     4:19 pm      Warner Todd Huston

-By Warner Todd Huston
William Kristol, Editor of the Weekly Standard, seems to have decided that retreat is the way forward for the Republican Party. In a new editorial that approaches a meltdown, the Fox commentator and consummate Washington insider essentially advised the GOP to just throw in the towel on these fiscal cliff talks and more or less accept Obama’s terms.
In the piece, a dour Kristol detailed all the shock and depression that Republican insiders feel after losing an election they’d all thought was in the bag for team Romney …

VOTE FRAUD: Vir. Dem’s Field Director Conspires to Commit Voter Fraud, Forge Docs
24 Oct 2012     1:27 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Jim Moran is an extremist, liberal Congressman from the state of Virginia and it appears that his campaign office thinks perpetrating vote fraud is a very good idea. So good that Moran’s campaign field director, his son Patrick, conspired with the undercover camera of James O’Keefe to commit vote fraud through forged documents and other violations of the law.
This is pretty blatant. If this guy is doing this so easily, how often is this going on in every other Democrat campaign office? You can bet its a daily occurrence.

Key points:
The …

Softening The Blow: NPR Edits Word ‘Tax’ Out of Democrat Debate Performance
20 Oct 2012     10:00 am      Warner Todd Huston

Voters do not like taxes. So, National Public Radio in New Hampshire seems to have thought it would be nice to help Maggie Hassan, the Democrat candidate for Governor, by doing a little editing work to take the word “tax” out of one of her answers at a recent candidates debate. The radio folks claimed it was a “mistake,” but eliminating the word sure does tend to soften the blow of her policy ideas.
The September 19 debate featured Republican candidate Ovide Lamontagne and Democrat candidate Maggie Hassan both vying to …

Chevy Volt Battery Plant Floundering Despite $151 Million from Obama
26 Sep 2012     1:30 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Another in a long list of Obama-touted and tax-supported “green energy” companies is on the verge of going out of business, this time in Michigan.
Two years ago, President Obama visited the LG Chem battery plant in Holland, Michigan. Obama then hailed the plant saying, “You are leading the way in showing how manufacturing jobs are coming right back here to the United States of America.”
But today, those LG Chem jobs Obama claimed were “coming back” are seeing intermittent layoffs instead of growth.
In 2010, the plant, which supplies batteries for the …

White House: Talk About Anything But Our Record
  8 Aug 2012     12:02 am      Michael Fell

Ever since the 2009 GM bailout by “progressive” big government ended the pensions of 20,000 retirees at Delphi auto parts manufacturing, the White House and the Department of Treasury have laid the blame on the steps of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
Internal government emails have been obtained that show the U.S. Treasury Department, run by Timothy Geithner, was behind those termininations.  All 20,000 of the pensions seem to have been ended strictly for the reason that those retirees did not belong to labor unions.

How Obama Enabled Unscrupulous Banks to Foreclose on Innocent Homeowners
  5 Aug 2012     4:01 pm      Rachel Alexander

The epidemic of home foreclosures has been made far worse than necessary due to the banks’ unwillingness to work with homeowners. Although Congress has passed numerous laws to force the banks to assist homeowners, the banks have found ways not to comply. The banks also brazenly break other laws to further their profits at the expense of homeowners, most recently by falsifying interest rates in theLIBOR scandal.
Regular middle class Americans everywhere have unjustly lost their homes to foreclosure. They ended up in homes they could not sell due to the …

Government or Business?
  30 Jul 2012     5:36 pm      Michael Fell

A review of history shows that smaller government and lower tax rates consistently prove more fiscally sound and achieve greater success at stimulating economies than do the big government, big spending policies of the current administration and fellow “progressive” Democrats.
The White House’s agenda is disastrous for economic growth and stability. Much of what the Oval Office occupier calls “tax cuts” are rewards for participating in an unproven, inefficient, unreliable “green energy” fairy tale.  To a large degree “green energy” has proven to be nothing more than a thinly veiled means …

Solyndra Republicans, Why the GOP Cannot be Trusted
22 Jul 2012     7:26 pm      Warner Todd Huston

On Friday, July 20, Politico reported that GOP leadership in the House beat back an attempt by recalcitrant members of their own caucus to continue to quietly support the sort of pork spending that gave us Solyndra in the first place.
House GOP leadership has been beating the Democrats up for the pure wasteful spending that was Democrat support for the now bankrupted “green energy” company Solyndra. But a few Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee wanted to buck the anti-bailout theme and quietly keep the spending program that …

TARP Banks Caught Falsifying Interest Rates in LIBOR Rate-Setting Scandal
  19 Jul 2012     12:20 pm      Rachel Alexander

One of the few issues which both the political left and the right agree upon is rooting out financial corruption by the banking industry. The latest banking scandal involves big banks submitting falsified data in order to keep their borrowing rates low. As many as 16 banks worldwide have been submitting false information to LIBOR, the London interbank offer rate. LIBOR is considered one of the most crucial interest rates in finance. It is the average interest rate the world’s largest banks pay when they borrow money from each other, …
