Reactions From The People On The Right Voted “Least Favorite” By Conservative Bloggers

On Friday, the Right-Of-Center Bloggers Select Their Least Favorite People On The Right (2009 Edition) poll was released on Right Wing News.

Intriguingly, some of the people who made the list responded and I found their responses to be quite revealing.

Here’s Charles Johnson from Little Green Footballs’ reaction to being detested by many of the very same conservative bloggers he had linked on his page a year ago:

Looks like I’ve replaced Andrew Sullivan as the most hated blogger, which is quite an accomplishment. I’d like to thank the wonderful folks who voted me the sixth most despised “right wing” figure, equally as repulsive as Pat “Hitler wasn’t so bad” Buchanan, and much more disgusting than Ron Paul, Mark Sanford, or Pat Robertson: Right-Of-Center Bloggers Select Their Least Favorite People On The Right.

It will be difficult, but I’ll do my best to live up to this honor.

So, since everything with Charles Johnson is “This person is a horrible, evil, bigoted monster because he knows this jerk, who’s friends with that guy, and both of them once linked to this guy, who’s really bad,” does that mean Charles is a vile, rotten cretin? After all, he did spend the last few years allied with the very same perfectly awful Christians and conservatives he now talks about with the sort of venom he used to reserve for Al-Qaeda and Islamic Jihad. Of course, that was when he ran an anti-jihad blog as opposed to a Firedoglake knockoff.

Also, let me add that the people who were banned from LGF should count themselves lucky because I’ve noticed that the people left over there are embarrassing. Every thread goes something like this:

“Oh Charles, you’re sooooooo wonderful”

“Know who I always agree with? Charles!”

“Charles is soooo smart and the people who don’t like him are BAD!”

There’s always a little bit of that, that goes on in a blog comment section, but it’s sad somehow to see one of the wildest, free wheeling political comment sections on the net turn into the political equivalent of a Britney Spears fan club. (PS: When do we start to see the moral equivalence posts at LGF explaining how the Israelis are just as bad as the Palestinians because both are run by religious extremists? It would seem to be the next logical step.)

Andrew Sullivan, who’s a few years further down the road in his transformation than Charles — and considerably more dishonest — commented as well:

They have an internal enemies list of conservatives who need to be expelled or disciplined for heresy. Top of the list: Olympia Snowe and John McCain, perhaps the two Republicans most able to talk persuasively to the center. (I’m disappointed I did so poorly this year; Frum is now the online conservative the base most likes to hate). Now check out the list of those the Reynolds crowd loves:

12) Ann Coulter 7
10) Jonah Goldberg 8
10) Newt Gingrich 8
9) Jim DeMint 9
7) Mark Levin 10
7) Glenn Beck 10
6) Charles Krauthammer 11
5) Mark Steyn 14
4) Michelle Malkin 15
3) Thomas Sowell 17
2) Sarah Palin 20
1) Rush Limbaugh 24

They think this will get them back to power?

Maybe it’s because he’s apparently high all the time (which honestly, explains a lot with Sullivan), but isn’t this the same guy who pretends to be a conservative? Isn’t this the same man who took the farce so far that he actually wrote a book called, “The Conservative Soul: Fundamentalism, Freedom, and the Future of the Right?” Yet he despises every prominent conservative in America, scorns conservative principles, and despises real conservatives. Sullivan is such a Humpty Dumpty. His whole political writing career can now be summed up by the words:

“When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”

Last but not least, is David Frum from A New Majority:

John Hawkins’ poll at Right Wing News names the people on the right most disliked in the right-wing blogosphere…

David Frum tied with Lindsay Graham for 3rd place, just behind John McCain, but beating David Brooks. (Olympia Snowe ranked first.) Nobody wishes to be disliked of course, but at least the company on the disliked list represents a big improvement over the “most respected” list, which is headed by Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin.

See, this is why I find people like Frum, Conor Friesdorf, Kathleen Parker, David Brooks, Meghan McCain, etc., etc., so worthy of utter contempt.

Frum, runs a website called “A New Majority,” so one might presume he wants to a build a “New Majority” of some sort. Yet, look at the reality of what he is best known for doing: He attacks conservatives for the amusement of liberals. But, how do you build a “new majority” doing that?

Liberals have no interest in David Frum’s ideas. They simply want to use him as a stick to beat conservatives with. Conservatives obviously have no use for someone who drips with contempt for them — and moderates, well, being moderates, you can’t build anything with them. They simply don’t have the fire or the ideological coherency to build a movement around.

Out of this batch of squish “reformers,” the only one I have noticed who doesn’t fall into this trap consistently is Ross Douthat. I often don’t agree with Ross, but I at least respect him because he is smart enough to realize that if he is going to change the Republican Party, he is going to have to do it by bringing conservatives on board with his ideas, not by pooping in his hand and hurling it at the conservatives he doesn’t like.

It’s too bad that people like Kathleen Parker and David Frum, both of whom I used to like and respect, have turned into cute little trained circus monkeys for the Left, because we could have used them on our side.
