Obama Sinking Fast Among Youth

The bad thing about being young is you are born knowing nothing. The good thing is that your brain is wired to learn quickly — which is just what millennials have been doing where Obama is concerned:

Young Americans are turning against Barack Obama and Obamacare, according to a new survey of millennials, people between the ages of 18 and 29 who are vital to the fortunes of the president and his signature health care law.

The most startling finding of Harvard University’s Institute of Politics: A majority of Americans under age 25–the youngest millennials–would favor throwing Obama out of office.

Obama has a natural advantage among youth, both because of the famous dictum usually credited to Winston Churchill that “If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart and if you are not conservative at thirty, you have no brain,” and because thanks to demographic engineering exercised through welfare and immigration policies, the younger you are, the more likely you are to be a minority who will enjoy special privileges under liberal rule. Nonetheless the erstwhile Anointed One is sinking fast in this key demographic.

Obama’s approval rating among young Americans is just 41 percent, down 11 points from a year ago, and now tracking with all adults. While 55 percent said they voted for Obama in 2012, only 46 percent said they would do so again.

Most strikingly, 52% of 18- to 24-year-olds favor throwing the Redistributor in Chief out of office.

IOP director Trey Grayson called the results a “sea change” attributable to the generation’s outsized and unmet expectations for Obama, as well as their concerns about the economy, Obamacare and government surveillance.

The young are starting to smell the coffee on ObamaCare — except it doesn’t smell anything like coffee.

Only 18 percent [of millennials] say Obamacare will improve their care. Among 18-to-29-year-olds currently without health insurance, less than one-third say they’re likely to enroll in the Obamacare exchanges.

This is very bad news for ObamaCare, which depends on youth being willing to take it in the neck to subsidize older folks who need more healthcare.

But it is not necessarily good news for Republicans.

Republican and Democratic leaders should find little solace in the results. The survey said that 33 percent of young Americans consider themselves Democrats and 24 percent identify with the GOP. The largest and growing segment is among independents, 41 percent of the total.

A Republican Party that flies in the face of the MSM’s calumnies and convinces the young that they are the good guys could cash in on disaffection with Democrats. A GOP led by Democrat-lite hacks like McConnell, Boehner, and McCain, however, may watch from the sidelines along with the Dems as a third party races past both of them. A revitalized Tea Party — if its leaders are clever enough to use demonization by the establishment as a point in its favor among naturally rebellious youth — could be well positioned to pull this off.
