Less than a month ago, the city of Chicago did an about-face on naming a school for Barack Obama. Windy City Mayor Rahm Emanuel — Obama’s former Chief of Staff and political adviser — quietly let it be known that a new, state-of-the-art $60 million high school would not be named for the man who had made Chicago his home.
The reason for the rejection? “Community input,” said Emanuel — community input about the former community organizer. Ouch.
Now, the state where Obama claims he was born — the state where the Obama family will reportedly have a home once they leave the White House — yes, the state of Hawaii has its own case of “never mind.”
According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, two city council members have withdrawn their proposal for renaming a popular beach for Barack Obama — a beach where the president himself has been seen, quite publicly, enjoying the surf.
Don’t feel too bad for Obama, though — he’s still getting other stuff named after him. Apparently, researchers named a parasitic worm in Africa after him, which is probably much more fitting anyway.
