Is the AOL/HuffPo Honeymoon Over?
  6 May 2012     3:01 pm

There may be trouble in the AOL/HuffPo relationship, a report by Keach Hagey at the Wall Street Journal suggests:
Arianna Huffington acknowledged Thursday that her portfolio at AOL Inc. is being scaled back to include only the Huffington Post, undoing a structure put in place when her website was acquired by AOL last year. …
The wider separation of the Huffington Post and the rest of AOL … has fueled questions about the Huffington Post’s long-term future at the company.
Ms. Huffington said Thursday that she had been approached by private-equity firms interested …

Heartland Institute Hits Global Warming With Ted Kaczynski Billboard Campaign
  4 May 2012     3:12 pm

This is brilliant:
Billboards in Chicago paid for by The Heartland Institute point out that some of the world’s most notorious criminals say they “still believe in global warming” — and ask viewers if they do, too. . . .
The billboard series features Ted Kaczynski, the infamous Unabomber; Charles Manson, a mass murderer; and Fidel Castro, a tyrant. Other global warming alarmists who may appear on future billboards include Osama bin Laden and James J. Lee (who took hostages inside the headquarters of the Discovery Channel in 2010).
These rogues and villains …

‘A Very Gay Mother’s Day’
  25 Apr 2012     8:06 am

Not exactly your old-fashioned traditional celebration:
A New York group that describes itself as “an advocate and resource for people with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) parents” has announced a Mother’s Day fundraiser at a Soho sex-toy shop. “Join the queerspawn of COLAGE NYC on Sunday, May 13 for a very gay Mothers’ Day!” says the online invitation to the third annual event, advertised with the slogan ”HOT CHILD IN THE CITY: Flaming Parents Make Hotter Children!”
Pundette comments: “Western civilization had a nice run.”

Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 Goes Worldwide: Meets With Japanese Tea Party Leaders
  10 Feb 2012     8:20 am

Left to right: Yuya Watase of the Tokyo Tea Party and Jikido “Jay” Aeba of HRP
wait while Herman Cain listens to translator Yuki Oikana.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call from one of Herman Cain’s aides, asking if I could attend a meeting at 5 p.m. Well, sure, of course, but what was the meeting about? It was explained to me, and I was subsequently informed that I would be the only reporter in the room, at Mr. Cain’s specific request. The story was truly remarkable, and the exclusive …

Third-Rate Bromance, RINO Rendezous
  15 Dec 2011     10:55 am

MSNBC has in recent weeks become the daily venue for one of the most bizarre reality shows on cable TV: Morning Bromance, starring Joe Scarborough as a man helplessly smitten with “Republican presidential candidate” Jon Huntsman.
When he isn’t blowing air-kisses at Huntsman, Scarborough is citing every possible media blurb about Huntsman as ratification of the former Utah governor’s make-believe campaign. Joe is to Jon what 11-year-old girls are to Justin Bieber, or what Chris Matthews is to Barack Obama. If Scarborough hasn’t yet announced his leg-tingles for Huntsman, it’s only …

Santorum Iowa Ad: ‘No Surrender’
  5 Dec 2011     6:25 pm

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has published a full-page ad in Iowa newspapers in which the former Pennsylvania senator vows to “protect America’s moral foundation.”
The new ad, clearly aimed at social conservatives who are a key GOP constituency in the Hawkeye State, is timed to coincide with Santorum’s three-day “Faith, Family and Freedom” tour of Iowa, which began Sunday in Sioux City.
“I believe what makes America exceptional is not just our economic potential or our remarkable innovation, but the fact that we are a moral enterprise,” Santorum says in the …

Rick Santorum Criticizes Newt Gingrich on ABC’s ‘This Week’
  4 Dec 2011     12:19 pm

Current Republican presidential front-runner Newt Gingrich has put social issues in “the back of the bus,” his GOP rival Rick Santorum said Sunday in an appearance on ABC’s This Week.
Asked by host Christianne Amanapour about Gingrich’s stand on “social values,” Santorum said: “I think Newt has consistently put those in, let’s say, the back of the bus. He has never really been an advocate of pushing those issues. Newt is someone who likes to get issues that are 80 to 90 percent in the polls, and 80 percent in the …

Sharon Bialek’s Fiancé Belatedly Remembers He’s Not Her Fiancé
  12 Nov 2011     11:17 am

Things that make you go “hmmmm.”
A northwest suburban man says he needs to clear the air after coming to the support of his fiancee, who accuses GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain of making a sexual play for her.
For starters, Sharon Bialek isn’t his fiancee, said Mark Harwood in an exclusive interview on Wednesday night.
“We were engaged last year in June but I think there have been some assumptions that Sharon still lives here in Mundelein with me” Harwood told the I-Team. “Sharon and her son moved out in February of …

Gov. Benzene: Huntsman a ‘Green’ Phony
  8 Sep 2011     12:58 pm

For weeks, I’ve been mystified and irritated by the media’s love affair with Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who joined the Obama administration just about the time most conservatives were joining the Tea Party movement.
Why the hell is this guy — “Governor Asterisk,” an irrelevant distraction, a Charlie Crist clone who represents no actual GOP constituency — being included in the Republican debates and treated with fawning deference by the media? After last night’s debate, when Huntsman attacked Rick Perry as “anti-science” for his skepticism toward global warming, I …

Leftist Rips Off My Video for Vicious Smear on Michele Bachmann
  29 Aug 2011     11:36 pm

On Friday, Aug. 5, I spent several hours standing in the rain to cover Michelle Bachmann during her appearance at the Spirit Midwest Christian Music Festival in West Des Moines, Iowa. To give you an idea of the conditions that afternoon, here is a photo I took of some teenagers at the festival:

The big news that Friday was that Standard & Poor had downgraded the credit rating on the U.S. national debt, and I got video of Bachmann’s press statement calling for Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s resignation. It was not …

Herman Cain: ‘Still in It to Win It’
  20 Aug 2011     6:40 pm

Herman Cain speaks Aug. 13 at the Ames Straw Poll
Herman Cain is “still in it to win it,” his Republican presidential campaign told supporters in a fundraising e-mail highlighting the Atlanta businessman’s speech last week at the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames.
Describing Cain as “a real leader” with “proven results,” the e-mail sent Saturday urges supporters, “Please give your most generous gift today — even $5, $10, $25 helps — to help us spread Herman’s message of ‘Common Sense Solutions’ across America.” The fundraising message included a link to a …

Three Iowa TV Ads: Tim Pawlenty, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry
  5 Aug 2011     1:33 pm

DES MOINES, Iowa
During commercial breaks on Fox News here — with the Ames Straw Poll now barely a week away — viewers will sometimes see these ads in back-to-back sequence:

Yesterday, I hit the road to Oskaloosa to cover the Herman Cain campaign, but much of focus leading up to Ames is going to be on the life-or-death struggle by Pawlenty to avoid a worse-than-expected straw-poll finish:
Rightly or wrongly, the vote in Ames is seen as a make-or-break test for some of the hopefuls, especially former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who …

Michele Bachmann Touts ‘No’ Vote on Debt Ceiling Deal in Latest Iowa TV Ad
  4 Aug 2011     10:21 am

DES MOINES, Iowa
While watching TV news in my motel this morning, I saw a Michele Bachmann ad, aimed directly at getting her supporters out to next week’s Ames Straw Poll:

It’s a good ad: She slams Washington “politicians,” blames the bad economy on Obama, says, “Someone needs to say no,” and closes with an invitation to Ames.
Also — let’s admit it — she just looks great on camera, doesn’t she?

Greek Crisis Could Trigger ‘Meltdown’
  27 Jun 2011     7:49 am

Last week, CNN resorted to psychics, astrologers and tarot-card readings in an effort to predict the economic future. Those of us who don’t commune with the spirit world are more concerned with the Greek debt crisis. One U.S. analyst said that the “downside” risk, if European leaders can’t come up with a bailout deal, “is effectively a financial system meltdown.”
The political situation in Greece is not encouraging. The Greek parliament will vote this week on an austerity plan — which bankers are demanding in order to extend the country further credit …

Who Is John Galt?
  2 Mar 2011     12:07 pm

The makers of the new movie Atlas Shrugged: Part I have invited me to an exclusive screening today in Washington, D.C. Here’s the trailer:

They’ve taken a huge gamble, producing this ambitious film under a tight deadline and on a tight budget.
During the CPAC blogger bash at FreedomWorks, they previewed four scenes from the movie. Clearly, they’re hoping to generate major buzz before the film’s theatrical release on April 15.
Yeah: Tax Day. Pretty clever.

Mike Capuano: Thug 4 Life
  23 Feb 2011     2:04 pm

“He’s a thug, plain and simple,” says Pundette, after Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Mike Capuano demonstrated the liberal “New Tone” at a union rally in Boston:
“I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going. Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary,” Rep. Mike Capuano (D-Ma.) told a crowd in Boston on Tuesday rallying in solidarity for Wisconsin union members.
Head-busting union goons — like the SEIU thugs who …

Palin Derangement Syndrome Prevents Bristol’s Appearance at University
  28 Jan 2011     11:19 am

Nothing says “academic freedom” like kowtowing to a few hundred students who signed up for an anti-Palin Facebook page:
Anger over a decision to pay Bristol Palin several thousand dollars in student fees to talk to Washington University students about abstinence led to a decision Thursday night to nix Palin’s appearance on a panel here next month.
Washington University’s Student Health Advisory Committee had extended an invitation to Palin, a spokeswoman to prevent teen pregnancy, to speak on abstinence as part of the university’s Student Sexual Responsibility Week. . . .
A Facebook …

Jared Loughner: Reefer Madness?
  18 Jan 2011     10:05 am

The Tucson massacre provides arch-Tory Peter Hitchens an excuse to stick his thumb in the eye of libertarians:
The most likely cause is Loughner’s daily cannabis-smoking habit. The link between this drug and serious mental illness grows clearer every day. Wickedly, the dope lobby still tries to deny this and seeks to legalise it.
Loughner has been, for much of his short life, a habitual smoker of this so-called ‘soft’ organic drug. This is not in doubt. Police records, the testimony of U.S. army recruiters who rejected him partly on these grounds, …

Jared Loughner’s Zeitgeist Obsession:
‘He Wanted to Watch It All the Time’

  16 Jan 2011     5:36 pm

Kudos to the Arizona Republic for this follow-up reporting:
Loughner began fixating on a documentary: “Zeitgeist: The Movie.”
The movie is a bramble of conspiracy theories involving Sept. 11, the international monetary system, and Christianity.
“There are people guiding your life and you don’t even know it,” the trailer for the movie intones.
“He wanted to watch it all the time,” Osler said. “It was cool at first. But then it got weird. It was all he wanted to do.”
Loughner developed a seeming obsession with currency, grammar and literacy rates. They were becoming the …
