Is your cell phone illegal? Meet the 25-year old who’s trying to change that
  16 Mar 2013     5:11 pm

In January, the 113th Congress was sworn in. That same day, Derek Khanna, a staffer for the Republican Study Committee, was terminated because he authored a memo certain lobbyists didn’t like.
Whether one agrees with Khanna’s position on copyright reform or not, the situation surrounding it all was controversial. The presence of lobbyists, the approval of the memo by the RSC chain-of-command, and other factors all played into why Khanna was released from his position.
Since then, he has been busy. Despite only being in his mid-twenties, he has presented to a …

Ah, the fallacy of the Clinton-era tax rates
  28 Nov 2012     9:53 am

As the “fiscal cliff” gets closer, Democrats are continuing their argument that a higher tax rate on the wealthy will bring back the good old days under President Clinton. As I outlined yesterday afternoon for the Tea Party Patriots, however, this comparison has a number of major flaws and fallacies:
First, the simple fact is that President Clinton spent much less than President Obama. While the Fiscal Year 2012 numbers are not out yet, some perspective is available: the federal budget went up by 60% in inflation-adjusted 2010 dollars between 2001 …

This Week’s (Fiscal) Sign of the Apocalypse
  21 Nov 2012     12:35 pm

When I first came to Washington in 2008, I was told that the American people are instinctively conservative, but functionally liberal, which was why a public that wanted budget cuts refused to touch the major costs in the federal government. This is a sentiment I have heard many times since, but back then it was a new way of thinking about selling political policy to the public.
Well, a new poll shows this hasn’t changed in the last four years, at least not for Obama voters. From Suzy Khimm at The …

A retraction: Gay Republican staffer recants his claim of being assaulted
  30 Oct 2012     8:14 am

Last week, I reported on The Daily Caller that Kyle Wood, a gay Republican campaign volunteer, claimed he was hospitalized for his sexuality and political activism. Yesterday evening, however, Kyle recanted his story, according to Madison police. According to The Daily Page, Wood recanted after concerns were raised by police about threatening texts Wood claimed were from the partner of the opponent of the congressional candidate for whom Wood volunteers. The Daily Page reports that Captain Joe Balles of the South District Madison Police Department says the texts never took …

Gay Republican assaulted for political activism
  25 Oct 2012     10:41 am

This morning, Daily Caller was kind enough to publish an article I wrote about a vicious assault done to Kyle Wood, a gay volunteer for a Republican campaign in Wisconsin. Kyle ended up in the hospital:
Kyle Wood, a full-time volunteer working for GOP House candidate Chad Lee, was hospitalized for injuries suffered during what he said was an assault at his home.
Wood told The Daily Caller that vandalism preceding the assault, along with his attacker’s statements during the incident, suggested his sexual orientation and his politics each played a role.
“I …

14 of the most egregious lies, policies, and law-breaking activities of this Administration
  4 Oct 2012     9:46 am

With the first of three Presidential General Election debates having taken place last night, it seems like a good time to remind the American people of some of the worst aspects of the Obama Administration. But rather than focus just on the policy aspects of what President Obama has signed into law, this piece will look at some of the many political manipulations and lies made since January 20, 2009.
Below is merely a partial list compiled by and researched by me and political activist and author A. E. Duzett. Enjoy.

Where’s the leadership on Social Security?
  22 Sep 2012     8:07 am

In 2010, the Social Security Trustees Report said Social Security would be able to fulfill all current obligations until 2036.  In 2011, that estimate was bumped to 2035, and this year it was changed to 2033.  Clearly, the program must be reformed, yet many Washington politicians think like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), who said in January 2011 that “Social Security is a program that works and is fully funded for the next 40 years” and that “the arithmetic on Social Security works.”
Any politician who thinks Social Security “works” …

Is the farm bill worth passing?
  21 Sep 2012     3:32 pm

This week, a number of House Republicans and House Democrats are trying to force action on the so-called “farm bill” the House Agriculture Committee passed in July. The bill, which includes billions in direct farm subsidies, will cost $100 billion per year for five years if made into law. Approximately 80% of that cost is related to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps.
The good thing is the farm bill appears to lack the support to get the votes necessary for passage through the House this …

Romney’s ’47 percent’ comments: Needed honesty or political gaffe?
  19 Sep 2012     8:30 am

Two days ago, liberal magazine Mother Jones released a video of Mitt Romney talking about the nearly 50 percent of Americans who are dependent on the federal government for at least some of their income. Romney also talked about the 47 percent of Americans who pay no individual income taxes. His conclusion in the video — which Mother Jones took secretly at a fundraiser several months ago — was that he was never going to win the votes of those people, since his message is about low taxes and …

A lesson in Washington campaign tactics
  14 Sep 2012     10:39 am

Of the four or five regular magazines and newspapers read on Capitol Hill every day, Politico is probably the least policy-focused, and the one that places the most value on entertainment and drama. However, sometimes that reporting focuses on the biggest drama in Washington – elections – and a new article on Politico’s website outlines an important yet subtle distinction between actions on Capitol Hill designed to do what’s actually good for the country and what’s good for the Member’s re-election campaign.
Here are a few examples highlighted by Politico:
Rep. Michael …

The 2013 political courage test: Will Congress stand with the people?
  12 Sep 2012     9:37 am

On Thursday, the House of Representatives is expected to pass a six-month Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through March 2013. The CR is expected to gain bipartisan support, and will fund the government at the levels dictated by the Budget Control Act (BCA). The Senate may pass it as soon as next week.
Unfortunately, the CR does not defund the President’s health care law either in part or full. As such, Tea Party Patriots co-founder and National Coordinator Jenny Beth Martin is calling upon conservatives in Congress and …

Is PolitiFact now campaigning for the President?
  18 Aug 2012     8:04 pm

Recently, the fact-checking organizations PolitiFact.com and FactCheck.org failed to properly analyze an ad by President Obama claiming that Mitt Romney pays a lower tax rate than the average American. Just Facts President Jim Agresti and I subsequently hammered both organizations for what appears to be a severe case of intellectual dishonesty.
Unfortunately, this is an increasingly common problem at PolitiFact. Conservatives rightly point to a liberal bent at Fact Check, but the organization is pretty solid at analyzing what’s going on with claims by members of both major political parties. On …

Media Bias 101: Paul Ryan & Abortion
  16 Aug 2012     12:01 am

With the announcement of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as the running mate of Mitt Romney, the Obama campaign and its liberal media counterparts have been churning out opposition research on Ryan. Unfortunately, this has now moved from the outright liberal media into the mainstream media, as highlighted by an articlethis morning by CBS reporter Stephanie Condon that looked at the abortion stance of Ryan. While the article initially appears objective by quoting groups on both sides of the issue, as well as both Presidential campaigns, its loaded and manipulative language …

Ryan VP pick should not be cut and dried for conservatives
  11 Aug 2012     3:38 pm

Over the last few months I have ticked off a number of people by writing that Mitt Romney may not earn my vote in November. With Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) now on the ticket as the nominee for Vice President, I am now far more open to supporting Romney than I was one week ago. Picking Ryan shows a significant amount of political courage and risk-taking, since Democrats and liberals will obviously declare both men want to throw Grandma off of a cliff. With Ryan on the ticket, though, the …

On the ground with Tea Party Express in support of Ted Cruz
  25 Jul 2012     2:26 pm

For the next week I’ll be down in Dallas and other parts of Texas with the Tea Party Express (TPE) on a week-long junket/bus tour/mobile phone bank to help GOP Senate candidate Ted Cruz pull off the victory formerly known as improbable against the Texas GOP establishment . I’m hanging out with people like former Reagan staffer Sal Russo, who founded the Tea Party Express, and hopefully will get to rub elbows with Senators DeMint, Paul and Lee later this week — as well as other famous conservatives — as …

Obama’s “tax return” graph is half-true
  23 Jul 2012     11:48 am

On July 18, the Obama campaign’s “Truth Team” released a Facebook table comparing the number of “years for which President Obama and Mitt Romney have released their tax returns.” According to the table, which is directly below, the President has released for all of the last 12 years, and Romney for only one, 2010.

This graph is factually inaccurate. As reported by ABC News and practically every other political and news organization in the country in January, Romney released both his full 2010 and preliminary 2011 taxes for public viewing. While …

America wants adults in Congress – instead, we have Harry Reid
  12 Jul 2012     12:26 pm

In January 2011, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) declared that Social Security is in fine shape. A few days past 18 months later, and with disturbing new information about the truly bleak future of Social Security, Reid has not publicly adjusted his statement, nor do I expect he plans to. This is not the only area where Reid has been complicit in an abdication of duty, however – on Tuesday National Journal reported that the nation’s top Senator is going to kick the can down the road again when …

Obama & His Donors
  11 Jul 2012     9:48 am

On Thursday, the Romney campaign announced that it had raised over $100 million in June, between the campaign, the Romney PAC, and the Republican National Committee. On Monday came news that the President, for the second month in a row, has been outraised by Romney quite handily – and Romney’s campaign had over 500,000 donors to boot.
This all comes less than two weeks after President Obama was busted making a call to donors from Air Force One. The President, who “uses a non-taxpayer-funded phone for political calls from the plane,” …

The President’s nifty new tax proposal just stinks — politically and mathematically
  9 Jul 2012     9:18 am

Today, according to Fox News, the President will make a speech that includes a proposal to raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 per year. Fox says Obama will make the pitch on the grounds of “tax fairness.”
While the effect of this tax warfare strategy for the President during the rest of his re-election campaign is unknown, it does put him in a bit of a tight spot with Congress. As the Wall Street Journal noted this morning, a number of Senate Democrats have gone on the record either …

Is the individual mandate a penalty or a tax? Washington doesn’t seem to know
  7 Jul 2012     2:19 pm

Since the Supreme Court ruled the individual mandate is a tax, the various Washington-based interests have pulled out all of the political stops in order to convince the American people that it’s a tax, unless it’s a penalty, in which case it’s a fine.
Want to know for certain? Ask the 2009 version of President Obama, who said it is most certainly not a tax. Or you could ask the Administration’s lawyers, who argued it is a tax when they argued for its legality in front of the Supreme Court. When …
