Will Tyranny Ever Come to America?
8 May 2013
12:02 am
Last week, President Obama traveled to Ohio to speak at the Ohio State University commencement. There, he trotted out his new favorite line of attack against Second Amendment advocates: He said it is unpatriotic to believe in the possibility of government tyranny. Why? According to Obama, the Founding Fathers created our government. The American dream and American government are one and the same. By definition then, believing in the possibility of government tyranny means opposing the Founding Fathers and the American dream.
Here’s how Obama expressed this nasty notion. He said …

Is America Nasty and Homophobic?
1 May 2013
12:02 am
On Monday, former Washington Wizards center Jason Collins revealed to the world that he is gay, prompting a complete media meltdown. Collins appeared on Good Morning America; he made the cover of Sports Illustrated; he became the lead on Huffington Post. The president of the United States congratulated him at a press conference, and the former president of the United States congratulated him via Twitter. So did the first lady, the commissioner of the National Basketball Association and a bevy of pundits and athletes across the spectrum.
Which leaves one question: …

The Boston Marathon Bombing and the Dangers of a Bored Society
24 Apr 2013
12:02 am
The American public now knows the identity of the Boston marathon bombing suspects. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was a former boxer and Chechnyan immigrant, radicalized in the United States by an Islamist mentor. He turned against the West in liberal Cambridge, Mass. His younger brother, Dzhokhar, 19, was a pot-loving college student at the University of Massachusetts.
Last Friday, Tamerlan was killed during a shootout with police after his brother reportedly ran him over with a car. Dzhokhar was captured hours later hiding in a boat. Few who knew Tamerlan seemed surprised …

The Boston Bombing and the Nature of Evil
17 Apr 2013
12:02 am
In the aftermath of the murderous terrorist attacks on the Boston Marathon this week, commentators across the landscape have rightly praised the heroic first responders and police, the civilians who ran to help and the civilians who ran to give blood. Many have also suggested that the presence of these heroes shows that America will never give in to evil, that the presence of good in our world outweighs the presence of evil.
Nothing could be more wrongheaded.
Everyday good will generally outweigh everyday evil. Finding people to respond with goodness to …

California Considers Mandated Insurance for ‘Gay Infertility’
11 Apr 2013
12:02 am
For decades, members of the left have insisted that the right is fighting a war on science. But when it comes to the issues of abortion and homosexuality, it is the left that fights a consistent and ridiculous war with reality.
This week, Wesley Smith of the Weekly Standard reported that California would be considering AB 460, a bill that would mandate group insurance coverage for so-called gay and lesbian “infertility.” What in the world does that bizarre phrase mean? It doesn’t mean situations in which two members of a lesbian …

Obama: Constitution ‘Constrains’ Me
4 Apr 2013
12:02 am
In his pursuit of overarching gun control legislation in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre, President Barack Obama has been dogged. He’s been relentless. He’s been demagogic, too, whether flanking himself with schoolchildren (the implication being that his political opponents don’t care about dead kids) or suggesting that if just one life can be saved by his legislation, we ought to buy into it wholeheartedly (a proposition that would justify almost any sort of government overreach).
But on Wednesday, President Obama took his gun control push a step further: He …

Our Black-Robed Rulers
29 Mar 2013
12:09 am
The farce that is the Supreme Court of the United States has now taken up a new cause: same-sex marriage. To push that cause, the anti-Constitutional members of the Supreme Court prepared to declare that the federal government cannot define marriage for the purpose of federal benefits under the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This is the same Supreme Court that declared last year that the federal government (SET ITAL) can (END ITAL) force individuals to buy health insurance. To simplify, then: The federal government can’t define how federal cash …

To Save Traditional Marriage, End State Involvement in Marriage
20 Mar 2013
12:02 am
Within the next few months, Justice Anthony Kennedy will likely rule that same-sex marriage is mandated by the Constitution of the United States. The ruling will offend both common sense and Constitutional law. But it will nonetheless become the law of the land. With it, states will be forced to recognize same-sex marriages; same-sex marriage will enter the public school lexicon; religious institutions will be forced to recognize same-sex marriages or lose their tax-exempt status. Religious Americans will be forced into violating their beliefs or facing legal consequences by the …

What Can Israel Do?
13 Mar 2013
12:02 am
When Israel took action against Hamas in the Gaza Strip last year, the world media did its damndest to try to paint the Jewish state as a human rights violator. One of their chief cards in this effort was a photo of BBC video editor Jehad Misharawi holding his son Omar’s body. Supposedly Omar had been killed in an Israeli missile strike.
The picture quickly went viral. The Washington Post ran with the story. The BBC suggested that Israel was responsible for the death. BBC Middle East bureau chief Paul Danahar …

The Malicious President Tries to Make America Pay
6 Mar 2013
12:02 am
For years, conservatives have been split on whether President Barack Obama is incompetent or whether he is malicious. Mitt Romney ably made the argument for incompetence during the 2012 election cycle, when he stated that President Obama was —. Romney’s view symbolized the majority view on the issue.
Until now.
With the advent of sequestration, it is now clear that President Obama is willing to throw Americans under the bus in pursuit of his vision of a transformed America. He is more than content to break eggs to make his utopian omelet. …

How Obama Wins
27 Feb 2013
12:02 am
President Obama is one of the great political knife-fighters in modern history. He is a failed president — his economy is bleak, his foreign policy bleaker, his vision for American even bleaker still. But he wins.
He wins by losing.
President Obama has only had two major policy victories during his tenure: the stimulus package and Obamacare. Both are massively unpopular. The stimulus package launched the tea party movement. Obamacare led to the Republican wipeout of 2010.
Then Obama began to lose. He wasn’t able to push forward climate change legislation or immigration …

The Curious Case of the Uncurious Media
20 Feb 2013
12:02 am
Over President’s Day weekend, President Barack Obama took off for a mini-vacation in Florida. There, he participated in golf lessons with professional coach Butch Harmon — Harmon normally charges $1,000 per hour, and Obama spent 8 hours with him — and then he took to the links with disgraced golf icon Tiger Woods. The press was not allowed to cover any of this first-hand.
And that made them fighting mad. Politico’s Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen commented, “Barack Obama is a master at limiting, shaping and manipulating media coverage of himself …

Did the Left Create Chris Dorner?
15 Feb 2013
12:02 am
Last week, former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner went on a murderous rampage throughout Southern California, shooting seven people, including five members of law enforcement, killing three. Before he went on his spree, Dorner wrote a manifesto praising liberal policies on gun control, media personages including Piers Morgan and Chris Matthews and politicians including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
But the bulk of Dorner’s manifesto centered on his hatred for the police department from which he had been fired in 2009. He claimed in the manifesto that the LAPD “has not changed …

Rove Vs. the Tea Party
6 Feb 2013
12:02 am
During the 2012 election cycle, Tea Partiers were told by their supposed betters that their ignorance of everyday politics meant that they should take a back seat to the Republican Party establishment. Brandishing the so-called Buckley Rule with quasi-religious fervor — the notion that Republicans should run the most conservative candidate who can win — the establishment GOP proclaimed that the only presidential candidate who could win was Republican Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. They suggested that four-term former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson was a shoe-in for the Senate. They explained that …

Obama Demagogues Immigration
30 Jan 2013
12:02 am
President Obama is a uniquely gifted demagogue. An orator of unparalleled skill supported by a gushing media, Obama has yet to present a major policy proposal geared toward solving specific problems. But he has won elections. And he has done so by implying — over and over and over again — that his opponents are morally deficient.
It is truly astonishing just how thin President Barack Obama’s playbook is. Since his re-election, Obama has boiled down that playbook to one play, which he runs with the regularity of a team quarterbacked …

Obama’s Orwellian Inaugural Address
23 Jan 2013
12:02 am
On Monday, President Barack Obama delivered a monumental address to the nation. It wasn’t monumental in terms of rhetoric — in fact, it wasn’t even memorable. It was monumental because it signaled for the first time just how grand Obama’s ambitions for the left are. No longer is the left content to wage a war against Constitutional principles on behalf of a Marxist philosophical system. Now they will attempt to convince the American people that Constitutional principles dictate Marxism.
Obama opened his address by quoting the Declaration of Independence: “life, liberty …

Standing on the Graves of Sandy Hook
17 Jan 2013
12:02 am
Last week, I appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.” For the past few weeks, Morgan had been inviting gun rights defenders ranging from the reasonable to the nutty, and then slamming them by appealing to the memory of the children slain at Sandy Hook. And when I appeared with Morgan, that’s precisely what I told him: “What you tend to do is you tend to demonize people who differ from you politically by standing on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook, saying they don’t seem to care enough …

Leftist America: Obama Opponents ‘A–Holes’
9 Jan 2013
12:02 am
This week’s column is brought to you by the word “a–holes.” It’s one of the left’s favorite words these days, fond as they are of shutting down the debate and casting their political opponents out like lepers.
Take, for example, the website Gawker. The website is liberal. And as liberal Obama backers, they feel the necessity not only to support the Obama agenda, but also silence those on the other side through bully tactics. Hence their decision this week to publish a full list of all the registered gun owners in …

Obama’s Thug America
2 Jan 2013
12:02 am
Progressivism in America has always been a thuggish ideology. It rests on the notion that laws require no evidence to support their implementation, that intentions are all that matter and that those who oppose “change” of the sort progressives like are morally deficient. Progressivism requires Americans to separate off certain groups in American life as evil — the rich (“greedy!”), gun owners (“hooligans!”), traditionally religious people (“sexists!”), Constitutional government advocates (“bigots!”). It requires that certain Americans be cast as good — racial and ethnic minorities, low income earners and women …

The Bullying Left Exploits Sandy Hook
19 Dec 2012
12:02 am
The horror of the massacre of innocents at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. struck at the fabric of the American tapestry. Virtually every American has spent the last few days in a haze — shocked at the nature of evil, confused and frustrated by the inability to prevent such an atrocity, fearful at the possibility of such a monstrous occurrence repeating itself.
It is only natural in such times to discuss what we can do differently to prevent such things from happening. Nobody wants to see dead children, …
