Columbia Is Gone
Columbia Is Gone: I normally don't post on the week-end, but this is exceptional situation. As I'm sure all of you know, the Columbia "disintegrated in flames 200,000 feet above north central Texas today, killing all seven astronauts aboard."
The President spoke about the Columbia this afternoon and you can read the text of his remarks here.
Here is the end of the President's speech...
"In the skies today we saw destruction and tragedy. Yet farther than we can see there is comfort and hope. In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing."
The same Creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth; yet we can pray that all are safely home.
May God bless the grieving families, and may God continue to bless America."
Also, you might want to look at this thread on Free Republic. They had made a post to talk about watching the shuttle come in and they continued to post as things turned to tragedy.
I'll be back on Monday and by then there will be a lot more information about what happened this morning. In the interim, I'm sure the Drudge Report will do an excellent job of covering this calamity. Also, my condolences go out to the family & friends of all the people on the Columbia.

Welcome To The VRWC Dawn
Welcome To The VRWC Dawn: You know, if I were a Democrat, I'd find this post on Dawn Olsen's page disturbing. Why? Because, Dawn is talking about her recent "almost complete" conversion to Conservatism and juding by the comments, she's not alone. Here are a few excerpts from Dawn's post and from some of the comments...
Dawn Olsen: "Yes folks, it is true. The only calculated response by the Left is SHEER AND UTTER OUTRAGE. That is a pretty intense response to maintain to ALL THINGS THAT GLEAM OF REALITY. I can see it now, the liberals were sipping their sour grapes while listening to Bush's speech and instead of "listening" they were remarking on how the VP has no neck and the Speaker has no neck, what a bunch of fatties those two are. Oh wait, that was what I was saying. No what the Left heard was "blah, blah, blah, Taxes, blah, blah, blah, Destroy the Environment, blah, blah, blah WAR FOR OIL."
Gee, that's funny, cause what I heard was a man, who only 3 years ago I wanted to burn in effigy, give an excellently delivered speech that was both heartfelt, principled, passionate and sincere, but also RIGHT ON with what I think this country needs.
...those who live in a dream world are also the same ones who think that the Conservatives of this country are Evil incarnate. They hear nothing, they see nothing and worst of all THEY DO NOTHING.
Don't call me a liberal. You can call me a middle of the road conservative who was converted over time, BY LISTENING, READING, FILTERING ENDLESS PILES OF PROPAGANDA BY THE LEFT, and most of all watching the way the Conservatives conduct themselves, compared to the way the Liberals conduct themselves.
Hilary is pathetic. Lieberman is a talking head with NO ORIGINAL IDEAS OR IDEALS. I am fed up with the entire Democrat party. They are embarassing. Their behavior is outrageous. They all remind me of middle managers at the most mismanaged company on earth. Taking credit for what their subordinates did and then spoonfeeding bullsh*t to the upper tiers and ultimately looking out for one person: themselves.
I don't know what speech the Dems saw last night, but I can't wait to cast my vote in 2004."
Owen: "The scary part is that the Dems saw the public's rejection of their policies in the last election as a reason to re-emphasize those same policies.
Huh?
If they can't figure out a way to form a *positive* alternative to the Republican agenda without depending on outdated ideas that the American people are getting tired of rejecting every four years, there won't even be a Democratic party after 2004.
I've not had to vote R yet, but if they don't fix the party soon I can't see how I can avoid it next year."
Iron Fist: "Dawn, You are not alone. Just this evening I had a similar conversation with one of my fellow Instructors. He's a big dog in the Union at one of our larger Federal agencies in my area.
I said to him, "Look, I can understand why people have issues with the Republican Party. I'm not lockstep with them, myself. But the Dhimmicommies are freakin' crazy. They would rather have American cities gassed than the Republicans cut taxes."
His response was "You are absolutely right. I can't support that."
Harry: "I don't consider myself a conservative now, but I was once a liberal. I cried myself to sleep the night after Bobby Kennedy died. And I'd be a liberal again if somewhere, somehow, the Democrats could find a liberal with a functioning pair of balls. A liberal who understood that there are indeed evil ideas, institutions, and people in this world, and that to do good for people sometimes you have to be a bigger, meaner SOB than evil people.
...Today's liberals seem to need testosterone supplement therapy; it's as if they think you can stop someone from trying to kill you by being nice to them or that all problems are the result of "miscommunication" instead of very real differences in morality and ethics.
Don't get me wrong---people like Ashcroft make my skin crawl, and I don't think the definition of economic justice is when working single mothers who can't collect child support pay taxes at the same rate as Bill Gates. But the first obligation of any government is to keep the people safe from harm, and today's liberals simply lack the guts and realism to do the job.
If there was a realistic, tough-minded liberal out there---in other words, another JFK or RFK---he or she would have my vote in a second. But I don't want to trust the survival of my family or country to a bunch of limpid Mr. Rogers wannabes."
Court: "Good for you. I too used to have liberal leanings. But I got tired of never hearing a good argument from the left, only whining. That's what pushed me over to the right side.
I want to associate with people who can present a clear, competent argument that appeals to the brain, not a sob story intended to appeal to the heart.
There are a few lefties out there like that, but for the most part I see the good arguments coming from the right."
Michael S: "Dawn, I am with you 100%. I would still define myself as a liberal, maybe even capital L Liberal. But I don't see Al Sharpton representing the ideals I hoped for, I don't see Hillary Clinton's "race is character" stand taking us too far. I do know that any group who does not see that we are fighting for our lives is out of touch with reality. Before WWII there was legimate disagreement about America First. After Pearl Harbor Lindhberg and the others came in to fight the war 100%. We didn't argue about a Germany first policy even though it was Japan that attacked us. We destroyed fascism in those nations. I do not understand the attitudes of people in my community to have "It started here; end it here" bumper stickers. Let's end it there and end it good."
Cory: "Dawn, As someone who has voted nearly straight Democrat in the last two elections, I feel a strong understanding of where you are coming from. I'm tired of voting for a party simply because it is reflexivly anti-Republican. Living in California, I've seen how the party has continued to erode our freedoms in its zest for promoting equality for the "benefit" of the common weal.
If you give a living wage to someone who folds towels, does it give them an incentive to better themselves so they can eventually earn what they are worth? No. When you impose a mandatory percentage of cars that must be absolutely zero emissions even if it is economically unfeasible, does the public benefit? No. Time and again, I've seen how the Democratic party here seems hellbent on regulating us all into the slavery of absolute equality and I'm sick of it. What is even worse is that more and more, the national party seems the same way.
...Sadly, I feel that expecting such common sense from the Democratic party is becoming wishful thinking these days. Though I have to say, if I switch parties I'm going to have a b*tch of a time getting a gun rack into my Miata..."
That may be just one thread on one blog, but personally I think it's part of a larger trend. I guess we'll find out in 2004...
Islam Is Not Our Enemy
Islam Is Not Our Enemy: I am not pleased to read about this...
"At the Conservative Political Action Conference, which featured Vice President Cheney as its opening luncheon speaker yesterday, one of the various exhibition booths hawking paraphernalia had some virulently anti-Muslim vinyl bumper stickers, for $3.95, including one that said: "No Muslims -- No Terrorism.
Sources said an attendee at the group's 30th annual conference, at the Crystal City Marriott, called Cheney's office to complain and a Cheney aide called CPAC organizers to express "strong displeasure."
The booth operators removed the anti-Muslim stickers from the rack before Cheney spoke."
Here's another little example of the type of garbage this guy was displaying...
To begin with, I don't want to blow this out of proportion. It wasn't as if they were handing these stickers out at the door, it was just an irresponsible vendor selling them. Also, I'm glad to hear that Cheney had an aide call in to express his, "strong displeasure." That's exactly what I'd like to see the VP do in that situation.
That being said, it is embarrassing to see this sort of ridiculous anti-Muslim crap at a Conservative Political Action Conference, especially one that the VP is attending. I know it's just some goofball selling his little stickers, but how do you think Muslims are going to view this? Republicans control all three branches of government, the VP was in house, and this sort of thing was being sold. It just looks bad.
More importantly, the sentiments expressed on these stickers are absolutely WRONG. Now I'm not going give you the President's line about Islam being a "religion of peace." Bush has to say that because he's the POTUS and he needs to make it clear that we're not fighting a war against Islam. I know, and you know, that Islam as a whole is not a "religion of peace." All you have to do to figure that out is listen to all the psychopaths out there who claim they're slaughtering innocent people in the name of Islam. Those "Radical Islamists" and their strong supporters probably make up 10-15% of Islam. Furthermore, there are a lot of "moderate Muslims" out there who are at least sympathetic to Osama Bin Laden, Yassir Arafat, and their ilk.
All that's true, but it's also true that there are a lot of pro-American Muslims who are 100% opposed to terrorism, anti-semitism, and who are decent, honest, people. Yes, we don't hear from them enough, but there are plenty of them out there. Including the Muslims in this category with terrorists & their supporters is a serious error.
Last but not least, we have to remember that we're a country founded on religious freedom. That's a big part of the reason why our forefathers came to America and it's one of the great things about our country. We Americans should be the LAST people on earth to condemn a whole religion. That's just not our way, nor should it be.
Dissent In America? No Way!
Dissent In America? No Way!: Thanks to Tim Blair, Aussie blogger extraordinaire and former RWN interviewee for pointing out this delightful editorial by Aussie Mike Carlton. This may SHOCK you my friends, but it seems there are people in the United States who...I can hardly bring myself to say it...disagree with George Bush! I know, I know, I was STUNNED myself. Let me post a few excerpts from this SUPER SHOCKING, SHOCKFESTIVE, SHOCKORAMA of an editorial along with a few of my own comments.....
"One of quite a few libels being smeared around by the ratbag right at the moment is that anyone who questions George Bush's headlong rush to war is "anti-American."
I hear this sort of thing all the time from the left, but I have NEVER, not one single time, heard ANYONE say that questioning George Bush's agonizingly slow, glacier like, more than year long "rush to war" is "anti-American." But to be fair, this may simply may be a cultural misunderstanding. Perhaps the "ratbag right" is some Conservative splinter group in Australia that does this sort of thing as compared to "Koala Bear Conservatives" or the "Drop Bear right-wingers."
"It is the usual mindless conservatism recycled yet again from the Vietnam War years, "all the way with LBJ" tarted up for the new century."
Yes, I was just saying the other day, "Barry Goldwater, Ron Reagan, and Lyndon Johnson -- they're all Conservative icons!"
"Australian critics of US policy are ingrates who forget that General Douglas MacArthur was our saviour in 1942. We hate America and all its works. We would defy our great protector and trash the ANZUS treaty, leaving Australia defenceless against naked aggression from our north, blah blah."
I've certainly heard the old, "We saved Europe from the Nazis" line more times than I can count, but this is the first time I've heard, "MacArthur saved the Aussies in 1942." I'll have to remember that one though since we Americans only save people for 2 reasons 1) To steal their oil & 2) because we enjoy rubbing in the fact that we saved them! Now every time I talk to someone from Australia on ICQ, and they go, "Hey, how's the weather up there mate?", I can go, "You wouldn't be asking how the weather was if MacArthur hadn't saved your Aussie butts back in 1942! How do you like them apples?"
"This tosh conveniently ignores the fact that millions of Americans are also fearful of where Bush and his Texas oil cronies might be leading them. The artfully directed television pictures of the President's State of the Union message showed senators and representatives leaping to their feet in thunderous applause at about every third paragraph - bizarrely, it looked like nothing so much as a plenary session of the Chinese Communist Party - but in fact there is profound dissent in Washington and throughout the United States."
What?!?!? Profound dissent in Washington DC of all places? No, it just can't be.....
"Pretty much at random, I checked the websites of three prominent Democrat senators to get their take on the Bush speech."
Wait a second, you're telling me this dissent is coming from Democrats? Well that sounds highly suspect since the Democrats ALWAYS agree with the President on everything. I remember just the other day when Tom Daschle and Hilliary Clinton held a joint press conference just so they could speak in unison and say, "We agree with everything George Bush says...EVERY SINGLE THING! Vote Republican in 2004 -- they deserve it!"
"Senator Edward Kennedy (Massachusetts): "President Bush cannot expect the international community to salute America and march with us into war when the Administration has made no convincing case for war. He did not make a persuasive case that the threat is imminent and that war is the only alternative."
Kennedy must have watched a tape of the speech since he was sound asleep when the camera focused on him during the State of the Union.
"Senator Dianne Feinstein (California): "On Iraq, I fear that a unilateral attack by the United States will bring about the very events that we are trying to prevent. I believe that with arms inspectors on the ground, Iraq is essentially contained, and we should work with our allies to keep the pressure on Saddam Hussein - but we should not launch a unilateral, pre-emptive attack on Iraq at this time."
Oh no! When a rock-ribbed Conservative like Feinstein from a Republican stronghold like California disagrees with the President, that's a shocker!
"Senator Robert Byrd (West Virginia, and, at 86, the senior member of the Senate): "What concerns me greatly is that this President appears to place himself above the international mandates of the United Nations. President Bush has made the overthrow of Saddam Hussein a personal crusade, and in his zeal to pursue his goal, he has failed to make the case to the American people and to our allies abroad that the United Nations is dragging its feet, that war is the only option left, and that war cannot wait."
But Robert Byrd was so hawkish, so belligerent, so ready to fight...oh wait, that was in the Civil war! Ba-dump-bump..wait, you don't get it? See Byrd is an ex-KKK member and he's really old so I was implying that he would have fought against the North to keep slavery in the Civil War and...oh forget it.
"I think we can safely assume that none of that trio is anti-American, but as the drums of war grow louder such voices are barely heard, most especially in their homeland. The American media are avid for the missiles to start landing, slavering at the soaring newspaper circulation and TV ratings that war will bring."
Yes, we all know what kind of warmongers our American media is made up of. Just the other day I saw an editorial in the New York Times suggesting that we build, "a large pyramid made of human skulls in Iraq" and demanding that the Bush administration target Iraqi orphanages with daisy bombs, "just to show 'em we mean business."
Unfortunately, Carlton then started talking about Aussie politics instead of the war which meant that the fisking had to come to an end. But, if you ever want to know more about Aussie politics, then just message some Aussie on ICQ and say, "Hey, could tell me what's happening on the Aussie political scene nowadays? When they say, "Sure..to begin with the "jackaroo" party is pulling boomerangy, diddly do, on the bloomin...," cut them off in mid-sentence and say, "You wouldn't be having any elections if MacArthur hadn't saved you guys back in 1942!" That'll teach 'em!
;) Just kiddin' all you Aussies out there! Australia is right up there with Britain and Israel as far as I'm concerned. I knew you guys would be with us even back when we were hitting Afghanistan. This piece of satire called, "The War On Terrorism: Where Do Nations Stand proves it.
Whatever It Takes -- Never Again
Whatever It Takes -- Never Again: I wish all the anti-war protestors who are doing everything in their power to try to stop us from destroying the global terrorist network, had to read what you're about to read. It might make some of them a little less concerned about the rights of terrorists & tyrants and a lot more concerned about stopping another 9/11.
Some of the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 testified at an arraignment in Germany and their grief was still terrible to behold...
"I have watched my son die a hundred times - every time they show those takes of the towers falling," said Ms Molinaro, whose firefighter son Carl was last seen racing up the stairs of the World Trade Centre's north tower. "Even now, when I watch - and I always do - I lean towards the television and in my heart and my mind I scream, 'Run, Carl, run. This time you'll make it out'."
As she went on to say that she would never again hear her son say that he loved her, the German interpreter at her side choked on his words and came to a halt."
"...Deena Burnett, whose husband, Tom, led the revolt against the hijackers of flight 93 which crashed in Pennsylvania, gave much of her testimony fighting back tears. She described how her three children attached crayon drawings to helium-filled balloons "with the childish belief that an angel will carry them to Tom."
"...Perhaps the most harrowing testimony of all came in a broad New York accent from Maureen Fanning, a nurse and the widow of Captain Jack Fanning, the head of the city's Hazardous Materials Unit.
She recounted how his death left her to bring up two severely autistic sons, and how she had placed one of them in a home within six weeks of the attacks.
She was later approached by the director of the home who doubted that her son, Sean, understood what had happened and felt that he needed to be shown. She prepared a series of pictures, of which the last showed the twin towers engulfed in smoke.
With social workers hemming him in to prevent him from bolting, she "explained to Sean that Jack was hurt in the bad smoke.
"Sean screamed 'No' repeatedly as we all watched in tears. We did this twice to make certain Sean understood that Jack was not coming home again, and both times his reaction was the same as he screamed and cried, 'No'."
I don't care what it takes or who likes it and who doesn't, we should use any means necessary to destroy every terrorist group of global reach and every regime that supports them. No matter what we do, we can't guarantee that there won't be other terrorist attacks, attacks that may very well dwarf 9/11, but we owe it to the people that died on 9/11 and their families to do EVERYTHING within the limits of the Constitution to protect our people.

They May Not Be The Majority -- But They're Sure Not On The Fringes Either
They May Not Be The Majority -- But They're Sure Not On The Fringes Either: In the Democratic Underground Post I did today, Brian had this to say, "The people of DemocraticOnline are the fringes of society. Their opinions do not reflect any meaningful percentage of the US population. So, I have no clue why you insist on giving them even more publicity."
Jane from The Daily Rant (who's pretty cool...well...for a lefty anyway) has said similar things in past threads.
However, while the kooks I often feature from the Democratic Underground do not make up the majority of the left today, they aren't on "the fringes of society." These people make a significant chunk of the left today -- I'd even say there are a lot more of them than there are paleo-Conservatives on the right. I have that impression simply because there are so many wildly popular left-wing pages that regularly tout conspiracy theories, paranoia, & incendiary rhetoric that it's hard to come to any other conclusion. Let me just give you a few examples from some of the left-wing websites listed in my 100 Of The Most Popular Political Websites On The Net article...
#9 Indy Media -- Ranked 3,166: Busta: "It must now be told: the pigs are the jews' True Parents
"It has the cerebral cortex of a pig, and it revels in carnage." -"Doctor Who": "Weng Chiang""
Billder: "Biotech Deployed Against Activists In Florida ...Beware. These people are animals and there is no right or wrong, no fairness or intellect in their lives, they are criminals of the most devious sort.
Also be advised that most of the marijuana on the street in Florida is poisoned by law enforcement, who is redistributing seized pot from the 80's and 90's, AFTER it has been poisoned, as the next thrust against American Citizens in the War On Drugs, which is actually genocide, a war on the American people by their own government. the poison in the pot effects vision and is harnful in the long term, especially as concerns night vision"
#19 What Really Happened -- Ranked 7,562: 1/30/03 Schröder Remains Opposed To War On Iraq I predict a "terrorist" attack in Germany to change his mind.
"1/30/03 Bush, Berlusconi to Discuss Iraq Interesting timing, since Berlusconi is under pressure to step down over his corruption trial." Will Berlusconi be saved (and US access to Italian bases guaranteed) by a "terrorist" attack?
"1/30/03 Trinidadian Islamic group threatens to use chemical and biological weapons" Set-up.
"1/30/03 Black Box Voting" How US elections are stolen!
#22 The Democratic Underground -- Ranked 8,102: A few comments from one thread out of many that I could have picked from the DU forums...
ElementaryPenguin: "There really is this creepy anti-Christ vibe to the Smirk!! Sometime it feels like we're living in the movie "The Omen"!!"
TNOE: "There seems to be such a "rush" with this WH which really makes me wonder - they are going about things at an alarming pace and don't seem to even care what the people or the other countries are saying. They are pushing their agenda through at an alarming rate.
I has really started to make me wonder if the PlanetX theory is true for 5/15/03 especially given their haste and NASA going nuclear, Cheney building his underground bunker at the VP residence, etc.
I think we're in for something, whether a pole shift, PlanetX or whatever, but whatever it is, they know its coming and are picking up the pace to finialize their agenda."
#25 Counterpunch -- Ranked 11,021: From an editorial by William Hughes...
"Goldberg's article was a classic example, too, of pro-Zionist propaganda (a/k/a "ZionProp"). This is where a pundit covertly advances the Zionist cause on a controversial issue, without even mentioning Israel, or Zionism, or Ariel "The Butcher" Sharon by name. Goldberg is a master of this technique. Sometimes, he does it openly, like when he did a hatchet job on the Palestinian Chairman, Yasser Arafat (12/05/01). (I'm going to get to that rant in just a moment.) Goldberg knows the Zionist Cartel wants this war with Iraq. I suspect that is the real objective of his phony spiel of January 25th."
From an editorial about present day America and the flag by Philip A Farruggio...
"Go to the library, the "public" library that "they" wish to privatize, and get yourself some of the many documentary films of WWII. Check out the ones about Germany in the 30's and early 40's. Look at those myriads of flags seemingly all over the place. Check out the powerful rantings and ravings of the paperhanger. See how the masses "Zig Heiled" so "mesmorizingly obedient" to their Fatherland and their flag. Whoever said "history repeats itself" was a genius.
From an editorial by Kurt Nimmo...
"Bush didn't kill bin Laden because the Saudi is a CIA asset. Bin Laden was the "Pearl Harbor" the neocons have talked about now for years, well before Bush was elected (excuse me, appointed) to the presidency."
#56 Bartcop -- Ranked 40,939: In a plug for donations...
"They own the TV networks, the major papers and talk radio. The Internet Resistance is all we have."
Here's a quote from Kurt Vonnegut that made the front page...
"America has been taken over by means of the sleaziest, low-comedy, Keystone Cops-style coup d'etat imaginable. And those now in charge of the federal government are upper-crust C-students who know no history or geography, plus not-so-closeted white supremacists, aka "Christians..."
#59 The Smirking Chimp -- Ranked 46,858: From an editorial called the "The Imagined Empire" by Peter Lee...
"We live in an imagined empire.
Bush and Cheney and the neocon cabal dream of it, and strive indefatigably to realize it.
Its heartland shares the boundaries of our republic but is fundamentally different....
...(A)fter our constitution has been subverted in pursuit of power; when our democracy has been sacrificed to the demands of empire; and our economy has been consumed in the furnace of this war, the imagined empire will become real.
And we become subjects instead of citizens."
They're also running the Kurt Nimmo edtorial from Counterpunch that claims that, "Bush didn't kill bin Laden because the Saudi is a CIA asset. Bin Laden was the "Pearl Harbor" the neocons have talked about now for years, well before Bush was elected (excuse me, appointed) to the presidency."
Keep in mind, these are all POPULAR left-wing websites, not crackpots with 22 people a day reading their blogs. I could have added more material from the list, but there are only so many hours in a day. Moreover, I guarantee you I could go back to the exact same pages and find new material just as offensive as what I've just posted a week from now. All these pages post this sort of rubbish week in and week out or at least have users who do so. Now if this is just material from way out on the fringes -- how did it get to be so POPULAR?
Mandela Opens His Mouth And Inserts His Foot -- Again
Mandela Opens His Mouth And Inserts His Foot -- Again: Idiotarian Nelson Mandela has delivered another one of his hysterical & incoherent rants...
"if there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America."
Notice, he's not talking about the Bush administration there...it's America itself that's eeeevvvviiiilllll. After establishing his anti-American credentials early, Mandela goes on....
"Mandela said U.S. President George W. Bush covets the oil in Iraq "because Iraq produces 64 percent of the oil in the world. What Bush wants is to get hold of that oil."
As CNN points out, Iraq actually only supplies 5% of the world's oil and last time I looked, Iraq supplies roughly 2% of the total oil that the US uses in a year. I guess Mandela didn't have a lot of time to study up on statistics since he was too busy giving speeches, begging for aid, and watching his country go down the tubes.
"Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are "undermining" past work of the United Nations. "They do not care. Is it because the secretary-general of the United Nations is now a black man?"
I bet Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton must be kicking themselves right now for not already playing this angle. I can just hear Jackson now...
"After the Trent Lott affair, are the neo-confederates in the Bush administration going to allow the figurative lynching of the peace process because it's led by a black man like Kofi Annan? Bush wants to attack Iraq, but instead he should just list-en to the UN!"
Bit I digress...let's get back to Mandela's ramblings...
"(O)ne power with a president who has no foresight, who cannot think properly, is now wanting to plunge the world into a holocaust."
So Bush is about, "to plunge the world into a holocaust" by invading Iraq. Got that? However, according to the article....
"Mandela said he would support without reservation any action agreed upon by the United Nations against Iraq..."
So by that, I take it that Mandela would support "plung(ing) the world into a holocaust" as long as the UN approves =D And Bush is the one "who cannot think properly."
There's only one thing you can do with a clueless former head of state like Mandela....give him another Nobel Peace Prize! He'd make a fine follow-up to Jimmy Carter...
Ideology Vs. Politics On Medicare
Ideology Vs. Politics On Medicare: I didn't really mention this when I did the State of the Union review, but I am dead set against the new Medicare "reform" that Bush is promoting. At a time when we're already running a large deficit and when the war on terrorism is forcing us to spend more money than we otherwise would on security, intelligence, and the military, it's particularly irresponsible to push an insanely expensive new Medicare benefit that we all know is going to grow explosively in cost and scope over the next couple of decades.
So why is Bush putting this program forward and why are so many Conservatives supporting him? It's pure "third way" politics. Pushing this program takes a big issue away from the Democrats & it may once and for all help kill the Dem's shrill election time cries of, "The Republicans are going to take your Social Security away." Besides, those senior citizens have nothing better to do than vote en masse at election time and they'll remember this in 2004. Last but not least, blocking new spending or cutting programs is almost always a loser politically. That's because cutting or blocking new spending makes SPECIFIC groups of people angry with you, possibly very angry, while increasing spending and leaving pork in place makes SPECIFIC people happy and almost no one REALLY mad. Sure a few Libertarians and diehard Conservatives like me aren't going to be pleased with it, but what are we going to do, vote for John Kerry or Howard Dean in the next election?
The only hope I have is that the Democrats will block this plan just because they hate the idea of W. getting credit for it. But eventually, one way or the other, this plan is going to pass and we're going to be paying through the nose for it from here on out. Now if I were President, I'd fight the Democrats tooth and nail on this and I'd even veto it if that's what it took. But instead of doing that, W. is going to turn it around on the Dems and he's going to get credit for the program. Is that the Conservative thing to do? No...but it's the politically smart thing to do and it's the ability to do that sort of thing that separates the politicians from the pundits.
The Democratic Underground Thread Of The Day
The Democratic Underground Thread Of The Day: Ah, there's no better way to start the day than to read about what the whackos at the Democratic Underground are talking about. It's almost like some sort of bizarre version of the "Real World" featuring insane people who aren't alllowed to take their meds. Today, on the Democratic Underground, the paranoia is getting out of control in a thread called, "If things get Really Bad...what'll you do, and when?"...
AlienGirl: "If things get Really Bad...what'll you do, and when? This is a repost of something I posted in the Meeting Room, that I don't think got enough attention. I'd like to hear others' thoughts about what to do, and when, if things get Really Bad.
What to do, when to do it. My plan has always been to get out while there's time. I've had a bug-out bag packed and at the ready for years. I have a network of people ready to get out, ready to help me get out. If all else fails I'm arranging to have a safe place in the woods where (I hope) I could hole up.
And when? Recently I was talking to an expert in fascism and I asked her what signal to look for. She replied, "When dissenters are being rounded up, declared enemy combatants, and put in a parallel justice system." I said I wanted the signal that comes *just before* that one, and she suggested that the recent round-up of Middle Easterners in CA was that signal. So I've started sending out feelers along my network, to see what people are doing.
What point would I sock it in and kill myself? I'm not sure I would...I'm a writer, and I guess I see it as my duty to record what happens, *whatever* happens, so that future people will know.
(Now you know just how paranoid I am!)
Tucker"
Terwilliger: Stick it out, AlienGirl. We'll get to ya and bring you to the California Free Zone! In the meantime, stock up on dried fruit.
Dissenter: "Yes...stay anf fight. But not from your own home. That's the first place that they come for you. If you own guns...you're already on their sh*t list. They'll round up those things first...or you, whichever comes first."
(in another post in the thread) "The question is...Will you have TIME to get out of the cities. My theory is that when "it" happens it will be sudden and done in such a manner that it will trap 75-80% of the population in cities. That's all they need.
When it does happen, it will happen under the guise of a "terrorist" attack and thus martial law will be declared. Under martial law...if you are caught outside your house...you CAN be shot on site and therefore many people will freak out and not want to risk "running for the hills". As this happens, roadblocks and roaming patrols will ensue thus making escape risky. Note I said "risky" not impossible.
Now, if you have safe havens where you can flee too, that's good but you have to be there before the proverbial doodoo hits the fan. Its going to be rough and it will take determination to reach your safety point...not to mention getting any love ones to follow you...
Stay safe."
Tyler Durden: "My Bug-Out backup plan has been in place since 1972. I figured Nixon was the power elite's first attempt at declaring a Caesar, so since then I've had sleeping bags, medical kits, extra topical (and when I can get it, oral) antibiotics, mess kits, and weapons. As for where the hidey-hole is, that's my business; I'm not telling, but here's a hint: Red Maple Leaf. I've always figured that the time would come; history seems to insist on it, and the only thing I need will be a couple of day's dehydrated food and transport (the hidey-hole has non-freezable dry stuff).
If you find me, DO NOT attempt to charge the gate: I would definitely recommend against it. If we can let you in, we will.
"Paranoia is just life on a finer scale." "It's not whether or not you're paranoid, it's whether you're paranoid ENOUGH." (Two quotes from the EXCELLENT film, "Strange Days." Katherine Bigelow is one of my HEROES.)"
There's more of this sort of thing in the thread as well....

The French Oppressors
The French Oppressors: Tsk, tsk, tsk...what sort of unilateralist colonialism is France getting involved in down on the Ivory Coast? Just look at this picture....
It's obvious that these poor people are being victimized by French imperialism! They're so traumatized that they're even asking for help from the cowboy Yankee hegemons here in the US....
"Waving U.S. flags, the 6,000 people appealed to Washington to block the French-brokered power-sharing accord with rebels who control about half of Ivory Coast, once the economic engine of West Africa.
Cheering crowds mobbed the car of a few Americans who ventured out, chanting, "U.S.A.! U.S.A.!" and pleading for American support. Heavily armed U.S. soldiers looked on.
Organizers passed out lyrics of the "Star-Spangled Banner" for the crowd to sing. One protester carried a sign that read, "Our freedom is in your hands, U.S.A."
The U.S. State Department already has said it supports the accord and has urged both sides to comply with it. That stance appears not to have sunk in with the loyalists."
It's always tempting to laugh at the French's misfortune, but in all honesty their intentions seem to be good. They're just trying to bring peace to a country that looks as if it's getting ready to be torn apart by a civil war. But, as we've learned through decades hard earned experience here in the US, no good deed goes unpunished. The people you try to help don't appreciate it & half the time you get condemned for even making the effort. That's how the world works and if you wonder why so few countries are even willing to try to make a real difference, that's why. It takes "testicular fortitude" to keep on trying to help when you get it thrown back in your face and most countries aren't going to keep on making the effort after a few bad experiences.
***Update***: The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler has an update on the rapidly deteriorating situation on the Ivory Coast. Of course, he takes a few gratuitious shots at the French as well...
Giving Pigs Toys -- The Upside
Giving Pigs Toys -- The Upside: Oh geeze, it turns out that we in the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy have a lot of pig farms in Europe and we're going to have to comply with these stupid new rules that require us to give our pigs toys. But, as always, we've found a way to take advantage of the situation. Here's a rough draft of a new advertising campaign that the Mariah Carey clones we've put in charge of marketing came up with...
Mmmmm...doesn't that just make you want to find one of these playful little creatures so you can kill it and fry it up with some eggs and toast?
Giving A New Meaning To Government Pork
Giving A New Meaning To Government Pork: Oh boy, don't let the animal rights whackos in the US see this...
"FARMERS (in Britain) throughout the country have 90 days to put a toy in every pigsty or face up to three months in jail. The new ruling from Brussels, which is to become law in Britain next week, is to keep pigs happy and prevent them chewing each other.
Official instructions to farmers are to give pigs "environmental enrichment" by providing "manipulable material", which the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs last night defined as balls.
A spokesman said: "We mean footballs and basketballs. Farmers may also need to change the balls so the pigs don't get tired with the same one. Different colour ones will do. These rules are based on good welfare. We don't want to come across as the nanny state, but the important thing is to see pigs happy in their environment and they like to forage with their noses."
You know what the most grating thing about this for British farmers must be? It didn't even come from their own government, the bureaucrats at the EU came up with this idiocy =D I'd love to be a fly on the wall at one of those pig farms when a salty British farmer was told that he was going to have to give his pigs toys to play with...hahaha...
FDR & The Rattlesnakes Of The Ocean
FDR's Fireside Chat About Pre-Emptive Strikes: While I strongly disapprove of many of FDR's domestic policies, I have nothing but the highest regard for the way he led America in WW2.
Here are a few quotes from one of FDR's "fireside chats" about the Nazis and their indiscriminate submarine warfare that I think are VERY applicable to the war on terrorism we find ourselves enmeshed in today...
- "It would be unworthy of a great Nation to exaggerate an isolated incident, or to become inflamed by some one act of violence. But it would be inexcusable folly to minimize such incidents in the face of evidence which makes it clear that the incident is not isolated, but is part of a general plan."
- "There has now come a time when you and I must see the cold, inexorable necessity of saying to these inhuman, unrestrained seekers of world conquest and permanent world domination by the sword: "You seek to throw our children and our children's children into your form of terrorism and slavery. You have now attacked our own safety. You shall go no further."
- "One peaceful Nation after another has met disaster because each refused to look the Nazi danger squarely in the eye until it actually had them by the throat. The United States will not make that fatal mistake."
- "I assume that the German leaders are not deeply concerned, tonight or any other time, by what we Americans or the American Government say or publish about them. We cannot bring about the downfall of Nazism by the use of long-range invective. But when you see a rattlesnake poised to strike, you do not wait until he has struck before you crush him."
- "It is clear to all Americans that the time has come when the Americas themselves must now be defended. A continuation of attacks in our own waters, or in waters that could be used for further and greater attacks on us, will inevitably weaken our American ability to repel Hitlerism. Do not let us be Hairsplitters Let us not ask ourselves whether the Americas should begin to defend themselves after the first attack, or the fifth attack, or the tenth attack, or the twentieth attack."
- "The time for active defense is now. Do not let us split hairs. Let us not say: "We will only defend ourselves if the torpedo succeeds in getting home, or if the crew and the passengers are drowned." This is the time for prevention of attack."
Indeed, let us not be "hairsplitters." Now, "is the time for prevention of attack." The global terrorist network is a "rattlesnake poised to strike" and we should "crush him" before we experience a tragedy that makes 9/11 look like a birthday party.
Thanks to AMac for pointing this speech out in the comments section of a post on A Small Victory.
Saddam Hussein Takes His Love To Town By Ron Marr
Saddam Hussein Takes His Love To Town By Ron Marr: Deep down Mindy Lou realized that Billy Bob was the scum of the Earth. She knew her cheatin' husband hopped in his truck (which she had paid for) and took his love to town on every possible occasion. Over 12 years she had caught him in his lies a full 16 times. She'd caught him with her "friends." She'd caught him with her enemies. Still, Mindy Lou always gave Billy Bob just "one more chance."
"That lipstick on the collar and that flimsy nightie under the seat just isn't enough proof," she told her family. (Cont)

Observations About The State Of The Union Speech
The State Of The Union Speech: I watched the State of the Union speech and here's what struck me...
-- Did you catch Ted Kennedy snoozing? Hahahahah...
-- A great line to the people of Iraq, "Your enemy is not surrounding your country, your enemy is ruling your country."
-- I was a little surprised Bush spent so much time on AIDS in Africa. Of course, AIDS in Africa is a terrible thing, but it's not exactly one of the hot political topics of the day.
-- If Bush's tax cut is only for the rich then how can the following be the case, "This tax relief is for everyone who pays income taxes, and it will help our economy immediately. Ninety-two million Americans will keep this year an average of almost $1,100 more of their own money. A family of four with an income of $40,000 would see their federal income taxes fall from $1,178 to $45 per year."
-- I loved it when Fox focused on John Edwards' emotionless face when Bush talked about getting trial lawyers under control.
-- I think it was smart for Bush to say, "Tonight I'm proposing $1.2 billion in research funding so that America can lead the world in developing clean, hydrogen-powered automobiles." It goes right to investing in technology, supporting the environment, getting away from oil -- all areas that Bush is perceived to be weak on.
-- I'm glad Bush talked about 9/11 because we don't talk enough about it these days. We're all still walking in the shadow of 9/11 and will be for years to come. We shouldn't forget that.
-- "Across the Earth, America is feeding the hungry. More than 60 percent of international food aid comes as a gift from the people of the United States." Yeah, but the US is greedy, bad, evil, yada, yada, yada -- yeah right...
-- As I viewed it, this was a little dig at Clinton...
"Throughout the 1990s, the United States relied on a negotiated framework to keep North Korea from gaining nuclear weapons. We now know that that regime was deceiving the world and developing those weapons all along."
-- "All told, more than 3,000 suspected terrorists have been arrested in many countries.
And many others have met a different fate. Let's put it this way: They are no longer a problem to the United States and our friends and allies." Winning the war on terror by killing our enemies! Ya gotta love it!
-- Another nice line about the futility of the UN inspections, "The 108 U.N. inspectors....were not sent to conduct a scavenger hunt for hidden materials across a country the size of California. The job of the inspectors is to verify that Iraq's regime is disarming."
-- Bush explains why we cannot allow rogue regimes that cooperate with terrorists to have WMD, "Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other plans, this time armed by Saddam Hussein. It would take one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known. We will do everything in our power to make sure that that day never comes."
-- Another excellent quote, "Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike?"
-- I liked this as well, "Our war against terror is a contest of will in which perseverance is power. In the ruins of two towers, at the western wall of the Pentagon, on a field in Pennsylvania, this nation made a pledge, and we renew that pledge tonight: Whatever the duration of this struggle and whatever the difficulties, we will not permit the triumph of violence in the affairs of men; free people will set the course of history." Bush is not promising "easy," he's saying we're going prosecute the war on terror to the end even though it will be difficult.
-- This line gave me, "warm fuzzies", "In each case, the ambitions of Hitlerism, militarism and communism were defeated by the will of free peoples, by the strength of great alliances and by the might of the United States of America."
-- Again, Bush made it clear that we're going to hit Iraq with or without UN approval...
"America's purpose is more than to follow a process. It is to achieve a result: the end of terrible threats to the civilized world."
"Yet the course of this nation does not depend on the decisions of others."
-- As expected, Bush did not declare war. But, he did the up the rhetoric level and he made it pretty clear that the UN's last chance was going to be the negotiations that start on Feb 5th. Powell is going to talk to them and they're either going to agree to back us or they're not, but either way, we're going to declare hostilities after that.
The Democratic Underground Thread Of The Day
The Democratic Underground Thread Of The Day: If you want to see the left at it's most delusional & paranoid, you have only to look at this thread on the Democratic Underground. Here's the question that was asked...
ArkDem: "Who is most evil..Bush family or Hussein?"
Now let's see what some of the posters on this wildly popular, 22nd ranked, mainstream Democratic website had to say...
knowledgeispower: "Bush family better at it. So I guess you could say they are MORE evil, since they have are more capable of carrying out their evil plans."
DARK HISTORY: "The Bush family has a much darker history than you can imagine. Prescott Bush, granpappy to all, was in cohoots with the Nazi's. GB senior was responsible for many nasty dealings during his CIA directorship. And let's see, how many people did Christian-thou-shall-not-kill GW execute during his tenure as Texas Governor. Not to mention Laura's murderous hit and run...There are a lot of good books out there documenting the Bush family junta. They just shade their evil-doings in a much nicer veil. Call it - EVIL LIGHT."
all_hail_gwb: "No brainer! The Bush crime family."
revree: "Bush = EVIL. Bush family wins hands down. Killers, cheaters, liars all of them, except Barbara, who is sort of the black sheep. What's worse, they claim to be such good Christians. Jesus would puke, if he isn't already. Bushies are without a doubt the most dangerous family I can think of, and now I hear Jeb is being groomed for the presidency in 2008? GOD HELP US ONE AND ALL!!!!!!!!!"
ElementaryPenguin: "Excuse me, but I rank making money off of Auschwitz beyond Castro, Sadat, and the like, any time!! You listed lots of evil doers, to be sure - but I stand by my position - BCFEE - most evil since Hitler!! Keep in mind - the BCFEE is threatening to f*cking NUKE PEOPLE!!!!"
To the DU's credit, there were several people who vehemently disagreed with these kooks. However, those comments put all that "Hitler" & "fascist" rhetoric you hear people on the left toss around into context doesn't it? They're not just talking...they actually BELIEVE their own propaganda. Scary isn't it?
Eight Great Underrated Blogs
Eight Great Underrated Blogs: As most of our regular readers know, I'll make a list at the drop of a hat -- especially if it involves linking other blogs. So with that in mind here are the 10 most underrated blogs on the net in no particular order...
CrooooW Blog: I'm a big fan of CrooooW Blog's Instapundit like machine gun linking, but the man just doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Curmudgeonly & Skeptical: Roger Schultz mixes a biting sense of humor with nice graphics works...unfortunately, he's changing over to Movable Type so there's no update today. But, I'd recommend that you bookmark and wait =D
Fight Fire with Sapphire!: I wonder if people are getting the joke on this page? Personally, I think this blog is hilarious...
The Greatest Jeneration: Jen's blog has really improved a lot over the last few months and I think if she made a few more posts per day and got a little more publicity, she could be big, big I tell you!
Joanne Jacobs: Joanne Jacobs is probably the only blogger out there who regularly gets editorials published in big Conservative publications and yet gets minimal attention from the Blogosphere. She's a great writer, she updates regularly, and she's one of the best in the biz at writing about education issues. So where's the love?
Rantburg: This page does an excellent job of ferreting out news about the war on terrorism that other people miss.
Ravenwood's Universe: This is a strong little humor & politics website that has never gotten the attention it deserves.
Tacitus: Frequently updated and well written, Tacitus is an excellent read.
What Is Going To Appease The World
What Is Going To Appease The World?: I received an email today from someone named KuoYen Lo. It read...
"I am a high school student, currently enrolled in a U.S. government class and I was wondering if there was any way that the inspectors could actually find enough evidence to appease the world?
My take is that it always seems like from public opinion that they need to find an actual working bomb pointed at one direction in order to appease the world.
Any clarifications or input would be appreciated."
To begin with, there was NEVER any chance that the inspectors could actually disarm Iraq. You're talking about sending a few hundred people into a brutal & uncooperative police state that's roughly the size of California to look for small, easily movable biological and chemical weapons. The inspectors could run around Iraq for a hundred years without making a big dent in Saddam's WMD programs. And that's not even taking into account the fact that some of the weapons inspectors may be compromised or that Saddam has only allowed the inspectors into Iraq because Bush has threatened to use force.
So why were the inspectors sent in at all if they had no real chance of success? It's a delaying tactic, pure and simple. The hope is that this whole thing can be dragged out endlessly until the pro-war side loses momentum and gives up. That's why no evidence will ever be enough for the anti-war crowd. Heck, even if Hans Blix did find, "an actual working bomb pointed at one direction" it wouldn't make any difference. Then these same people who've been plugging inspections would simply switch tactics and demand that we take care of some other issue first. The inspections are all about obstructing the war, not disarming Saddam. Once you understand that, everything should make a lot more sense.
Frank Advice for Universities By Frank J.
Frank Advice for Universities By Frank J.: Duke Univeristy has invited invited Laura Whitehorn to speak on campus, originally billing her as a "political prisoner" even though she was in prison for the "political statement "of bombing the U.S. Capitol. And then the people who invited her acted so surprised at the controversy, because college professors are the dumbest people on God's green earth. Even a four-year-old would understand that a terrorist should be hung instead of being asked to talk, but that's beyond college professors. This is just yet another example of the total idiocy that comes from our universities. I wouldn't be surprised if I found a college professor who had come up with some high-falutin reason why trees don't actually exist and thus keeps walking into them.
Maybe it wouldn't be so much a problem if colleges were just a place to isolate this stupidity - somewhere they can protect their precious idiocy that would be torn to shreds by the world outside - but the problem is they like to spread their dumb ideas to the students. College kids usually have a low protein diet of nothing but Ramen noodles and thus are highly susceptible to brain washing. I myself did all right because I had an engineering major which didn't leave me time for being stupid, but all the philosophy and arts majors are not so lucky. Sure, most will grow out of the stupid ideas when they start having to pay taxes, but, for some, the idiocy they learn in college destroys them forever.
We've let this go on to long. There is no reason that people who teach history and English have to lack the common sense of the average muskrat. First thing we need to do is to storm the colleges and remove the liberal professors. They can probably be trained to do simple tasks such as sweep floors and test the effectiveness of pepper sprays. Also, they can be fitted with shock collars to "teach" them if they ever try to talk about politics. Some may say that is cruel, to which I say, "Yeah, that's the point."
Next, we can find good professors to take their places. People who love America, hate terrorists, want all Commies to be dead, and like to use guns to shoot bad people. New student standards can be set that will expel a student for being "too much of a hippy." Also, there can be a new mandatory class that all students must take that teaches them why America kicks ass. It can be taught by an angry Marine who will savagely beat anyone who says something bad about the 'ole U.S. of A. This will be an especially good class for foreign students.
Let's get to it. Our country's educational future depends on it.
If you liked this satire by Frank J. you can read more of his material at IMAO.

Does The Left Really Believe In The UN?
Does The Left Really Believe In The UN?: It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of the UN. In fact, I'll be the first one to tell you that I don't think that there is anything unethical about ignoring the UN's decisions . However, there are plenty of people on the left who'll tell you that it's critically important that we have the UN's approval to invade Iraq. These people will even tell you that it's immoral, that's right -- immoral for us to use military forces against Iraq without UN approval.
Well, I ran across an interesting question on that wildly popular bastion of the left, the Democratic Underground, that may allow us to see how sincere the left is about the UN's moral authority. Here it is...
David__77: "With UN approval, would you support military action? There is currently a divide among critics of the Bush war drive. Some remain opposed to military action against Iraq, regardless of what UN inspectors say, or what resolution is or is not passed by the UN Security Council. Others, including the leaders of Germany and France, have stated that war is the last, least desirable option, but an option nonetheless, presumably if "circumstances change."
If Hans Blix gave up on the possibility of progress via inspections, and the UN Security Council were to pass a resolution approving forceful, military measures, would you support such action, perhaps support it, or definitely oppose it? This is a valid question, especially if the momentum of the anti-war movement is not to be side-tracked by diplomatic or other setbacks."
Now I'll tell you that I approve of going through the UN if I think it's to our advantage, but I have no qualms about undercutting the UN or going our own way. So here's my question, "Do the people on the left who claim that going through the UN is essential actually feel the same way that I do? Do they demand that we go through the UN just because it suits their purposes (because the UN is often at odds with the US) or because they really believe that UN decisions are principled?
If these lefties at the Democratic Underground REALLY believe in the UN, wouldn't you think that they'd say that we SHOULD invade Iraq if the UN approves? Well, I combed the 60 posts that were in the thread at the time I wrote this post and here's the breakdown of the answers w/ indeterminate votes and double posts not counted...
Yes, I would support military action against Iraq with UN approval: 6
No, I do not support action in Iraq even if the UN approves: 35
Well, well, well...it looks as if both Liberals and Conservatives only believe in using the UN when it's convenient...but at least we Conservatives are honest about it.
Comic Strip Creator
Comic Strip Creator: A while back on A Small Victory I ran across a link to a page that allows you to create create your own comic strips. That appealed to me because every so often I get the urge to do a political cartoon, but I have absolutely no artistic skills. Well, I finally got a chance to try it out today and here's the result....
The Mexican Fifth Column By Tom DeWeese
The Mexican Fifth Column By Tom DeWeese: Illegal immigration is about much more than fighting terrorism. Illegal Mexicans are pouring across our borders and, as a result, American tax-paid services like education and healthcare are being pushed to the brink of collapse. Each new report of activities along our 2,000-mile border with Mexico appears to be more outrageous than the last. (Cont)

Miscellaneous: A few things...
- I'm adding a new form of advertising to RWN. If you'd like to have an 88x31 button in the support section for 1 MONTH, email me a 2kb or less button and put $10 in my account through the Paypal button. This is first come, first serve and I'm only going to put up 5 buttons. The amount is so low because this is the first time I've done it and I'm trying to gauge demand. We already have one taker, Thoseshirts.com. Give them a look as a thank-you for advertising on RWN.
- For all of you webmasters out there, can I give you a suggestion? Register your website at Daypop & Blogdex. There are three reasons to do that.
1) It'll probably get you at least some small amount of traffic.
2) These lists slant left and getting more Conservatives registered will help even out the slant.
3) Most importantly, if more webmasters who read RWN register, I'll get more articles listed on those pages =D
- I'm always looking for more forums to make fun of in RWN's ACPOTI section. If you know of any far out forums out there that I haven't covered yet, email me a URL and I'll check them out.
- RWN is always looking for more link trades. If you want to trade links with this page, just link RWN and ask for a trade. Unless I dislike your page or your page isn't regularly updated, I'll link you back. What have you got to lose?
A Pictorial Guide To The 'Axis Of Weasels'

A Pictorial Guide To The 'Axis Of Weasels': Last week, I put up Scott Ott's 'Axis of Weasels' article. Since then I'm sure many of you have wondered how you can tell a French weasel from a German weasel. Well, never fear, because RWN is here to help!
If you look to your left, you'll see the dreaded French weasel. This weasel can be distinguished by it's yellow belly which is usually only seen for mere moments before the French weasel turns and runs away. If the belly of the weasel is not visible because it's hiding in a hole or looking for a way to attack from behind, the distinctive odor of cheese will let you positively identify this species of weasel.
You'll also notice the frown on this shifty, little weasel's face. It's almost as if he's saying, "you stupid, simplistic American, you should wear a beret and collaborate with dictators as we, the French weasels do!"
Here we see a French weasel in combat ------------>
French weasels tend to be untrustworthy yet treacherous. Anyone who doesn't watch a French weasel closely is likely to soon feel a vicious bite on the back of his ankles.
This is the savage German weasel. It's face is contorted in a snarl of rage which usually means that it is seeking to intimidate other weasels into giving up part of their territory. Fortunately, this species was declawed long ago and now it's generally harmless. On the other hand, the German weasel has learned to use incessant whinging about the American eagle as a defense mechanism which makes it almost as insufferable as the French weasel.
If you run into either of these weasels in the wild, the best strategy is to simply ignore them. Some people may claim that the French weasels make nice pets, but many people have had bad experiences with them. That's because the French weasel will often try to turn all the other neighborhood animals against you even as it condemns your cultural imperialism for making it defecate in a litter box instead of on the floor. So take my advice my friend, if you see a French or German weasel, just keep on walking.
