Britain, Guns, And Poetry Writing Thugs

Britain, Guns, And Poetry Writing Thugs: In Britain, guns have been virtually banned.

So that means that makes everyone in Britain is safer right?

No, exactly. You see Britain is a real life example of that old slogan, "if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will own guns." According to the Online Sun,

"UP to two million guns are on the streets of Britain, official estimates say.

Weapons ranging from .22 rifles to machine guns are freely available on the black market."

So the criminals have guns and the law-abiding citizens don't. Luckily, the judges are really tough on those criminals...well not exactly. Take the case of career criminal Mark Patterson...

"A JUDGE was accused of madness last night for freeing a machete-wielding burglar because he writes poems.

Drug addict Mark Patterson, 42, has 31 convictions dating back to 1971 and has been charged with burglary ELEVEN times.

He admitted breaking into a neighbour's house while she was in hospital. But when Old Bailey Judge Simon Goldstein heard Patterson wanted to get off drugs and become a poet he chose not to lock him up.

He said: "I'm going to take a chance. You have talent."

...Judge Goldstein QC yesterday freed Patterson - who has been locked up a dozen times for crimes including burglary, heroin possession, assault and robbery - after hearing he was trying to kick drugs and get his verses published.

He said he hoped the poems would be a "path to salvation" and put Patterson on an 18-month drugs treatment and rehabilitation order.

The judge said his previous convictions were classic cases of offences committed under the influence of drugs or to get money to buy drugs.

...The judge insisted it was NOT in the public interest to jail Patterson.

He said at the Old Bailey: "I have to think of the public. If there is a chance homes will not be broken into in future, that's something we should strive to achieve.

"The motivation for you to succeed under this order is not only what the specialists can do but your absolute desire to try to make a success of your undoubted talent for writing poetry.

"You are already making useful contacts and intend to enrol in a proper course which will help you put into words the natural talent which you have for language."

With these sorts of gun laws and judges, is it any wonder that,

"(n)ewly released statistics reported October 13th show that since the British government passed one of the most stringent gun bans in the world in 1997, Britain's murder rate has risen to its highest level since records began being kept 100 years ago."

There except for the grace of God, the NRA, and 12 years of Reagan/Bush judges goes the United States.

Welcome To Dubai -- A Rapist's Paradise

Welcome To Dubai -- A Rapist's Paradise: Apparently Dubai has decided to enter the, "2003 Biggest Backwards Sharia law Hellhole on the Planet" contest. Of course, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, & Iran are tough competition, but can they do anything are bizarre -- and let's just call it what it is -- evil -- as this?

"A businesswoman who accused three men of gang rape has been arrested in Dubai and faces trial on charges of adultery.

Touria Tiouli, 39, from Limoges, in France, has had her passport confiscated and cannot leave Dubai after being charged under the emirate's Sharia law.

...Mme Tiouli was on a business trip last October when, she alleges, she was raped by three men who offered her a lift home from a nightclub.

She reported the attack immediately to the Dubai police, who after investigating her claim arrested her rather than those she accused.

One of the men admitted to having "consensual sex" with Mme Tiouli, which made her, in the eyes of Dubai's judiciary, guilty of both adultery and making a false rape accusation. She could face up to 18 months in prison. None of the men has been charged.

...The government has taken her passport and refused to let her leave the country until her trial, which has not yet been scheduled."

Hey Dubai, the 7th century called -- they want their Sharia law back. I also hope the French at least the cajones to do something about this instead of leaving this poor woman to twist in the wind in Dubai...

Mulder, Do You Want To Know The Truth About What They're Really Hiding?

Mulder, Do You Want To Know The Truth About What They're Really Hiding?: More email to your favorite Conservative blogger that sounds like it came from an unpublished episode of the X-Files...

"Listen, as a former top level intel. operative... you are playing into the hands of the false propaganda that the government wants you to do. Here's the deal, (coming from an expert, you better listen) The government does some really f*cked up things. They know some people know the truth. They don't care because they know the majority of people will protect them by saying it's not true, even if it really is. Believe me, I know, I use to help do it. If you only knew how many of our governing officials really don'f give a shit about this country and what they do behind our backs with our money. Believe me when I tell you, you are probably 100% right in most of your findings and the fact is, it sounds like the Nat'l Inquirer. Using some radio or talk show or local broadcast group doesn't cut it. Reach out to others like me who will listen to yo! u and add a little to your story. You can't run with the big dogs (the government), but you sure as hell can run the f*ckers off when there are 10 to 1 odds in your favor. Try a little research into some government field manuals from the Armed Forces. Trust me, you may find more than you are bargaining for.

Quiet Hawk"

Oh no! I published his handle! Run Quiet Hawk, before they send one of the super-soldiers after you! Once you get somewhere safe you can call Skinner -- he'll know what to do!

Pariah Against A Prophet

Pariah Against A Prophet: Despite his asinine political views, Noam Chomsky is considered to be a brilliant linguist by many people. But in fact, the ideas of Chomsky the linguist may be even more cockeyed than the ideas of Chomsky the political commentator.

Linguistics PhD Marc Miyake does a great job of explaining Chomsky's theories in an understandable way for the non-linguists among us. He then goes on to point out how Chomksy worship has ruined the study of linguistics in universities all across the United States. This isn't typically the sort of thing that I post on RWN, but it was an excellent read and it cuts Chomsky off at the knees which I always find entertaining...

Keep Talking Smart Guy And You Might End Up On Your Own

Keep Talking Smart Guy And You Might End Up On Your Own: Watching South Korean President-elect Roh Moo-hyun incessantly complain about the US is like seeing a drowning man who's thinking about throwing away his life preserver because he doesn't like the color. Here's the latest from our South Korean "allies"...

"President-elect Roh Moo-hyun, who takes office next month, voiced skepticism about the U.S. approach, telling a press conference Washington should discuss options with Seoul rather than decide on its own what steps to take.

"If the United States makes and announces a unilateral decision, and South Korea follows it, it can't be called real cooperation between the two countries," he said.

Roh campaigned for office last month on a platform that included calls to change the U.S.-Korean relationship from one of protector and protected, to that of equals."

Let me be clear about this -- we're not equals. We're the world's premier military power and we've guaranteeing South Korea's security. Not only do we have 37,000 men in South Korea, we're making a real effort to force North Korea to get rid of their nukes. Moreover, if that little nut Kim Jong-il were to send his massive army storming across the border we'd do whatever it took to defend South Korea from attack. That means we could spend upwards of 100 billion dollars and it could mean tens of thousands of American lives lost in combat. That's on top of the fact that South Korea is only free and prosperous today because more than 54,000 Americans gave their lives in the Korean War.

What has South Korea done for us in return? Sure they buy things from us, but so do a lot of countries. They also keep Japan and North Korea separated, but defending Japan from North Korea would be a lot easier than keeping North Korea from invading South Korea -- even if the North were able to defeat the South (which I don't believe they could even if we didn't get involved).

Someone in DC must be getting tired of all this mouthing off from Roh Moo-hyun because the Bush administration is apparently putting out the word behind the scenes that we're thinking about reducing the number of troops in South Korea...

"South Korean lawmakers Thursday planned to discuss concerns about a possible reduction of U.S. forces in their country.

South Korea's parliamentary intelligence committee would discuss recent reports about a cutback in the number of American troops "and map out measures to deal with it," the official Yonhap news agency reported.

...Meeting senior military officers earlier this week, Roh asked them how they'd cope if the U.S. reduced its force strength. He said he had heard that that possibility was once again on the table."

Yeah, it's all fun and games until the "ugly Americans" start talking about reducing their forces and making South Korea shoulder more of the burden for their own defense. Considering how the size of the North's army and how they cut through the South like a warm knife through butter before we got into the fighting in the Korean war, that would make me nervous if I were South Korean.

As far as I'm concerned, when North Korea gets rid of their WMD, it'll be time for us to start planning to pull out of South Korea. There aren't a lot of other people who share that view -- yet. But I predict that's going to change over the next year or so. Being left to the tender mercies of Kim Jong-il isn't a fate I'd wish on anyone. But, Roh Moo-hyun and all his anti-American supporters better get their acts together or they are going to learn what it's like to share a border with an aggressive dictator who commands a million man army, without the world's only super power backing them up.

Ask The Trial Lawyers Why Your Health Care Costs So Much

Ask The Trial Lawyers Why Your Health Care Costs So Much: Malpractice insurance has gotten so expensive in West Virginia that doctors at four hospitals are taking a one week leave of absence in protest...

"Almost all surgeries were canceled at four West Virginia hospitals beginning Wednesday as more than two dozen surgeons began a protest of the high cost of malpractice insurance.

In one hospital, 18 of the 19 orthopedic, cardiac and general surgeons are taking leave this week in protest. At least one patient was transferred 90 miles Wednesday to another hospital to have an operation.

A similar walkout was averted in Pennsylvania with a promise of a plan to trim the skyrocketing insurance costs.

...All four hospitals are keeping their emergency rooms open. But with the exception of plastic surgeons, they have almost no emergency surgeons available, meaning most patients will have to be transferred 90 miles away to Morgantown or to hospitals in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Gregory Saracco, 49, a general surgeon who started his leave Wednesday, said he had to borrow money twice last year to pay his $73,000 annual malpractice insurance bill -- $40,000 for a state plan and $33,000 to a private carrier. Those costs will go up next year to $100,000, he said."

When Conservatives correctly complain about how insane these costs are and demand tort reform we're told, "You don't care about the little guys. You're in favor of these rich doctors." The problem with this is that all of us pay these costs. In order for that "little guy" (and his trial lawyer) to make millions, the rest of us have to pay $4 for an aspirin so the doctors can afford their $100,000 a year malpractice insurance. No, these ridiculous rates for malpractice insurance aren't the only reason medical costs are so high, but they're a significant factor. I can only hope that the GOP controlled Congress pursues some serious tort reform this year because our health care professionals and the rest of us who pay medical bills need some relief.

***Update***: The wicked witch of the press core, Helen Thomas, has written a scathing editorial criticizing Bush because he plans to cap malpractice costs. Predictably, she attacked Bush for wanting to, "trample on the rights of citizens", she says these lawyers are, "are fighting for the consumer", and she describes attacks on trial lawyers as pleasing those from the, "consumer-be-damned school of corporate wrongdoing."

So which "consumers" are we talking about here? The consumer who makes millions, maybe even tens of millions of dollars off of a lawsuit (along with their lawyers), or the rest of us who end up paying for it? If 500,000 people pay an extra $20 each in medical costs so one person can get a $10 million dollar settlement, I'd say the consumers got screwed, not that they were being helped.

***Update #3***: From the comments section by RWN reader Fred Smith,

"You have no idea! As a doctor who teaches medical students, interns and residents, we often sit together and talk about how much cheaper (and better) we could treat our patients if we could treat them, like we would treat our own family. We would order fewer tests, prescribe a lot fewer medications, and suggest a whole lot less surgery. Why do we do all of these things? Because if we do the tests, give the medications, and suggest the surgery we won't get sued! It is sad but true! In addition we get consultations without number, most of which aren't needed because of lawyers! Get real tort reform instituted (which won't happen - we keep electing lawyers) and I promise you medical costs will fall by more than 50%!

By the same token, so would the cost of buying a car, groceries, or anything else. Talk to any small business man. Try to buy a small airplane. (I do not have one, by the way!) I have talked to a manufacturer, who told me that the cost of a private airplane had to be increased more than 100% due to legal costs. In almost EVERY case, when a plane crashes, the manufacturer is going to get sued! This entire industry has been almost destroyed by lawyers. Who is next?

Remember breast implants? (By the way, not the smartest idea anyone came up with.) They don't harm you, but tell that to Dow Corning. They went under due to law suits. Now their product has been scientifically proven to do no harm, but it is far too late for them. The lawyers did them in! The court system is fair? Again ask Dow Corning or O.J. Simpson. I know I'm preaching to the choir on this web site, but oh well.

A disgruntled doctor

PS You are right, we all pay this cost. Congress even figures that when the calculate what a doctor gets paid by Medicare 3 things are considered, the complexity of the procedure, his overhead, and his malpractice risk. (They want to be sure he can pay the lawyers!)"

Diversity, Multiculturalism, And Western Culture

Diversity, Multiculturalism, And Western Culture: Walter Williams, lays into some of the typical tripe that is practically passed off as doctrine at many colleges in the United States today...

"For the multiculturist-diversity crowd, culture, ideas, customs, arts and skills are a matter of racial membership where one has no more control over his culture than his race. That's a racist idea, but it's politically correct racism. It says that one's convictions, character and values are not determined by personal judgment and choices but genetically determined. In other words, as yesteryear's racists held: Race determines identity."

Here's another example to get across what Williams is saying. Let's say you take 10 Asian men, put them on a committee, and ask them to come up with ideas for a fund raiser. Then someone suggests replacing one of the Asian men with a Hispanic woman in order to create more "diversity." By making that change, did you the committee better or worse? The honest answer is that there's no way to know that based on nothing more than race. That's because race doesn't determine your, " culture, ideas, customs, arts and skills" nor should it. In fact, diversity based on race is worse than useless, it's actually harmful. That's because there are underlying stereotypes about how it works that are racist in and of themselves.

Williams then goes on to talk about another pillar of liberalism on campuses across the country -- multiculturalism...

"The multiculturists are right in saying that in a just society, people of all races and cultures should be equal in the eyes of the law. But their argument borders on idiocy when they argue that one culture cannot be judged superior to another and to do so is Eurocentrism. For them, different cultural values are morally equivalent. That's unbridled nonsense.

....Western values are superior to all others. Why? The indispensable achievement of the West was the concept of individual rights. It's the idea that individuals have certain inalienable rights and individuals do not exist to serve government but governments exist to protect these inalienable rights. It took until the 17th century for that idea to arrive on the scene and mostly through the works of English philosophers such as John Locke and David Hume."

American culture is not going to be improved by merging it with Palestinian culture, Pakistani culture, Mexican culture, Cuban culture, etc. It's just ridiculous on the face of it, like claiming that the Pee-Wee league champions of Green Bay could play the Packers to a standstill. That's why it's so important that America be a "melting pot" and not a "salad bowl." We don't need to learn from the cultures of people coming to the US, to the contrary, they need to absorb American culture. Some people will call that arrogant -- I call it obvious. I also agree with Williams' conclusion,

"Multiculturalism and diversity are a cancer on our society, and, ironically, with our tax dollars and charitable donations, we're feeding it."

Bill Frist -- Is He A Jerk For Saving Lives?

Bill Frist -- Is He A Jerk For Saving Lives?: Our new Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist, stopped to help some accident victims who were thrown from their vehicle yesterday...

"Capt. Ken Kronheim of the Broward County Fire and Rescue Department said Frist, a second-term Tennessee Republican, stopped to help six people ejected from their Isuzu sport utility vehicle when it rolled over after a tire blew out.

"He was instrumental in helping us sort out the critical patients," Kronheim told CNN

"He helped tremendously," Tammy Riddle, another Broward County emergency technician who responded to the scene, told ABC's "Good Morning America."

Capt. Jeffrey Andrews said he worked side by side with Frist to help one of the victims resume breathing, but did not recognize him until later."

My first thought after reading that was, "Wow, that's pretty impressive. I'm glad we have this guy running the show in the Senate." But, do you know what my second thought was? "I wonder if the people at the Democratic Underground will criticize Frist for this?" So I headed over to the Democratic Underground to look for venom aimed at Frist because he "helped tremendously" at the scene of an accident...

Glampuss: "Anyone here seen "The Contender"? $20 says this was staged."

(In another post in the thread) "If they can get away with killing Wellstone Two nobodies should be no sweat for KKKarl Rove and co."

bowens43: "IF it's true ( I doubt it) BFD the man is a freaking doctor. that's what doctors are supposed to do. Of course , being a republican it would be amaing if he did the right ."

Crisco: "The Contender" -- Sit down and watch that movie, then read this story again."

karlschneider: "I nominate him for "Emergenc y Surgeon General"....jesus, a couple years ago he supposedly rescued a Capitol cop who had been shot...??? WTF? This guy is really Superman. He miraculously appears whenever someone is injured....gimme a f*ckin' break.."

Caliphoto "It brings to mind the I Love Lucy show..
..you know, when Ricky Ricardo was being "discovered" in Hollywood? They kept setting up him up to "save" someone for publicity. I wonder, if you polled all medical people you know, how many have stopped and rendered aid. While it makes a nice, feel-good media story for Frist, it's by no means unusual. He's still a liar, a cat-torturer, and killer."

AngryWhiteLiberal: "It's SUPER FRIST! Thank God for Super Frist!

"Don't worry little lady, I'll save your baby from the burning building!" Exclaimed Super Frist, before his bounding into the sky.

"Boy! That Super Frist really is cool...hunh, Dad?" Said a young spectator boy.

"You betcha' son. Why I think Super Frist is swell...thank God, he's on OUR side." Winked the dad.

[INSERT PUKE HERE]"

So yes, not only can they criticize him for saving lives, but some of them even think he arranged the accident just so he could stop and render aid =D The Democratic Underground is such a goldmine of left-wing loopiness that I sometimes wonder if they deserve their own section...

***Update***: Two more notable comments from the DU on this subject...

LonghornLiberal: Black op must be suspected This is far too convenient and timely to be coincidence. Check the brake lines and steering linkage of the accident vehicle. And shove that freaking tin hat bull, I'm not a sheeple any more. Frist is a sociopath that needs to be exposed.

outinforce: "Another Case of LIHOP. It was the first thing I thought of. I mean, THINK ABOUT IT, people!

Who benefits from something like this? (Frist + GOP)

Who justm "happened" to be in Miami? (Frist)

No, no, people -- there are just too many facts here that point to the unassailable conclusion that Frist/GOP/BFEE Let It Happen On Purpose -- or that they MADE it happen on purpose!!!!

And, as far as the two people who died, what makes anyone think that this current evil regime would care about two -- or more -- people dying, as long as it furthered their evil intentions and designs.

Perhaps someone should start another thread on this"

***Update #2***: More from the DU

grasswire: "I agree that something's weird........and I don't know exactly what it is. But OBVIOUSLY the man is too valuable to humanity be spending his time as a senator. He needs to go back to his stated first love, medicine.

(Altho I wouldn't let him near anyone I love!)"

jsw_81: "Frist "just happened" to be on the scene during that Capitol shooting rampage a few years ago, too. "

demdem: "A movie called the contender Was about a senator who wanted to be vice president, so he set up an accident were he was supposed to save a lady from a drowning, therefore becoming a hero and being given the Vice presidency. Maybe Frist watched this movie too many times."

Quotes From The American Revolution

Quotes From The American Revolution: Our Founding Fathers don't get their due. Here they were, a bunch of ragtag rabble, organizing and going to war against the most powerful nation on earth. They were ill-prepared, had minimal supplies, and were plagued by "traitors" in their midst who sided with the British. Most of the world believed they didn't have a chance of defeating the British -- yet they persevered and against all odds -- they won. We're free today only because they paid a terrible price in blood. Every American should be familiar with the heroes of the American Revolution -- along with their quotes.

Thanks To RWN's Readers

Thanks To RWN's Readers: Since the year is almost over, I thought today would be a good time to say "thanks" to all of RWN's readers for helping the page grow.

Back in April of 2002, when I switched over to a blogging format, RWN only received 30,000 hits and averaged about 300 daily uniques per day. Just to show you how much RWN has grown, this month RWN has pulled over 238,000 hits and is averaging around 4200 daily uniques. A couple of big links from Fark helped inflate that total, but RWN has still grown by leaps and bounds this year.

RWN has also gotten some attention from some notable sources on the web this year. We've been mentioned and/or linked by several publications of note including in an editorial by David Frum in The Daily Telegraph, Soldier Of Fortune, The Wall Street Journal's Best Of The Web Today, The Corner, Andrew Sullivan's Daily Dish, The Online Telegram, and in an editorial by Glenn Reynolds on Tech Central Station. Couple those mentions with lots of links from the cream of the crop in the blogging world and with my being interviewed by Dawn Olsen and later by Laurence Simon and I've had a decent little year on the blogging circuit.

Thanks to all of RWN's readers who helped get the word out about the page -- especially whichever one of you sent me Michelle Malkin's "Invasion" (I just received it today). Your eyeballs, your emails to your friends, and spreading the word about the page has helped RWN grow quite a bit this year and I appreciate it.

Don't Hold Your Breath While You Wait To Get Drafted

Don't Hold Your Breath While You Wait To Get Drafted: Charles Rangel's call for a draft has gotten a lot of attention on the net, more than it probably deserves given the silly reasoning behind it. Here's Rangel's explanation of why he thinks we should have a draft...

"Rangel said the prospect of a draft would make Congress less likely to support a war.

"I believe that if those calling for war knew their children were more likely to be required to serve - and to be placed in harm's way - there would be more caution and a greater willingness to work with the international community in dealing with Iraq," Rangel wrote.

Military service should be a "shared sacrifice" asked of all able young Americans, he said, noting that minorities make up a "disproportionate number" of enlisted members of the military."

First of all, the idea that the Bush administration or Congress is cavalier about risking the lives of our soldiers is ridiculous. In the past 22 years, the US military has fought two major wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. They've also gone into combat in Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon (peacekeeping), Libya (bombing raid), & Haiti. Yet, despite all of that fighting, we've only lost roughly around a thousand men. That's because the people of the United States, from the average citizen all the way up to the Commander and Chief, are deeply concerned about the welfare of our men & women in the armed forces and insist on taking every precaution to insure their safety. For Rangel to act as if this were Europe in WW1, where politicians fed the youth of their nations into a sausage grinder while they sat far from the front eating caviar and daintily wiping their mouths with scented napkins is disingenuous at best.

Moreover, Rangel's implications that minorities are being treated unfairly because they, "make up a "disproportionate number" of enlisted members of the military" is similarly preposterous when you consider that we have an all volunteer force. In today's military, there are no poor kids getting drafted while the rich kids with connected parents find ways to keep them out of the fighting. So if there's a "disproportionate number" of minorities in the military, it's because they chose to enlist.

It goes without saying that Rangel's goofball proposal isn't going anywhere in Congress. But I have to ask -- is this the best the Democrats can come up with on the foreign policy front? A gimmicky and foolish idea to reinstitute the draft? We're in a brutal struggle against a global terrorist network and the nations that support it with millions of American lives riding on the outcome and the best thing the Democrats can come up with is to start up a draft that is in their own words aimed at making, "Congress less likely to support a war"? No wonder so many Americans don't believe the Democrats are serious about defending America...

The Eternal Nazi: Watching Roman Polanski's The Pianist in Germany

The Eternal Nazi: Watching Roman Polanski's The Pianist in Germany By William Grim: There's an old joke that says inside every German there's a Nazi yearning to get out. While a gross overstatement, there is, I'm unhappy to report, more than a little truth to that old chestnut. But more about that later.

Last week, I had the opportunity in Munich to attend a screening of Roman Polanski's new film The Pianist, a film that will not premiere in the United States for another month. This film is based on the true story of the Polish Jewish piano virtuoso Wladyslaw Szpilman, who survived the entire Nazi occupation of Warsaw hiding in the Ghetto and at times being hidden right under the noses of the Nazis in safe houses maintained by the Polish Resistance. Simply put, Polanski's film is a masterpiece. It is considerably better than Schindler's List and is undoubtedly the greatest Holocaust movie of all time. The Pianist has already won the Palm d'Or at Cannes. It deserves to win the Oscar. (Cont)

Fan Mail From The Left

Fan Mail From The Left: For your amusement, here are a couple of angry emails I received from furious lefties after my "The Twenty Most Annoying Liberals In The United States For 2002" article spread near and far across the web. I can just imagine the veins popping out on their foreheads as they pounded out these hilarious emails...

"You Repugnicans hate liberals because we call your bluff and refuse to allow your lies and false accusations to go unanswered. You also hate us because we have exposed your racism, imperialistic attitudes, etc. We also lay out for the people the sorry voting records of Repugs in their desire to give everything to the rich. You are kind of getting away with it at the moment, but the country will not remain dormant forever. "Be sure your sins will find you out." Rave and rant on! "Truth, crushed to earth, will rise again," that is, if the war-mongering doesn't bring about the final solution-Armageddon! No matter how evil you may be-lieve liberals to be, they can't equal the venom and vituperation in your diatribe naming the most offensive liberals, many of whom are great Americans, unequalled by any Repug!

MPM"

===

"You silly right-wing bible-thumping zealots really amuse me at times. Are you an angry white male, bitter and resentful that you weren't there in Nazi Germany to trample on cultures you sought to deem inferior to yours? Does the Bush administration screening advisory panel candidates on idealogue sound right to you? Or does it sound like the Taliban? Does the fact that Gore won the overvote (a fact barely noted by any networks) strike you as fair and just relations? Does an American tank intentionally trampling two Korean girls, than having the driver tried by the army sound like justice? If so, you are truly a blathering, hallucinating idiot. Good thing idiots like you are going the way of the dinosaur."

From the right, John Hawkins -- a "war-monngering", "imperialistic", "bible-thumping ", "Repugnican" dinosaur -- is signing off for a couple of hours =D -- I need to use that time to help put up some barbed wire in one of John Ashcroft's internment camps or to plan out our upcoming invasion of Europe -- I forget which.

Sen. Frist Unveils GOP Racial Segregation Plan: Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-TN, said today that the Republican Party really believes in racial segregation, and has a plan to implement it.

"First we're going to treat African Americans differently in college admissions," said Sen. Frist. "Then we're going to award government contracts to black-owned companies because of their race, not their abilities."

The Senator said the new plan also calls for training children of poor African Americans to depend on the government for money, food and health care.

"The more we classify them as weaker, less intelligent and incapable of competing in a capitalist society, the more effective our segregation plan will be," he said.

Sen. Frist said the GOP plan will encourage African American "pride" groups, and provide funds for teaching about "cultural" differences in the public schools. The government will help the Rev. Al Sharpton, Minister Louis Farakahn and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, to "get their racially-divisive message out."

The new Senate Majority Leader acknowledged that these ideas might sound new, and untested, "but the lofty goal of racial segregation compels us to try something. If the GOP continues to pursue the present course, history will judge us as the party that allowed Blacks to think they should compete on an equal footing with everyone else...that the American dream is not about race, but about opportunity, personal character and freedom. Is that really the kind of future we want for our grandchildren?"

Battle Of The Klansmen

Battle Of The Klansmen: Democrats have been beating Republicans over the head with loser/ex-KKK member David Duke for more than a decade now. That has always seemed more than a bit hypocritical to me not only because Duke never even won national office, but because the Democrats have been wholeheartedly supporting ex-KKK member Robert Byrd since the fifties. I put together a graphic that I think gets across the point I'm trying to make...

2002's Most Dubious News Stories of the Year

2002's Most Dubious News Stories of the Year By Alan Caruba: In a year when Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein made the bogeyman look like the Tooth Fairy, the 'environmaniacs' kept telling anyone who would listen the Earth was doomed and everything you ate, drank or breathed would kill you.

Here's my 12th annual review of "The Most Dubious News Stories of the Year" on behalf of the National Anxiety Center, a clearinghouse for information about scare campaigns that I founded in 1990. (Cont)
