What Is This ‘Well Regulated Militia’ Business, Anyway?
29 Apr 2013     3:06 pm      Warner Todd Huston

The Question:
The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, 1789: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
We talk about the “right of the people” to “bear arms” all the time. But we don’t often talk about the “well regulated militia” part that precedes it. So, what is it about? Is this militia still relevant to us today? Can we just ignore it? If unnecessary, does the …

Two New Polls: Americans Fear Our Government More Than Terrorists
  29 Apr 2013     2:39 pm      John Hawkins

“I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.” — James Madison
Since the war on terror began, the government has slowly but surely chipped away at our freedoms in the name of security. Whether you believe that was necessary to keep us safe or whether you believe that the government has gone too far, two recent polls in the wake of the Boston bombing seem to show that the …

Missouri House Passes Law That Nullifies Violations of the 2nd Amendment
  29 Apr 2013     1:25 pm      John Hawkins

Missouri’s House has passed new legislation by a 117-43 vote that says, “federal official(s) must not enforce a federal firearm law when the firearm is manufactured and remains in the state and that any new federal law banning or restricting ownership of a semi-automatic firearm is unenforceable.”

In other words, new federal gun legislation would be null and void in the state and any federal agent who attempts to enforce it could face jail time in the state.
The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Casey Guernsey (R-Bethany) said,
“The Second Amendment says we have the …

Schumer, McCain, Obama Not Giving Up on Gun Grab
  29 Apr 2013     1:12 pm      Dave Blount

Nice as it is that the Left’s gun grab stalled in the Senate, we can hardly afford to let our guard down. Freedom’s enemies are like rust, endlessly eating away until everything crumbles.

The Senate will try again to pass recently defeated gun control legislation, and will be aided by increasing activism from previously neutral voters, Sen. Chuck Schumer predicted [Thursday] at a press conference.
“I think we will bring the bill back before the end of the year… lots of Senators who thought it was safe to vote against it …

Nonpartisan Report: Obama Spends Twice As Much Time On Golfing & Vacations As He Does On Economy
  29 Apr 2013     11:53 am      John Hawkins

Who would have ever thought that the best thing about being President would be the non-stop golfing and vacations? Sure, you may be too broke to go on vacation because of Obama’s bad decisions, but that isn’t stopping him from vacationing on your dime. A nonpartisan group called the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) just did a report that examines Obama’s schedule. It compared all the time Obama spent in economic meetings over his first term with the time he spent golfing (4 hours per outing) and on vacation (6 hours …

Thug Attacks 70 Year Old Woman With a Nightstick — Her Husband Responds With a Gun
  29 Apr 2013     10:42 am      John Hawkins

Pittsburgh, PA — It was a bizarre situation. Andrew Moore, a man in his early thirties, walked into Armen’s House of Music on Saturday, looked around and left.

When he returned, he had a nightstick with him and he started beating the store owner’s seventy year old wife. Terrifyingly, the police have concluded that robbery WAS NOT the motive. In fact, they’re unsure why Moore was beating a woman old enough to be his grandmother with a club and the Armens say that they don’t know the man.
Sylvia Armen’s husband tried …

Ted Cruz: GOP Senators Privately Yelled at Me at the “Top of Their Lungs” Because I Fought Gun Control
  29 Apr 2013     9:48 am      John Hawkins

When Jim DeMint was in the Senate, conservatives would be publicly singing his praises while privately, his staff would tell me that Republicans in leadership were chewing him out behind closed doors for taking a principled stand that embarrassed them.
Now, Ted Cruz is apparently catching the same kind of flack for fighting against gun control. Here’s what he had to say about it.
I don’t know that there is an issue that has generated more heat internally in the Republican conference. We’ve had probably 5 or 6 lunches with a bunch …

Boston Bombing: Boxing Coach Says Don’t Blame Boxing
  29 Apr 2013     8:50 am      William Teach

One of the media narratives has been that, somehow, Tamerlan Tsarnaev went from well adjusted citizen to psychotic bomber motivated by, well, the media aren’t quite sure, could have something to do with some obscure religion, but, probably not, due to the failures of his boxing career. His coach says “nope!”
(Fox News) The Boston Marathon bomber’s former boxing coach says his one-time pupil may have been dispirited by boxing setbacks, but that’s no reason for the attacks that killed three people and injured more than 200.
The coach is clear: Don’t …

Washington Post Wonders If Charm Is Obama’s Last, Best Hope
  29 Apr 2013     8:01 am      William Teach

This occurs at the intersection of journalism and wishful thinking from those who most likely voted for Obama
After string of setbacks, more charm may be the last, best option for Obama

Writers Juliet Eilperin and Zachary A. Goldfarb picked the perfect picture to explain Obama and his charm, wouldn’t you think?
There was little time to mingle Tuesday night at the White House. Five minutes after greeting them, President Obama ushered 20 female senators into the State Dining Room and invited each to offer her thoughts on the issues of the day. …

Manchin’s New Push for Gun Control and the Dangers of Indulging Incremental Tyranny
  29 Apr 2013     7:00 am      Greg Campbell

Some guys just don’t learn…
Democratic Senator Joe Manchin was dealt a significant blow earlier this month as the Senate failed to pass the Toomey-Manchin Amendment to the doomed anti-gun rights legislation. The amendment served as a much-touted “compromise” to strengthen the background check process. It failed 54-46 as the amendment needed 60 votes to pass.
Now, Manchin is back and is claiming that he will be pushing for more gun control from a Senate that voted and rejected his proposal.
Manchin told “Fox News Sunday” that he’s going to rework the proposal …

This is Anna Maria Hoffman’s submission for the Ms. Conservativevideo contest, offered by the website Mr. Conservative. This vlog opens up with three generations of liberal “womyn,” who profess and reaffirm their support for abortion and our commander-in-chief. They are then faced with a dose of reason about Obama and Gosnell from Anna Maria regarding abortion.

Jihad On Our Tax Dollars? Screw That.
  29 Apr 2013     12:35 am      Doug Giles

Since the Boston terrorist attack on 4/15/13 we’ve been learning a whole lot about the two Muslim morons who blew up little children and severely injured hundreds of innocent onlookers and merry marathon runners.

Speaking of the Boston terrorist attack, how long do you think it’ll be before the Leftists and their co-belligerent compadres, the Muslims, start whining about building a mosque close to the finish line of the Boston Marathon? I’ll give it … eh … six months. One-year tops.
Back to getting to know the demonic Frick and Frack brothers.
Of the …

Creating Monsters: Terrorism, Welfare and “Celebrating Diversity”
  29 Apr 2013     12:28 am      Derek Hunter

To call the Tsarnaev family a “piece of work” is an insult to work.
But they are a piece of something, something the editors won’t let me write here (just think of what last night’s dinner is now). Not only were Tamerlan, the Boston terrorist currently burning in Hell, and Dzhokhar, the Boston terrorist soon to be burning in Hell, on welfare, but their whole family was on the government dole.

This isn’t as much a case against welfare as it is a case against immigration reform. In their time in this …

Beware the American Prom
  29 Apr 2013     12:05 am      Thomas Purcell

Proms sure have gotten expensive these days.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, high school kids spend nearly $4 billion annually for dresses, accessories, flowers, beauty products, limos and other prom-related items. The average couple spends upward of $1,000 for the one-time event.

That got me thinking about my own prom in 1980.
I didn’t know my date very well. She was in my photography class, pretty and, more important, available. We arranged a pre-prom meeting to get to know each other. We played tennis on a blistering-hot day, then headed back …

Benghazi Report Revives Troubling Questions
  29 Apr 2013     12:02 am      Michael Barone

“What difference, at this point, does it make?”

That was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s angry response to a question about the State Department’s account of the attack on the Benghazi consulate where Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were murdered on Sept. 11, 2012.
Her response was cheered by leftist commentators on MSNBC. Righteous indignation is so attractive.
But of course it makes a difference. Hillary Clinton is leading in polls for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination and general election. It’s always legitimate to examine the performance of a front-runner …

You Might Be A Democrat
  29 Apr 2013     12:01 am      Robert Cleveland

You might be a Democrat if you believe…

Fighting against government-subsidized contraceptives constitutes a “war on women,” but when Islamists stone a woman to death because she was raped, it is just “cultural differences.”
The Second Amendment only guarantees the people’s right to own a musket, yet viewing Internet pornography in a public library is protected by the First.
Teaching multiple origin theories in public schools is an abhorrent dilution of science curriculum, but in history class, class time should focus on the contributions of homosexuals and ethnic minorities.
Teenagers should be able to …
