Media Spinning Against New AZ Law for All It’s Worth
28 Apr 2010     1:05 pm      Warner Todd Huston

The media has been trying its hardest to spin this Arizona immigration law to its agenda for all its worth. It’s such a swarm of media agenda journalism that even liberal reporters that write about the travel industry are trying to demonize Arizona over it all. We can see this in the facile reporting by USA Today’s travel reporter, Barbara De Lollis. Hers titled, “Arizona immigration law backlash? Traveler says state ‘is off my travel list for sure,’” is a screamer for the wild assumptions and unproved and unprovable assertions …

Free Press? Not At This White House
  28 Apr 2010     11:57 am      Kathleen McKinley

I think Americans know now that the “transparency” that Obama promised during his campaign was simply a soundbite. In fact, Pres. Obama’s reluctance to be open with the White House Press reveals that Pres. Bush was actually the transparent one in comparison.
Day-to-day interaction with Obama is almost nonexistent, and he talks to the press corps far less often than Bill Clinton or even George W. Bush did. Clinton took questions nearly every weekday, on average. Obama barely does it once a week.
Obama hasn’t done a full press conference …

Why Do We Want Uninformed, Unmotivated People To Vote?
  28 Apr 2010     10:34 am      John Hawkins

In Ridgway Colorado they’re proposing mandatory voting:
Residents of this Old West- meets-New Age town can be fined if their fences are too high, they have too many chickens, their dogs aren’t on leashes or their weeds are out of control.
Tom Hennessy would like to add not voting to that list.
Hennessy, a popular Ridgway brewer and pub owner, is proposing that the mostly dirt-street town at the edge of the San Juan Mountains become a national model by enacting a mandatory-voting statute. Residents who don’t bother to vote, for no good …

Dems Can Run But They Can’t Hide
  28 Apr 2010     10:25 am      Donald Douglas

The number of polls indicating a November electoral blowout of historic earthquake-tsunami proportions continues to grow. At this morning’s ABC NEWS, “ABC News Poll: Ahead of 2010 Midterm Elections, Incumbent Support Its Lowest Since 1994: More Than Half Say Come November Elections, They’ll Look for Someone New“:

A third of registered voters are inclined to reelect their representatives in Congress, the fewest since the Republican Party rode voter discontent to control of the House and Senate 16 years ago, according to a new ABC News-Washington Post poll.
Nearly six in 10 said …

Statehood For Puerto Rico? Why?
  28 Apr 2010     9:52 am      John Hawkins

Tomorrow, they’re supposed to have a vote on statehood for Puerto Rico in the House.
Legislation that could set Puerto Rico on a path to statehood has divided Hispanic House lawmakers over whether it is the best way to determine the future of the territory’s relationship with the U.S.
Lawmakers are set to vote on the measure Thursday, which could lead to Puerto Ricans casting a ballot in a referendum about whether they want to change their century-plus territory status with the U.S.
According to the legislation, the island’s residents would first be …

Obama Tax Pledge Officially Expired 4/27/10
  28 Apr 2010     9:30 am      William Teach

Remember this?
“I can make a firm pledge,” he said in Dover, N.H., on Sept. 12. “Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”
He repeatedly vowed “you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime.”
He repeatedly repeated his $250k promise, as well. Ah, for the days when a man’s promise actually meant something.
In a contentious, and whiny, shot to the …

12 Of The Worst Signs From The Pro-Illegal Immigration Protests
  28 Apr 2010     9:26 am      John Hawkins

We’ve had a lot of attention focused on the signs of Tea Partiers lately, so, with illegal immigration back in the news, I thought it might be a good time to show you some of  the  signs that have been waved around at pro-illegal immigration protests in this country.
When you hear the utterly silly and hysterical outcry over the new Arizona immigration law and the demands for a path to citizenship for illegals, understand that the sentiments you see on these signs are undergirding the reaction.

Obama Billboard: Embarrassed Yet? (Pic)
  28 Apr 2010     8:16 am      John Hawkins

There is yet another anti-Obama billboard out there and I really like this one. I wouldn’t mind seeing billboards like this spread across the country:

Hat tip to Gateway Pundit for the billboard.

Nanny County Bans Toys In Happy Meals
  28 Apr 2010     7:33 am      William Teach

Essentially, they have taken the happy out of Happy Meals, and parents out of parenting
No toy for you, Junior.
Not if you live in unincorporated Santa Clara County, where the Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to ban restaurants from giving away toys with children’s meals that exceed set levels of calories, fat, salt and sugar.
Miguel Marquez, acting county counsel, states that this is well within their Eric Cartman authoriti, and Chicago is considering implementing the same law. Perhaps they can use the National Guard to enforce it.
The ordinance, …

Poll: The Arizona Immigration Law
  28 Apr 2010     7:10 am      John Hawkins

Update #1: Granted, this bill isn’t as popular in Arizona as it is in the early voting on RWN, but it is REALLY popular:
Last week, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed an immigration law that launched a national debate. It has also at least temporarily helped her own chances of remaining Arizona’s governor.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows that 56% now approve of the way Brewer is performing her role as governor. Two weeks ago, just 40% offered their approval.
The new figure includes 22% …

Dude Who Threatened South Park Lives In Mom’s Basement
  27 Apr 2010     3:40 pm      Melissa Clouthier

No, I am not making that up. He really does. Go read for yourself. Bookworm has more about this new, abhorrent precedent we’ve set up in America:
There are a couple of points I want to make about this whole embarrassing debacle — embarrassing for Comedy Central, which shows that it’s offensive only when it’s safe; and a debacle, because it’s one more nail in the coffin of the free speech that has always been an integral part of America’s political and social culture.
My first point riffs off something David Hazony …

Advice To Men From Hollywood Hottie Christina Hendricks
  27 Apr 2010     3:20 pm      Melissa Clouthier

This little ditty has been in my browser for a week. Finally getting around to sharing it. Mostly, I just want your thoughts.
Christina Hendricks (who is she? I have no idea) has some advice for the menfolk via Ryan Seacrest (American Idol host–see, I do pay attention to some pop culture!). My thoughts next to the points:
- We love your body. If we’re in love with you, we love your body. Your potbelly, everything. [I don't know about this, actually.]
- Speaking of your body, you don’t understand the power of …

So That’s How the “Green Economy” Works
  27 Apr 2010     2:49 pm      Dave Blount

Among the most fundamental laws of the universe is that the more government you have, the more corruption you will have. When human interaction is based on coercion instead of voluntary contracts, the only way to get anything done is to grease the palms of scuttling bureaucratic overlords, who pursue their positions because it’s the most effective means to acquire wealth. That’s why the first word of this Pajamas Media report must be a typo:
Surprising documents made available to this author reveal that Assistant Secretary of Energy Cathy Zoi has …

Recession Will Soon Hit Home for Dems
  27 Apr 2010     2:43 pm      Dave Blount

There is some justice in the world. The economic slump is going to be putting a few more people out of work in November — namely the Democrats who caused it by forcing banks to make race-based loans and resisting Republican attempts to rein in Fanny & Freddy until the entire housing market had collapsed.
Notch one more victim of the recession: With crucial midterm elections nearing, Democrats have lost the advantage they’ve held for years as the party the public trusts to steer the economy.
The timing could be …

Robocop Director: Robocop Was an ‘American Jesus’ Because he Kills People
27 Apr 2010     1:16 pm      Warner Todd Huston

Andrew Breitbart appeared at an awards ceremony in Chicago on Friday the 16th and one of his remarks was that Hollywood is “40 years into the left injecting bad into America.” To counter the bad, Breitbart urged us all to remind each other what is good in our great nation. As an illustration of Breitbart’s warning I give you Paul Verhoeven, the director of the 1987 film Robocop.
Verhoeven recently spoke to MTVs Josh Horowitz about the underlying symbolism of Robocop and his main conception was that the Robocop character was …

Behavioral Science, Behavioral Economics, Social Science, Psychology… How are these ‘Science’? Why Is Obama Using them to Ruin This Nation?
27 Apr 2010     1:15 pm      Warner Todd Huston

OK, let me get this straight. The bulk of the “research” that the so-called sciences mentioned in the headline above are done in university labs. There they conduct these “experiments” mostly, not exclusively, but mostly, on grad students and other students willing to go to the lab and take surveys, answer questions, and participate in the “experiments,” often for money.
The “results” of these hackneyed “experiments” are then used as “proof” of an often politically motivated concept, like “why are conservatives filled with fear,” or “why are the religious so hateful …

Also, I do a podcast once a week with Andrew Malcolm of the L.A. Times Top of the Ticket blog. Andrew is a former communications guy for Laura Bush. In the last episode, we talked about Goldman-Sachs and Blago going after President Obama.

I Want To Fire All Government Workers
27 Apr 2010     12:38 pm      Warner Todd Huston

We conservatives are fond of wanting to oust everyone in office and for wanting to “vote the scoundrels out.” But, I’d like to add one more level to the throw-them-out-of-government arena. Let’s fire every government worker from the smallest village receptionist or sewer worker to the staffers of the highest Senator and every menial clerk and recalcitrant paper shuffler in between. O.K., this is a little bombast, but only a little.
It’s not just pique at the famous laziness of government workers I indulge here and it’s not just the fact …

The Media and Conservative Family Members
  27 Apr 2010     11:28 am      Kathleen McKinley

I am continuing to post on parts of Karl Rove’s book, “Courage and Consequence.” As I have said before, politics is a nasty business. Both sides are guilty. But what struck me about recent years is how the liberal media went after regular people, and not the politicians. From Sarah Palin’s children, to Joe The Plumber, and finally to Karl Rove’s family. These people were not running for office. They were not politicians. They didn’t deserve what the liberal media and the leftwing blogosphere did to them. It was unprecendented …
